Avatar f tn The virus is shed in the saliva. For your friend to have gotten rabies from a scratch the dog would first have to be ill and showing signs of the actual sickness, he would have had to have had licked his paw immediately before scratching your friend, thereby introducing the saliva from the paw into the wound caused by the scratch. The animal would only be shedding the virus if he was actually showing symptoms of being rabid.
798555 tn?1292787551 History: I posted here in the past, as my fasting glucose was between 100-110 for almost 2 years, per clinic testing. Ac1 was OK but showed a pattern of increasing to the upper part of the acceptable range. So I took action when Drs did not seem to be interested in being pro active. That is the problem with western medicine....wait till its too late. The last few clinic tests showed fasting glucose in the 90's, and my new glucose meter just showed 93 this morning, looking much better.
Avatar n tn infection is more of a risk for diabetics than for other people. If her glucose levels are under good control, she has a better chance of healing without any problems. But if glucose levels are kept high, infection is a danger. So we can't say if she will get sick. It really depends on how well her glucose levels are managed and how healthy she is at the time of surgery.
Avatar m tn I have hypothyroidism; I take 37.5 mcg of Levothyroxine and my TSH is now at 2.97. For years I have struggled with sudden pangs of hunger resulting in sweating, confusion, migraines, etc. I regularly wake up in the middle of the night shaking with hunger. Over the years I've significantly reduced carbs in my diet in response. My diet consists almost entirely of vegetables, beans, fruits, nuts, cheese, eggs, with a slice of high-fiber bread on certain days.
Avatar n tn Elevated glucose levels cause symptoms such as you describe. They are ruling out an insulin utilization syndrome. Generally oral glucose tolerance tests are not performed. these days. Instead a blood test known as an HbA1C is performed, which establishes the glucose levels over the previous three months. Not that there is anything wrong with taking the glucose tolerance test.
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism is associated with higher triglycerides and higher glucose in addition to higher cholesterol levels. All of these can be risk factors for heart disease. Proper treatment with thyroid med(s) can bring these levels (closer) to normal. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn I am really trying to better understand blood glucose levels as they relate to a prognosis of diabetes, especially in relation to your diet and quantity of food.
Avatar m tn No risk at all saliva is not infectious and this has been proven time and time again in scientific studies. You do not need to worry about this.
Avatar n tn We have described best glucose levels in children as they grow and develop: Five and younger: Normal blood sugar targets are 100 to 200mg/dl. Age 5 to 11: Normal blood sugar targets are 70 to 150mg/dl. Fasting blood sugars should be nearer to 70mg/dL. Blood sugar after meals and before bedtime should be near 150mg/dL. Age 12 and older A healthy glucose level of age 12 and elder should be near 70mg/dl when fasting and 150mg/dl after meals.
Avatar n tn have you tested your glucose levels when these symptoms hit you? You may find that your glucose levels have dropped too low, for these are some of the symptoms of low blood sugar. Many people do mention tingling in hands when glucose levels drop too low. I would heartily recommend that the next time this happens, you do an immediate glucose test, and then perhaps test again about 45 minutes later.
Avatar m tn Some people and animals suffer allergic reactions to flea saliva resulting in rashes. Flea bites generally result in the formation of a slightly-raised swollen itching spot with a single puncture point at the center. The bites often appear in clusters or lines of two bites, and can remain itchy and inflamed for up to several weeks afterwards. Fleas can also lead to hair loss as a result of frequent scratching and biting by the animal, and can cause anemia in extreme cases..
Avatar n tn Theoretically it could but it is unlikely unless the child has been in contact with a rabid animal, develops it then bites another kid. But that doesn't mean human bites aren't dangerous even if rabies is less likely. Other illness can be transmitted like hepatitis, HIV, and a variety of other things. This is why most preschools and elementary schools require children to get vaccinations. Though the illnesses can be spread by other means than bites.
Avatar n tn As other causes such as stress ,exercises and a recent meal intake may cause increase levels of glucose in the urine. This may be true in isolated cases. An initial work up may be necessary just to check blood glucose levels. Your BUN and Creatinine levels may also be checked to get a baseline evaluation of renal function.
1093971 tn?1257833640 Some reports have taking glucosamine to relieve arthritis may cause a rise in blood sugar levels. They reasoned glucosamine is ten times as powerful as regular glucose thus causing insulin resistance. Insulin resistance can increase fasting blood sugar levels and exacerbate glucose tolerance. Others reported taking glucosamine may not affect blood glucose levels directly, but some evidence from both animal and human studies suggested that it may promote insulin resistance over time.
Avatar m tn Low glucose levels are the most likely etiology. I know you say you "do not have diabetes", however I would like you to obtain a glucose meter, and take a blood stick. The shakiness and dizziness are hallmarks of low blood glucose levels..
Avatar f tn I have had blood work done for physicals, etc. and my glucose levels, etc. come back normal. Along with the sugar crash feeling I experienced a foggy almost "drunk" feeling, low concentration/hard time getting through daily tasks, extreme fatigue, and vision problems (blurry vision/hard time focusing). I tried eating food to bring my blood sugar up, but it didn't seem to help. I dealt with these symptoms for about 7-8 days.
Avatar n tn I personally find that knowing how all of these outside factors affect my body is absolutely necessary in order to be able to manage the glucose levels and know when to increase or when to decrease the basal Lantus dose. You might want to ask your doctor about how the factors mentioned above affect glucose levels. You might also want to read about them, perhaps by doing a Google search on any of those words combined with the words "affect of ___ on diabetes". Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn 2% is equivalent to 131 mg/dl daily glucose average. Sometime during the day your levels are not OK, or your meter is need of calibration and/or test strips are not within their expiration period. "I snack late and may eat nuts, yougurt, or sugar free coffee." During sleeping hours your liver and body fat releases stored glucose in expectation for the energy you need upon wakening. Bad snacks add to the stored glucose which in turn gets dumped. Make sense?
Avatar m tn I have no history of medical illness, I had lots of blood work done in September 2013 including a Full Blood Count, IgA, Lipids Fasting, Glucose Fasting, Bone Profile, Thyroid Function, Anti TTG and Glucose Fasting. I had high blood sugar levels of 7.9mmo/l and 6.7mmo/l. Can anyone possibly comprehend what could be wrong with me? I also suffer from anxiety and depression currently but I think this has been brought on by not knowing what is causing my daily episodes of retching.
Avatar f tn Try have a protein snack before bed to hold your glucose levels through the night. Might be worth checking your glucose levels as well.
Avatar n tn s office called and wanted me to repeat the 2 hr GTT (glucose fasting for 12 hours then checking levels over 2 hours) as well as bloodwork to recheck my DHEA levels. I do not have the results back yet on those tests. Thanks again for the input!
Avatar m tn Maybe unless you have a cold sore, and your friend has some serious viruses in him/her, like possibly a rabies infection. But human to human transmission of it is close to nil. The only documented case was from organ transplantation.
Avatar m tn Human saliva contact with my fresh open bleeding wound.
