1209036 tn?1299178657 t like soda and it was way too sweet for me, but I woThe oral glucose tolerance test is used to screen for gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop in some women late in pregnancy (usually after the 24th week). Women who develop gestational diabetes do not have diabetes before becoming pregnant. The oral glucose tolerance test involves quickly drinking a sweetened liquid (called Glucola), which contains 50 g of glucose.
Avatar f tn But, if it turns out you do have GD, It is early enough to intervene and get you on the proper meds, meaning your baby will be at less risk for complcations as youre dealing with it now. Most women have their first glucose test between 24 and 28 weeks. I hope all works out for you hun!
Avatar f tn Who has taken the glucose diabetes test? How did it go? I'm kinda nervous what if I do come out positive for it . Did your pregnancy still continue normal and did ur baby have any complications ?
Avatar n tn Hi, certainly it is possible to have diabetes (more likely after gestational diabetes). You probably should be checked for type 1 diabetes, which can also occur as an adult. This will involve antibody testing as well as checking blood insulin levels. Although your sugar levels are not terribly high, they do seem higher than normal. Hba1c of 5.2 is not high, and still within high normal range.
Avatar n tn Since you have had a history of gestational diabetes, it probably is something to watch. Your body may have responded to the glucose tolerance test with more insulin than you needed, but I am not a doctor, so I can't say for sure it was a response to the test. The fact that your levels are fine is a good sign that you may get through this pregnancy without the gestational diabetes. But even so you may want to do an occasional blood test to make sure.
Avatar n tn I had my glucose test around 28 weeks, so you might not be far enough into your pregnancy. And as the previous poster said, it is to establish if you have gestational diabetes.
Avatar f tn First of all, the history doesn't guarantee that it will show gd. I have a super strong history and a lot of other factors that raise my chance. I passed & you can too. :) (always hope for the best) but, if you fail this first test, you move to a 3 hour test. I know a lot of women who bombed the 1 hour but aced the 3 hour test.
Avatar f tn I had my glucose test and I have gestational debetes. I'm so worryed for my baby. Anyone eles have this? Need help calming down. I'm paranoid off everything.
Avatar f tn I am sure the doctor will get back to you, but you really have to make sure and show this to your child's doctor. I have learned that the blood sugars he is having are not normal and he needs to be seen tomorrow. He needs the follow up testing asap and needs an A1C test. This shows the average blood sugar over the last few months. It showed my daughter to have a glucose intolerance. Good Luck. Becky This is on the american diabetes association website.
Avatar n tn I have gestational diabetes.
Avatar f tn You go into the lab and you can't eat or drink anything for the last 10-12 hours except small sips of water (do it early in the morning if possible) they give you this sugary drink (taste kinda like orange soda pop) that you have to drink within 5 minutes then you wait an hour then they draw some blood. It's done to make sure your blood sugar levels are at a normal range and that you don't have gestational diabetes.
6674791 tn?1396215150 So I just found out that I failed my 3hr glucose test earlier today (my test was yesterday). I have an appointment tomorrow morning but I just wanted to know what's in store for me? What is the next step that they take with my pregnancy?? I am 29 weeks and this pregnancy is very hard on me.
Avatar f tn I got my test done and my results read 131. They explained to me abnormal or positive for gestational diabetes was 140 or above.
Avatar f tn I got gestational diabetes with this pregnancy. Didn't have in the past with my prior two. i certainly wasn't happy about it, but it's fairly easy to deal with. I failed the first hour so badly they didn't make me take the 3-hr ...I think I had a 193. So OB's office called in a script for a glucouse monitor, test strips, lancets, and alcohol swabs and referred me to the nutritionist at the Perinatalogists. These guys managed the GD.
1640871 tn?1321673746 So far my blood pressure has been normal (high for me but still normal) and I have my gestational diabetes test next month. Hopefully they get everything under control for you and you and baby remain healthy.
Avatar n tn Better to know and manage it as untreated gestational diabetes is unsafe for you and your baby. Please have it done. It was a blessing in disguise for me, I am now much healthier due to increased exercise and eating well. Before I was struggling with weight gain and was feeling really crappy. I've actually lost weight but the baby is doing well.
Avatar f tn I have gestational diabetes and they do check with every urine test to see if you have glucose in your urine. It helps them determine if your body is having issues producing and using insulin. I will tell you glucose will show up in your urine the more sugar you eat so if you are eating a lot of Ben and jerry's that's probably what is doing it. If i go off my diet and eat a few cookies they see the glucose in my urine.
Avatar f tn Hi, did anyone develop gestational diabetes and if so, how are you being treated for it?
Avatar f tn Im almost 20 weeks n dr. Set up glucose test for next appt. Really worrying about it since both my mother and grandmother had gestational diabetes...plus when I had sono yesterday baby weighed 11oz which according to some websites is above average although dr said it was fine.
Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.
Avatar f tn m not a doctor but you could have gestational diabetes, high sugar levels and low sugars are signs of gestational diabetes. But definately talk to your doctor about a Glucose test...
Avatar f tn I failed my 1hr and had my 3 hr glucose test today.. if i fail what happens? What will my doctor do and what will be going on with the baby?
Avatar f tn Im currently 26wks, i went to thw dr today and did the 1hr glucose test, they just called and the results were slightly high,I'm.scheduled for another test on Friday anyone ever had gestational diabetes?? I'm scared.
