Common Questions and Answers about Glucose levels throughout the day

glucose

Avatar n tn Very painful and hard to focus with all the pain. My 3 fasting glucose test have been 94, 109 and 95 over the past 18 months. So, not real high. My PCP is monitoring my glucose every 6 months. Just tested my tsh few months ago and the tsh was high 5.025 and T4 Free was in normal range. The OB doctor is the one who did the thyroid test so I haven't gotten any treatment for it Could the thyroid if hypo cause me this much pain or no?
Avatar n tn Keep a watchful eye on your glucose levels throughout the day. Go to ER if you feel uneasy. Hope "things get back to normal.
Avatar f tn However, when cutting back the dose (slowly) at times the b/g goes up high then quite LOW again throughout the day, but with the need to urinate quite often (then a slight loss of weight, I guess from all the urinating of calories). If it's low all day (they know this from testing the b/g throughout the day) then why would one have to urinate a lot though? She feels it is a vicious cycle that keeps repeating itself.
Avatar n tn Definitely do the 3h glucose test. The thing about the 1h test is your system is bombarded with an abnormally large amount of sugar in a short time and the blood test will measure your response to it - this is quite different from measuring your levels throughout the day which may be more "normal" because your sugar intake could have been at a relatively low level. In essence, testing your levels throughout the day is not necessarily a good indicator of whether you have GD or not.
Avatar f tn Your morning glucose levels indicate type 2 diabetes. Try not to eat starchy foods or foods loaded with carbohydrates at night. They turn into sugar after digestion. And no late snacking. The "throughout the day" has no meaning unless they were 2-3 hours after a meal. The sometimes of "192, 263" are high and entering the dangerously high zone. The times to test are mornings before breakfast, before each lunch and dinner meals and 2-3 hours after each meal.
Avatar f tn I know that GD is common and your glucose levels can and will fluctuate throughout the day. My father-in-law is diabetic and he has to test his blood before every meal and eat according to the results.
Avatar f tn -I was losing my concentration/focus throughout the day, and my forearms started to tingle for no apparent reason when i tried to stretch them out. -I do not drink, nor smoke, and generally eat healthier then most people.
Avatar f tn Since they diagnosed you with GD start eating more veggies and fruits and eat five small meals throughout the day to keep your sugar levels where they need to be. The only thing that happens to the babies when mons have GD is that they get to weight a little bit more than an average baby at the time of birth.
Avatar n tn m a diet controlled type 2; no medication. I test like a manic. I test at the same times throughout the day like a machine and graph the results using my smart phone. I also eat like a machine as well consuming the same old stuff every day of the week. I don't mind. It works for me. But this borderline OCD gives me reliable data to base other observations on.

