Glucose infusion rate tpn

Common Questions and Answers about Glucose infusion rate tpn

glucose

Avatar f tn Your grandson is likely to be receiving Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), which provides all the nutrients required for growth and development through IV fluids. TPN includes not only glucose, but also amino acids (for protein building), essential fats, vitamins, and minerals. As the intestinal tract is able to tolerate more feeding, the TPN will gradually be reduced.
Avatar n tn I spoke with my Cardiologist. I was in the hospital for SVT's 3 weeks ago. My malnourishment and nutritional status is pretty bad due to my Crohn's Disease. I am on TPN at the moment. He believes once i put some weight on, my Natural Pace maker will get stronger. I was put on cardizem. I do suffer from anxiety. During my moniter readings, he said that he has seen 180's, 160's and other real fast heart rates. But he said ALL LOOKED normal sinus rythem and was only tachycardia.
645800 tn?1466860955 I did get the same nurse to establish the IV and she used the old fashioned method and had no trouble at all getting it started. Once the infusion was finished they again checked my glucose and it was at 308 so they gave me another 10 units of insulin. They also told me to check my glucose when I got home. After they 2.5 hour ride home I checked my glucose and it was 266. At that level how in the world could I have any dinner without a repeat of last night cardiac event.
18811274 tn?1468284191 I have had Crohn's Disease since I was around 14. I am 61. Seven bowel surgeries, IBS, chronic pancreatitis describes my life in a nut shell. I am in constant pain. A colonoscopy last month show the crohn's is again active again and my stomach is not emptying properly thus the Idiopathic Gastroparesis diagnosis. I have read everything and anything I can get my hands on about this and my question is this. It appears that very little can be done for this condition.
Avatar n tn I do suffer from anxiety, but also malnourished. I am on TPN at the moment to build my weight up. Sometimes, the minute i stand.. my heart rate is 170. Sitting on the toilet, it may be normal or 120-135. Or 160+ if im anxious. Overall, my resting heart rates are 75-100. Not bad. I can handle that. What can i do? Just wait it out? Condition? I havent been upstairs in my house in a month because im so obsessed with my heart rate i hate it. i fear walking and exercising. I rest ALOT.
645800 tn?1466860955 ) Once I got through there I checked back with the nurses were I got the infusion therapy to see if I was going to get an RX for my glucose. I was told NO, they were checking with my PCP to see if I needed anything and if I did I would get a call from them. DUH! I've already had one cardiac event due to glucose levels and have consistent reading from 366 to 151 since I started the infusions.
Avatar f tn Also my doc ended putting me on a picc line with tpn-home infusion so that I would not.get dehydrated. It sucked having to stay home for such a long time with it but it helped me to stay hydrated.
Avatar n tn At birth he had only a couple of inches left of his intestines. Does the TPN that was given to him in the hospital, have any adverse effects on him as he's getting older?
1353681 tn?1387083733 Been having pulsating feelings under skin/tingling and wondering it could be? It is at the infusion site under the skin and I'm not sure if this interrupts or changes insulin delivery? Any tips welcome, thanks.
Avatar f tn With the exception of this time, in the past I have been able to eat once on the TPN and than once the TPN is stopped I begin to lose foods again. However this TPN cycle has not done that. I am on the following medications: Domperidone- I have been on and off this for the last year and a half. Currently I am taking 20 MG 4 times a day. In the past I have raised it to 40 MG 4 times a day and still got no relief.
Avatar f tn He is not eating much and requires TPN every day over the nighttime. How do you wean someone from TPN who only has 50 cm of small bowel? What are the odds of him getting off the TPN?
Avatar f tn Alannah is now on TPN as well as breast feeds and she has a stoma. She is due for another surgery in 3 weeks to see if they can find any more small bowel that will work. Has anyone had any experience with this amount of small bowel??
9109315 tn?1408617920 Has anyone heard of passing the glucose test and becoming diabetic or getting gestational diabetes after taking the test? I passed with both pregnancies. It seems like after that test both times I have an issue with sugar until I delivered. I go Monday to the PCP, and find out what's going on. I was just wondering. My ob with my first didn't seem to worried. That's why I never bothered to get it checked. Now that I have a 2yr.
Avatar n tn After she got admitted in hospital she stated getting breathing problems. They were giving giving her loads of medication that included antibiotic as well as (tpn).... dr also confined that she also developed fungal infection.. I was will her the night this happened. Me and the nurse was communicating that my mother breather was getting better and nurse insist that she will be off oxygen in the morning . I was very happy to think she was comming of oxygen soon.
Avatar n tn I am now on a pump but still have very erratic blood glucose control. I check my blood glucose 6-8 times per day and count carbs carefully. However I do not go 1 day without experiencing hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.
1490422 tn?1304961250 he is 53 and yes he is on tpn
Avatar f tn I had by glucose tests done and ny glucose was good but I'm anemic. I'm normally not anemic the one time I was before was after a miscarriage. I wasn't any other time than when I had a miscarriage and now in n my third trimester anyone else become anemic in late pregnancy or should I be worried??
Avatar n tn I've been offered the oppurtunity to participate in a Dexcom Trial, and I'm rather psyched by the idea (heck, its the closest I've come to using a continuous glucose moniter) but I was looking at pics of the apparatus,(on CWD) and gee, that stuff look lethal. (Especially the inserter)I couldn't find much info (online) about it- would anyone know if the receiver thingie is connected to the sensor pod?
Avatar n tn Ok, So i was in the hospital for a week for SVT.. Heart rate was near 300bpm. Adenosine Administerd. Im on Cardizem and the 3 week Moniter from Cardionet showed a lot of High NORMAL sinus Rythem but Tachy at times of like 160+ 180+ etc..Looks like the cardizem is working for the SVT. A month has gone by since the hospital and im on TPN as well because i am very malnourished. Just another issue. The TPN has helped a lot.
1221035 tn?1301000508 I had my second infusion on Wednesday of last week. During my infusion, I was freezing/chilling. I asked for a blanket and a little later, when I was still so cold, they adjusted the A/C. Nothing was said to me that chills could be a reaction. As soon as I left, I felt nausea, dizziness, off balance, jello legs, I fell against the wall outside of the building on my way out.....and I had this internal tremor/vibration shaking feeling inside.
1251333 tn?1445218215 If you do not have issues, your next infusion should go quicker, as they will start it at a slightly higher rate. Because there were issues, DD, started at 50 mg/hr rate even on the second infusion. Let's see how they do this in May. The nurses laughed when I sat and worked out the drip rates and timings during DD first infusion...I was bored and nervous, and I guess I wanted to see if my Paramedic training on drip rates was still working...
Avatar n tn After almost dying, she had her entire small intestine removed. Up till now, she has survived with TPN only and cannot tolerate whole foods. She wears a bag to her stoma removing the bile and found out on Friday three days ago, that her gall bladder must be removed laproscopically. Until then, she was waiting to hear from the insurance if she would be able to move forward for a 'live' small transplant or a cadaver's.
