Common Questions and Answers about Glucose levels in a dog

glucose

Avatar n tn Stress is the common denominator in both HBP and blood glucose higher readings, in any possible connection to your allergy. Hard to establish though. As Dr. Rajput mentioned your glucose levels are acceptable, please follow the basic rules to avoid diabetes in your life. 1. Follow a healthy and nutrient dense diet, avoiding sugar at all costs, and consuming reasonable amount of complex- whole grain based- carbs.
Avatar n tn I would also suggeat that you read about the food a dog should have. Aviod giving the dog treats that increase his sugar in the blood, you might feed several times a day in small amouts? I have not dealt with this condition, just wanted to give you some thoughts to look into.
Avatar n tn I took my daughter in for a physical last week and the dr. told me her glucose level in her urine was 3+ and blood stick was 288. He was VERY concerned and told me to take her in to her dr. the next morning. Her regular dr. told her fasting glucose was 0 and blood stick was 127. She told me the dr.'s machines were wrong the night before (it was an Urgent Care Center) and she's fine ... asked me to bring her back in a year.
Avatar n tn have you tested your glucose levels when these symptoms hit you? You may find that your glucose levels have dropped too low, for these are some of the symptoms of low blood sugar. Many people do mention tingling in hands when glucose levels drop too low. I would heartily recommend that the next time this happens, you do an immediate glucose test, and then perhaps test again about 45 minutes later.
6832940 tn?1389242354 I failed my 3 hr glucose and today I learned I have to start testing 6 times a day and I have no idea what I'm doing or what my levels should be :/ all these dang drs are gone for Thanksgiving and it just feels like I'm not going to be able to enjoy my last 3 months of pregnancy. I get sad and frustrated just thinking about it. I don't really know what to eat or how much carbs and sugar I can but still stay in a good level.
Avatar n tn As other causes such as stress ,exercises and a recent meal intake may cause increase levels of glucose in the urine. This may be true in isolated cases. An initial work up may be necessary just to check blood glucose levels. Your BUN and Creatinine levels may also be checked to get a baseline evaluation of renal function.
Avatar n tn In my 36 years with diabetes, I have noticed that sometimes I can FEEL the drop in glucose before my glucose levels get below normal. The symptoms that you describe can happen even when the actual number is normal at the time. In my case, when this happens it ALWAYS means that my glucose is on the way down towards hypoglycemia even if when i test it, my glucose is normal. If I test again in a half hour (and do not eat or drink any carbohydrates), the glucose will be low.
Avatar m tn Low glucose levels are the most likely etiology. I know you say you "do not have diabetes", however I would like you to obtain a glucose meter, and take a blood stick. The shakiness and dizziness are hallmarks of low blood glucose levels..

1994268 tn?1329466212 Hi my dog is a fox terrier cross and is white in colour. He has growths on his body that seem to be growing ( started out looking like warts) - could this be an indication of cancer.
Avatar f tn Cataract is very common in diabetic human and dogs, the difference being that humans tend to be more careful in balancing their glucose levels. By preventing hypoglycemic lows or hyperglycemia highs, you can prevent cataract developing, but clearly this is very tricky with a dog. The possibility is that Joey has been 'becoming diabetic' for months or even years, without you or your vet necessarily being aware of it.

Avatar n tn Hi, I have had type2 diabetes for 6 years now, I am having the exact same problems as your`s at the moment, but I was on medication 1000gm Diaformin twice daily, but had to cease medication because my glucose levels were dropping like yours, I am eating constantly to keep myself from having hypos, I have had CT scans of Liver and Pancreas, no results yet, I am having blood tests tomorrow, and will see my Physician next week, so hopefully I will know what the cause might be.
Avatar n tn I did a fingerstick glucose on my son 4hrs after he had lunch, it was 176. Should I be worried?
Avatar n tn It might be a good idea to have your dog examined by a veterinary neurologist. The neurologist could ascertain whether your dog's problem is due to diabetic neuropathy or disk disease, or a demyelinating condition of the nerve cells, and other causes. If disk disease is the problem, Acupuncture, steroids and muscle relaxers have been shown to be as helpful as spinal surgery, and could be very helpful for your dog. Acupuncture can also be very helpful for diabetic neuropathy.
Avatar n tn i had no memory of what was going on and asked where i was, assuming i had fainted in a field or something. she gave me a glucose tablet and i felt better, so (being a medic myself) i asked what my hands a face were doing, and she said they were both scrunched up and i had been breathing shallowly and in gasps. Tom took my pulse and it was elevated. I've never had a seizure, and am very worried. obviously i'm going to see my doc tomorrow, but i'd just like to know what to expect.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had a dog improve after an initial decline and then resurgence in Creatine? (He was tested after a meal.) 2. Is there anything I should ask my vet to test for that could be causing the acute episode? 3. Any treatment tips? Thank you everyone.
Avatar m tn I had a full blood check up last week and my glucose levels came back as high for a morning reading at 9.2. I had some more tests today including a fasting test and a hba something or other. My question is soe this now mean i have diabetes. I am very much a night person regularly up til 4 in the morning and eating and drinking before i go to bed. I am white, not over weight and have no family history.
1461994 tn?1285897132 You don't seem in any danger at 90 glucose. Did you mention already if you were fasting each time you too the test. I assume you realize that you should be, but who knows. It can't hurt to ask.
Avatar n tn I would recommend that you stick with the diet, but that you become very attuned to when you need a small snack to bring up glucose levels until your body stops over-producing insulin. A VERY SMALL amount of juice (absolutely no more than 1/2 cup) will bring your glucose levels back up within a few minutes, and then some protein such as nuts will keep you stable.
8734227 tn?1405101066 I just received a message from my dr office saying my levels were high in my one hour glucose test.. I tried to call them back as soon as I got out of work but the office is closed till tomorrow. . I know that I'm going to schedule a 3hour test.. my question is what do I do until I get my next test? What food should I stay away from? What foods would be best to eat? This is my first pregnancy and I don't want to harm my baby!! Any advice will be greatly appreciated! !!
Avatar n tn She was diagnosed with diabetes by a doctor in another state. She was taken off of diabetes medication due to concerns of kidney damage. Her nephrologist said her kidneys were fine a month or two ago. He requested blood work prior to her followup appointment. Her glucose levels were at 480. He thought it was strange that her primary care physician wasn't doing anything to control her glucose levels. He told her to contact her doctor immediately in regards to high blood glucose.
Avatar m tn If you are determined to be pre-diabetic or to have type 2 diabetes then you can begin to determine a plan to manage your blood sugars. Type 2 diabetes is a manageable condition, but if you ignore it the consequences are quite serious. Managing type 2 diabetes is done with carb reduction, weight loss if needed, exercise and oral meds if your doctor determines this is needed.
