Glucose homeostasis starvation

Common Questions and Answers about Glucose homeostasis starvation

glucose

Tbd Postprandial hyperglycemia is also one of the earliest abnormalities of glucose homeostasis associated with type 2 diabetes" https://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/24/4/775 So test 1-2 hours after a meal. As a pure guess, I'd think that once a month is sufficient - unless you change your diet or activity or other risk factors.
Avatar f tn High specific gravity and ketones are present in dehydration (drinking less amount of fluid, diarrhea, vomiting, excessive sweating) and starvation. Drink plenty of water (at least 8 glasses) and eat healthy food. But you also need to get your blood sugar levels checked as high specific gravity and ketones can be found in glycosuria. Glycosuria is the excretion of glucose into the urine. It is caused by elevated blood glucose levels, most commonly due to untreated diabetes mellitus.
Avatar m tn Now When he had the fever doctor advised us to do a urine routine test and when i got the reports i was shocked to see ketone bodies (3+) in his urine but his glucose and protine was negative for urine test and he had no urine infection. Now when i looked through internet about the Ketones i found that it has something to do with Diabetes. I am very scared of this. No one in mine and my wifes family has diabetes and so i feel my son may not have this and that to he is so yuong to have this.
Avatar n tn (I was tested about two hours after a large meal too, so the ketones were not out of starvation, and I do not exercise.) They have always seen protein in my urine also. At times though, I can tell my blood sugar goes down a lot, because I get very shaky, and at other times when my blood sugar is not low, I sometime black out for a second, get very dizzy, and faint. I also have excessive night sweats, and minor inner ear pain. I am not sure what to think any more. Any help would be great! P.
Avatar n tn I notice daily at around 2pm I get weak and in need of food. My glucose is around 85-90 when I feel lousy. My question: after eating a high carb meal today I took my blood sugar after; 1 hour it was 95 1.5 hours it was 116 2 hrs around 105 My A1C are well in control. My fasting glucose is steadily increasing from 85 4 yrs ago to 105 at present. Although when it was measured last I lost 15 lbs and now below my required weight but I feel terrible.
Avatar f tn These appear in individuals with uncontrolled diabetes and also during periods of starvation or a stringent dietary regimen. Presence of oily substance in urine along with orangish or dark yellow-colored urine can be attributed to biliary disease or jaundice. Increase your intake of water and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Pimple like bumps can be due to boils, folliculitis, impetigo or pyoderma.Topical antibiotics and oral antibiotics may help. Maintain good hygiene.
Avatar n tn Hi Doctor, I'm a 25 year old Belgian man with, in my eyes, a decent metabolism. From the age 11 to 18 I've always performed sports (gymnastics, competitional squash and eventually powertraining/fitness) while eating a regular amount to more then a regular amount of food, even to the extent that I couldn't gain weight from eating more and more. Mainly because I was unaware of nutritional values. People always told me I looked good, not skinny, weighing around 79kg (and stuck at it).
Avatar f tn Please explain and could that explain why I have not lost any wt for almost a month.I have already lost 100lbs and need to lose 20more. Every day my calories burned exceeds my intake of calories by greater than 800cal..I need to restart loss and wondering if this "starvation mode" could be reason?
Avatar n tn I read something about your body conserving calories in starvation mode when it senses the calories are not enough. But I do not have any of the fatigue and hair loss symptoms of the "starvation mode." So, what is going on, why am I not losing weight? Does it have to do with my body conserving calories?
929728 tn?1256162688 If you reduce your calorie intake too quickly, your body will assume your going into a starvation cycle and hold onto fat longer, so decreasing your calorie intake by 10% at a time, giving your body a chance to adjust to that, then reducing by 10% more, will fool your body into burning fat. Generally cardio work starts to switch from glucose burning to fat burning around 35-40 minutes into the workout. You can do it!!

