Avatar f tn I falied both my 1 and 3 hour test :( both times my glucose levels were high. So I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Are u scheduled for the 3 hour one?
Avatar n tn However, it was much more important to keep the after-pregnancy glucose levels low. Her doctors wanted between meal glucose readings never to go above about 130. For a gestational diabetic, this could mean having to reduce carbohydrate intake, for without any kind of blood-sugar lowering medication, carbohydrate intake is the only thing you can actually control. A typical "diabetic diet" is built on a system that uses a fairly high percentage of carbohydrates.
231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.
Avatar n tn it just never occurred to me to set my schedule to test once before breakfast, 2-3 hours after breakfast, once before lunch, 2-3 hours AFTER lunch, before dinner, and 2-3 hours after dinner, etc. Glucose levels can then be seen dropping or rising and she can adjust her insulin or drink some juice accordingly, BEFORE something severe happens to her. She might want to start always carrying 2 small 6-oz.
Avatar m tn The body recognizes intense exercise as a stress and releases stress hormones that tells your body to increase available blood glucose to fuel your muscles. If your glucose levels exceed normal levels discuss with your doctor medication or medication adjustment.
Avatar n tn Gestational diabetes, on the other hand, is (from what I have read in articles about gestational diabetes) caused by the hormonal changes during pregnancy creating a temporary insulin-resistance. After the baby is born, hormone levels change back to normal pre-pregnancy levels and the insulin resistance goes away. So I believe that you have little danger after the baby is born if your case follows the usual pattern.
Avatar n tn Before meals, a range of 70-126 is considered normal. After meals, glucose levels up to 140-something are considered normal. Your little one was probably crying so hard when his glucose levels were low because he felt bad... when glucose levels drop below about 70, we feel pretty awful. The high reading over 200 certainly is way above where the normal level should be, so I agree that he should be checked by a pediatrician.
Avatar m tn When did you have your blood glucose tested? Was it before you ate or after? Actually, personally, I consider 125 very good on either side of eating. Just me.
Avatar f tn In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar n tn Every site seems to have different ranges for what is normal and abnormal with fasting or non-fasting levels. I am somewhat confused, last night before bedtime 5.5 hrs after my meal, I had one cup of soda or Dr. Pepper. Do you think that is pre diabetes or Diabetes type 2 if it was at 154 mg/dl or does it not count? I was also diagnosed pre diabetic of 108 mg/dl, fasting all day 3 weeks back. This morning before breakfast it was 70 mg/dl. Is that normal?
Avatar n tn This is not only to protect the mother, but seems to be aimed at protecting the baby, too, for diabetic moms are more likely to have babies with defects when the glucose levels are high during the first few formative months of pregnancy. And diabetic moms are more likely to lose their babies in the last trimester also, when glucose levels are running too high.
Avatar n tn Both of these dangers are directly related to high blood sugar levels which can damage small blood vessels that supply the uterus, and so diabetics are encouraged to get very tight control over their glucose levels during pregnancy. This protects both mom and baby. When I was pregnant, I was told that the optimum goal was to never have the glucose readings go above 150 at about 2-3 hours after a meal.
Avatar f tn I'm a little sad that I didn't pass my glucose test yesterday now I gotta go back for the 3 hour test I pray that I score in the passing levels come Monday...has anyone else had to take the test twice??
Avatar m tn Two hours after eating breakfast my glucose levels were 161. Right after a brisk 1 hour walk they were 104. I ate a small sandwich and checked (2) hours after eating. My glucose wat 181. What's up with this. Right now my waking numbers average about 150. Do these seem right?

Avatar n tn t say for sure it was a response to the test. The fact that your levels are fine is a good sign that you may get through this pregnancy without the gestational diabetes. But even so you may want to do an occasional blood test to make sure. You sound like you are very on top of the situation and I'm sure your doctor willkeep an eye on your blood sugars also. I wish you good health and an enjoyable and succesful pregnancy.
Avatar m tn - Diabetes, although blood glucose tests are needed to diagnose diabetes. Small increases in urine glucose levels after a large meal are not always a cause for concern. - A rare condition in which glucose is released from the kidneys into the urine, even when blood glucose levels are normal (renal glycosuria) - Pregnancy -- up to half of women will have glucose in their urine at some point during pregnancy. Glucose in the urine may mean that a woman has gestational diabetes.
Avatar n tn I am a type 1 diabetic since childhood and I have two healthy children. If a diabetic woman keeps her glucose levels tightly controlled, pregnancy is usually uneventful. Any risks would be if you let your glucose levels go high and remain high.
Avatar n tn Then, you drink a sweet syrupy drink and blood is drawn at different times after this to see what happens to your glucose levels. If you have an episode of reactive hypoglycemia during this test, it will show up. I am a very tightly controlled diabetic, and because I keep my baseline glucose levels low, I often have slight drops in glucose or mild hypoglycemia. Sometimes when this happens, I have the same symptoms you describe.
