Avatar m tn I always take 2 or 3 pulkas or chapathis during night every day and i dont eat rice during night.. But whenever i check the blood glucose levels with the glucometer, i find that the fasting values are not within the range of normal values viz 110 for fasting. but the post lunch levels always within the normal range of viz 140.The random levels always varies from 125 to 150. Kindly advise me whether i am diabetic and do i have to take medicine for diabetes?
Avatar m tn The body doesn't make the difference when talking about sugars because even if it is fructose, lactose or sucrose or glucose and even if it's from a candy or a vegetable, in the end they will all end up being glucose in your body. What does make a point tho is that complex carbohydrates take longer time to break down in your body to that means the blood glucose remains more stable. Complex carbohydrates are startchy food like patatoes, rice and pastas.

My A1C was 5.7 My fasting glucose for the last two years is between 95 and 108, was tested about 6,7 times. Doc just says good exercise and diet. I do that! 1)What is a simple recommended diet to keep blood sugar low? I eat vary basic, would like to keep this as simple as possible. My diet is pretty much poultry for meat / protein, veggies , fruit. The only sugar I intake is in granola bars.

Avatar m tn 6 months ago, my A1C tested at 6.9. 3 months later I tested at 5.8. A very recent test showed it had dropped to a 5.1. This was accomplished soley by alteration in diet. I do not take any medication. I try to limit myself to less than 50 grams of carbohydrates per day. I live on handfuls of almonds, and peanuts, cheese, and eggs. I've completely cut out potatoes, pasta, and rice, and if course anything with sugar in it.
Avatar n tn So if you are above your optimal weight, you need to work on bringing it down, and that alone will make a big difference in your blood glucose. Then you need to significantly lower the carbs you take in which is what raise blood glucose when you eat. Carbs include sweets of course, but also bread potatoes rice cereal and pasta. If you eat something and then test two hours later you will know if you can continue to eat that food or that amount of that food.

Avatar f tn A white rice or quinoa would be alright in small amounts and in moderation. (I know people will rail against white rice but whole grain or brown rice contain too much anti-nutrients and can cause leaky gut syndrome) Make sure to eat those starches with protein and fat to help reduce the spikes of glucose. Do not go low fat, your growing baby NEEDS saturated fat in order to build healthy neuro-processors. Just stay away from trans-fats (mostly found in processed foods).

Everything I ate seemed spicy, Pork Fried rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Fried Shrimp, Pork in a sauce I can't spell, egg roll, and the hot Chinese mustard. The only thing that should have been spicy was the egg roll since I dipped it in the mustard. Oh but I do love that mustard, the hotter the better!

This means you will eat lean meats in moderation, plenty of green and brightly colored veges, moderate whole grain cereals, some fruits - but stay away or limit portions of very sweet fruits, nuts, some dairy, healthy fats / oils. Boy I found that I can eat protein (including steak) without much rise in my blood glucose. Whenever I have regular bread/potatoes/rice or pasta it raises my BG depending on how much I eat. I do monitor my carbs and since doing so have lowed my A1c from 7.3 to 6.2 without medications.

You are in more danger from flour, rice, and potatoes than you are from a teaspoon full of sugar!!! Can you imagine eating a cup of sugar, teaspoon full by teaspoon full? Yuck. Avatar m tn Starchy foods (bread, potato, rice, pasta and fruits) should be taken in limited quantities and replaced with non-starchy vegetables. Hope your doctor will also instruct you in how to manage this. You may look into getting a blood sugar meter so you can test your sugars at home. Ideal numbers are < 90 for fasting, and < 120 1 1 /2 - 2 hours after eating.

In general most of us find we need to eliminate sugar and greatly reduce carbohydrate intake especially things like white bread, cereal rice and pasta. The best way to know what works for YOU is to try a certain food and test your blood glucose two hours after eating and make sure you stay within target.

Stress can cause glucose levels to rise, but if they stay elevated (you wrote that they were elevated at his last checkup also, so they appear to have been elevated for a long enough period of time to cause concern), they can cause damage to his body. I would call his doctor and schedule a follow-up appointment to find out what the doctor wishes to do to help him achieve good health in this area.
Avatar n tn You are doing only 1/3 of what is necessary to control and manage your glucose levels. Maintaining normal body and daily 30-60 minute exercise must be undertaken. As you know, diet alone does not do the trick. You must adhere to all three - diet, weight, and exercise. And, yes, illness can spike glucose levels. I don't know what you mean by "if one can eat more normally by taking Metformin". If you mean return to your old eating habits that created your diabetes, absolutely not.

Sometime it got nothing to do with your diet, just you body's ability to handle them. My doctor told me most of her Asian patients fail and they normally don't eat a lot of sweet but there's sugar in the rice we eat. She was preparing me for the worst but luckily I pass the 3hrs one.
Avatar n tn HI, Your A1C is within the normal range, but the fact that your glucose was over 200 during your IGT means to me that you have some abnormalities in our glucose handling. I was confused by the way your IGT results were written(because you have 3 values for 30 minutes). I think that given your test results and the fact that you are overweight, you should start on some lifestyle modifications now instead of continually retesting.

We eat pretty healthy too with lots of fruits and veggies. I am now 28wks and really would love to keep the Sugar in check for the next couple months so that it will not creep up beyond 7.8 mark. Any suggestions/experiences/tips that you could share about this would be greatly appreciated!!!