Avatar f tn The liver plays an important role in coordinating the regulation of iron homeostasis and is involved in regulating the level of iron absorption in the duodenum and iron recycling by the macrophages. Iron homeostasis is disturbed by several metabolic and genetic disorders, including various forms of hereditary hemochromatosis. This review will focus on liver disease and how it is affected by disordered iron homeostasis, as observed in hereditary hemochromatosis and due to HFE mutations.
Avatar f tn As long as it's not homeostasis you'll be fine. Try an oatmeal bath maybe.
Avatar f tn I am on metformin 2000mg, but my blood glucose is still high in the morning yet low after my evening meal. Is there anything I can do to lower the readings. And why would this be happening. This discussion is related to Diabetic meds.
Avatar m tn t even walk much due to foot pain problems. Anyway, my blood glucose used to be around the 140 mark then I started taking Actos 30 mg mg., I now take ONLY take 15 mg and my fasting blood sugar is around 110 to 115. I also barely eat in the morning - a cup of yogart and a banana for breakfast, a small turkey sandwhich for lunch. Afternoon I feel I'm having a hypglycemic attack so I have some cookies and coffee or tea (I need the caffeine- I'm dying from fatigue!
6695047 tn?1383854549 He has reached what my vet is saying is a homeostasis phase which, as has been the case with Riggs, is very odd for an AKD cat. They either get noticeably worse or better, and he is neither. Has anyone else ever had a similar experience, either as a vet or owner, and can tell me what the outcome was? And any advice that helped you through it? He has only just been started on syringe feeding the last day and a half. Did syringe feeding make a difference?
Avatar f tn 500 cals isn't a starvation diet. In fact most 'starvation' stuff I.e. starvation diet, starvation mode isn't more than a myth. If she can maintain it healthily and go back to 'regular eating' subtly she'll continue losing weight quickly.
Avatar n tn Why is it easier for someone with diabetes to get ketones on normal blood sugars, and do thin people get ketones easier? Are starvation calories still dangerous? Since then,I have had trace-small ketones and blood sugars 140-200,can't seem to get rid of the ketones. Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn The reason for ketosis is due to not enough glucose and so the body has to break down stored fat and convert it into energy instead. Metabolizing fat raises blood ketone levels therefore leading to ketosis. Ketosis can occur with type 1 diabetes, alcoholism, starvation, and with a low carbohydrate, high fat/protein diet.
Avatar n tn s main fuel is glucose). If this happens, those emergency stores elevate the glucose levels some to protect the brain so it can do its job of regulating the body. This is why many diabetics will find themselves with high glucose after a severe low. Now, if ANOTHER low happens while some of those stores of emergency sugars are still detected by the brain, it won't send out the warning signals the next time, for it thinks it already has glucose to work off of.
Avatar n tn It's called cholestasis (not homeostasis), but the above poster is right about the rest of it. Definitely ask your Dr on Monday though just to be sure!
Avatar n tn t like the way food even feels moving/digesting through my stomach. I panic when I feel it. Starvation just feels right to me, going on 40 days of not eating feels right. Now that I've gotten this far I just don't want to start eating again. Even if I do eat again how am I going to transition from one to the other. Then throw into it the "freak out" over stomach digesting my food. Thanks for responding I appreciate it.
Avatar f tn You are starving yourself. Anything under 900 calories a day will put your body into starvation mode. Even if you do lose weight it will be difficult to keep off if you start eating normally because your body will try to store every bit of excess energy it can get in case you starve it again. Not to mention all the health problems starvation can cause. If you find you are having difficulty/feeling guilty about consuming at least 900 calories a day (and thats net calories, ie.
Avatar n tn By starving out i mean absolute absence of food intake except water, since cancer is bio organism even if its parasitical nature and it of course depends on nutrient, that means due to prolonged starvation cancer will eventually die. But how long it takes approximate to starve out pretty small cancer ? does two weeks of starvation will be enough ?
Avatar n tn Prominent among these factors is the level of iron in the body. Iron homeostasis is disturbed by several metabolic and genetic disorders, including various forms of hereditary hemochromatosis.
