Avatar n tn yes seizures in older dogs can occur for many reasons.
Avatar f tn Learning How to Switch Diabetic Pets from Vetsulin to DNA Based Insulin is quite simple. Regulating your diabetic pet at home and making your dogs own Urine Glucose Curve is also helpful. Switching pets over from Vetsulin to DNA based insulin is not hard and daily regulation using your pets urine along with a product, available at Walgreens, called Diastix, will help you regulate your diabetic pet at home as quickly as possible.
Avatar f tn I speak from experience, being diabetic myself. Cataract is very common in diabetic human and dogs, the difference being that humans tend to be more careful in balancing their glucose levels. By preventing hypoglycemic lows or hyperglycemia highs, you can prevent cataract developing, but clearly this is very tricky with a dog. The possibility is that Joey has been 'becoming diabetic' for months or even years, without you or your vet necessarily being aware of it.
Avatar m tn Meaning your glucose levels? What about testing at home? What are your prandial [b4 meal] and postprandial [after meal] test results? The human body is constantly changing. What you ate last month, six months ago, or last year that didn't effect your glucose level may today. In your case, you need to test and test often to rule out any foods and liquids contributing to your problem.
Avatar n tn I am really trying to better understand blood glucose levels as they relate to a prognosis of diabetes, especially in relation to your diet and quantity of food.
Avatar n tn I think what you are noticing is that your body is just working better with glucose levels probably normalized while you were in the hospital, and it may be taking less insulin to cause glucose levels to change than when your glucose was astronomically high.
Avatar n tn They starting gettin more sever ( extream dry moth, mental foginess, shaking, vomiting) so I went to the Dr. They tested my fasting glucose levels in the office (finger *****) and it was 227. I was immedicately sent to a lab for blood work. My gloucose level came back at 80. That was w/in half an hour. A week later I returned to the Dr. office they said I was "normal". I insisted on another test. They did another in office test (fasting again) and I came back at 180.
Avatar n tn Perhaps you should see your doctor and have these tests run just to be on the safe side and to have some basic info about your glucose levels entered into your medical records in case things change at a later date.
Avatar n tn We have described best glucose levels in children as they grow and develop: Five and younger: Normal blood sugar targets are 100 to 200mg/dl. Age 5 to 11: Normal blood sugar targets are 70 to 150mg/dl. Fasting blood sugars should be nearer to 70mg/dL. Blood sugar after meals and before bedtime should be near 150mg/dL. Age 12 and older A healthy glucose level of age 12 and elder should be near 70mg/dl when fasting and 150mg/dl after meals.
Avatar n tn s recovery operations work better if a slight hemmorhage does happen in the eye and that good glucose levels can improve nerve damage in people with neuropathy. We also know that many of us who have lived for many years under as tight control as possible do not suffer from complications. The recent studies linking tight control to lack of complications seem to prove that this is a wise thing to do.
Avatar f tn Doing any form of exercise, will help to use up the glucose in your system. After all, it is a source of energy. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn I am not quite sure what your question is about concerning the alcohol. Are you asking which to drink first, or asking what the effects might be? The answer is that alcohol lowers the liver's ability to release emergency sugars that all people store in their livers in case they haven't eaten in a long time and glucose levels drop (which can happen to non-diabetics as well as to diabetics, but which can be life-threatening to the type 1 diabetic).
Avatar n tn The doctor dealing with my glucose levels wants me to go on insulin but all the other doctors/nurses are telling me I don't need it. All my sugar levels are good except once in a whileI will get 5.3 for my fasting morning sugar. Apparently they are supposed to be 5.2 and lower. My dad is a doctor and is telling me not to take it, my mom had gestational diabeties but way worse then me and wasn't even put on insulin but as of right now I don't even have any high numbers.
Avatar f tn The doctor said I had glucose in my urine. She is going to retest me again in 2 weeks. I went in 2 weeks ago for the sugar test and passed with a 131 cutoff is 135. So my question is has this happened to anyone else? Does this mean I am going to develop gestational diabetes?? I am not over weight but I do have a bad ice cream habit...been known to eat a pint of ben and jerrys a nite!!! Any input would be appericated..thanxs!!
Avatar f tn In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar n tn The fact that you are currently able to keep your glucose levels in the normal range will protect you and your baby. It isn't the diagnosis of diabetes that causes any development problems or that grows large babies, but it is diabetes that is not WELL-CONTROLLED. There is a big difference between the two! Being diabetic does not automatically make your baby large. Having high glucose levels does that.
8734227 tn?1405101066 I just received a message from my dr office saying my levels were high in my one hour glucose test.. I tried to call them back as soon as I got out of work but the office is closed till tomorrow. . I know that I'm going to schedule a 3hour test.. my question is what do I do until I get my next test? What food should I stay away from? What foods would be best to eat? This is my first pregnancy and I don't want to harm my baby!! Any advice will be greatly appreciated! !!
Avatar n tn infection is more of a risk for diabetics than for other people. If her glucose levels are under good control, she has a better chance of healing without any problems. But if glucose levels are kept high, infection is a danger. So we can't say if she will get sick. It really depends on how well her glucose levels are managed and how healthy she is at the time of surgery.
Avatar n tn Being a diabetic person should not have any effect on your ability to get pregnant, but it is very important to have those glucose levels under extremely good control while pregnant. Most doctors seem to nowadays want their patients to have extremely good a1c test numbers even before getting pregnant. And to keep those numbers great during the entire pregnancy.
Avatar f tn With a strict diet, physical exercise is beneficial and highly advised to keep the sugar levels in check. If the sugar levels get back in control with these measures, you would not require seeing a doctor, other than getting HbA1c’s and follow ups for retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy, done once in a while. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn The complications are caused by long periods of elevated glucose readings that damage small blood vessels and/or nerves, and it IS possible for a person who is developing diabetes to live with elevated glucose levels that are not high enough to be critical (i.e., to put them in a diabetic coma), but that ARE elevated enough to cause damage to the body. If I were you, I would definitely have glucose levels checked out.
Avatar n tn Exercises hypoglycemia in non-diabetic subjects by Jf. Burn,M. Dumortier, C.Fedoa, J Mercer. Insulin tranports glucose to the muscle cells for utilization. You can exercise all you want but if insulin is not present in the recipe then the whole thing is an exercise in futility. The medical community advises physical activity such as walking, mowing the lawn, dancing, gardening, etc which is better than just sitting in front of the television and becoming fat.
Avatar m tn Hi Sally, my fasting glucose readings have bounced around in the pre-diabetic range for the past several years, with the highest being 126, I think. I've had several A1c tests, with results ranging from 5.5 to 5.9. My doctors (both primary and endocrinologist) have said these results are okay and don't require treatment of any kind. I've tried controlling glucose levels with diet and exercise - sometimes it works, sometimes not.
