Common Questions and Answers about Glucose in serum

glucose

Avatar f tn Blood glucose test measures the level of glucose in the blood. It cannot tell you the reason behind the high glucose level in the blood. If you develop insulin resistance, then naturally your blood glucose level rises. However in your case the glucose level is normal. If your insulin test comes positive, then you can develop high blood sugar levels in the future. Do let me know if there is any thing else you want to know and please keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar n tn I had recent dizzyness (usually at night), and went to my cardiologist about it, nad he took me off one of my blood pressue meds. Dizzyness seems better. They gave me a blood test, and my Glucose Serum came in at 103. It had been 87 about 3 months ago. This latest bloodtest was given to me about an hour after I had a glass of orange juice, and an english muffin with peanut butter. I believe that I had also not fasted before the blood test 3 months ago.

Avatar m tn this is a simple test offered be almost any lab that involves establishing a baseline fasting glucose result, then having the patient ingest a known quantity of glucose in solution. Serum glucose samples are then collected at specified intervals to determine the rate of glucose metabolism. If you indeed have insulin resistance, this will be reflected in the time it takes your serum to return to baseline glucose levels. Whatcha think, Mike?
Avatar f tn I do know that CSF glucose usually falls within a certain percentage of what the serum glucose is. If I remember right CSF glucose should be about 2/3 of the serum glucose. That seems true with your posted result. Regardless of my accuracy on this, you didn’t post anything that indicated either result was abnormal. I hope none of this increases your anxiety. I suspect you already have some suspicions yourself and that’s why I haven’t held back what I see in your posted results.
Avatar n tn I assume your mother had her blood work done after overnight fasting and before she ingested food or liquids onther than water. If that is true and her: (in your words) "Glucose is 180." she could have diabetes. Her next step should be to see her doctor about both the high cholesterol and the elevated glucose levels.
Avatar m tn Protein adult range is up to 18 to 56 mg/dl and child of 5 years would have similar normal levels. CSF glucose is usually 2/3rd s of serum glucose in the last few hours. You can consult a pediatrician about the cell counts with appropriate clinical correlation. It is of paramount significance that these findings are checked along with the clinical presentation of your son. You are most welcome with any further clarification. Wish you the very best.
Avatar n tn Been taking lots of blood work from different docs and my glucose serum is really high normal. Also had a 2hr. glucose tolerance test. High normal. Docs say I have Rheumatoid arthritis but I may have Lupus. Seeing a new doc this week. I have fibromyalgia. Along with the heat sensation, I get prickling pins/needles all over my body. The pain is so bad from it. I don't know what's going on with me.
Avatar f tn They state that excess dietary lysine did not change serum lipids and glucose significantly. The data showed that excess lysine caused changes in lipid metabolism which varied with the quantity of casein in it. Regards.
Avatar f tn I found out I had Diabetes type 2 in October 2007, I am still learning to find out what I can eat to control my blood glucose levels. My doctor put me straight onto Metformin. 12 years ago I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. I was diagnosed by tests that I had an underactive thyroid for which I have been treated for ever since. I have never weighed anything more than 144lbs. I am 5 ft 5 inches tall. When I was put onto the medication for Thyroid the weight dropped off and stayed off.