A fasting test tests your glucose levels at the time of the test, not what is was 3 hours prior, the day or the week before. 2. TSH - Thyroid test to check for hormone disorder that may affect glucose levels. 3.
1689038 tn?1354739164 You are right, your glucose levels change throughout the day, as you take in/use food. Eating will make your sugar level rise, exercise will usually cause it lower. Prediabetes is like insulin resistance; your body makes insulin, but doesn't use it properly. You should try to eat foods that are low glycemic, in other words they don't make your blood sugar spike; they break down slower, so keep your blood sugar at steady levels.
Avatar f tn I bought a glucose meter to check my levels throughout the day to see what was going on, thinking I might have some insulin resistance going on. My levels bounce all over the scale (from as low as 60 to as high as 190+). Most of my fasting glucose levels run between 100-120. After I had done this for about a month, I presented it to my doctor's nurse practitioner, who agreed to send me for a glucose tolerance test. Results came back normal, with hemoglobin A1C at 5.6 (high normal).
Avatar n tn I am a type 2 diabetic and 48yrs old. One way of controlling the diet is to have a number of light meals throughout the day. For example eat small quantity of food every 2 hours. This is one way to blunt the increase in glucose levels. Another means of keeping sugar level in control is to powder methi seeds and have 1 spoon early in the morning before breakfast. Try out this and give me a feedback. By this i have been able to control my sugar levels.
Avatar n tn ve been losing weight without trying my fasting blood glucose is 125-130 random throughout the day is 140 so I had an appointment with the diabetic clinic today I am on 80mg. Zocor because I had high cholestrol the doctor said today that my bad cholestrol is excellent but my good cholestrol is low I don't know how low she put in a request that needs to be approved for 20mg.
Avatar n tn Many small meals throughout the day, instead three large portions, may help balance your glucose levels. Try this routine for a couple of days and try to eat at the same times each day. Test Preprandial and 2-4 hours Postprandial. If your glucose continues to bounce down/up you should refer to your doctor for testing asap.
468796 tn?1220029445 If insulin in the blood remains high, eventually the cells will wear out and will not accept the insulin at all. At that point, your blood glucose levels start to rise and you on your way to Type 2 diabetes. My doctor put me on Metformin (1000 mg per day) and I changed my diet and started excercising more and lost 15 lbs. Within two months my insulin was down to 17. Also, having high insulin in your body encourages your body to store fat.
Avatar f tn How does the A1C test work, does it average out your blood sugar throughout the day or as soon as it peaks to high levels that is what the A1C test shows? I am so mixed up regarding these tests.
Avatar n tn I feel I am eating the most ever (they check my weight periodically and I guess I lost 3-4 pounds in a month). I threw up one day when I felt particularly bad. My hand will soemtimes shake throughout the day, but its only my right hand not my left. Two days before I had my period I was urinating probably every 30 minutes to an hour. The urine was light and clear.
Avatar f tn d talk to your doctor that is low do you get shaky during the day? That is a sign that you do not have enough sugar in your body maybe eat a banana or some fruits check again....
Avatar f tn If I want to do the “glucose tolerance test” again to confirm or discard the possibility of having diabetes, at what time should I take the metformin the day before the test or I shouldn´t take metformin at all the day before? How long does metformin stay in your body??
Avatar n tn For t2 diabetics, the best remedy to severe skin itch is to properly control and manage their glucose levels. Is the itching throughout the day or during sleep? If during sleep hours, he needs to check his glucose levels before bedtime and adjust his insulin – if he is on insulin – accordingly. If he is not on insulin, a visit to his doctor is in order. With medications and lotions, there are no solutions or cures, only temporary relief.
Avatar f tn I falied both my 1 and 3 hour test :( both times my glucose levels were high. So I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Are u scheduled for the 3 hour one?
Avatar n tn I randomly check my fasting glucose levels and about 95% of the time, they are routinely in the 105-120 range, but on the day I went to the lab for the test, it was only 95, so my pcp said there was nothing wrong with me and refused to even LOOK at the record I had been keeping. If checking your blood sugar randomly throughout the day - make sure you wait 2 hrs after eating.......
Avatar n tn I maintain tight control, and I know that this is hard (and sometimes even unsafe) to do with a child whose activity levels may vary greatly from day to day. But the key to keeping your child healthy is to try to keep those glucose levels as normal as possible without risking severe hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn Were you fasting before you went in? I got my test done and my results read 131. They explained to me abnormal or positive for gestational diabetes was 140 or above.
Avatar n tn s important and should be your everyday guideline - Eat well balanced meals in the correct amounts, along with moderate exercise (like walking) and weight control, you can keep your blood glucose level as close to normal (non-diabetes level) as possible. Small meals throughout the day are better than three huge meals. Your body will better handle the smaller amounts. Foods: Stay away from foods containing sugar and bad carbs. Google bad carbs for a list no-no foods.
Avatar n tn I can feel it when my blood sugar levels are dropping quickly even if they have not reached hypoglycemic levels, and I have heard other diabetic people say the same thing. If your glucose levels rise above the norm a lot during the day, your brain is reacting by asking your pancreas to secrete more insulin in order to lower those levels. When this happens, your glucose then drops either back to normal, or in some people, a little lower than normal.
