Common Questions and Answers about Glucose homeostasis and diabetes

glucose

Tbd Postprandial hyperglycemia is also one of the earliest abnormalities of glucose homeostasis associated with type 2 diabetes" https://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/24/4/775 So test 1-2 hours after a meal. As a pure guess, I'd think that once a month is sufficient - unless you change your diet or activity or other risk factors.
Avatar n tn Scientists have identified specific genes that make people more likely to develop insulin resistance and diabetes. Excess weight and lack of physical activity also contribute to insulin resistance. Many people with insulin resistance and high blood glucose have other conditions that increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and damage to the heart and blood vessels, also called cardiovascular disease.
Avatar f tn t produce enough of the Thyroid hormone. And I also know that when I had the Glucose test my thyroid levels may have been off because my doctor just adjusted my medication. So should I just no worry as much as retest Glucose after I get Thyroid under control or should I start cutting back on certain foods. I probably should cut back anyway since I am overweight but with Thyroid levels being off I probably won't loose weight anyway.
Avatar n tn Exercise helps people with diabetes keep their blood sugar in good control and within a normal range. Glucose is used while exercising, which would lower the blood sugar level, not raise it. If you are predisposed to developing type 1 diabetes, no amount of exercise will change this. On the other hand, type 2 diabetes is linked with obesity, and exercise would definitely help with the prevention of that type.
Avatar n tn s main ingredient is prednisolone, which is a corticosteroid [not be confused with Anabolic steroids], and it may/does raise glucose levels? Did you discuss the length of usage with the eye surgeon and also inform him/her you are diabetic? Depending on length your elevated morning glucose may be short lived. You might consider discussing with your Pharmacist an alternative eye drop that doesn't affect your glucose levels, then call your physician.
Avatar n tn If abnormal then discuss with your doctor treatment options and methods as diabetes can be controlled and managed with ease. Until then, enjoy life.
Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.
Avatar f tn How would a doctor go about testing 4 diabetes? And would i have to have all the symptoms or just a few?
Avatar m tn Honey contains fructose, which in a majority of diabetics elevates glucose levels. One must make and maintain lifestyle changes in order to control and manage their diabetes and/or help reverse it. Reversing diabetes depends greatly on your unknown glucose levels and how long you've been that way. It depends also on your current body weight and diet.
Avatar f tn I was told that it cause weight gain, and it was the weight gain which cause diabetes? But I lost 40lbs and my glucose numbers worsened after a year instead of improving. What does that medication do concerning glucose tolerance????
Avatar n tn I've had my blood sugar checked several times over the past 12 months in relation to my frequent lightheadedness / imbalance. My fasting bloodsugar seems to be around 120-130 usually. I had a glucose tolerance test and it came back "normal". A new doctor just ran an a1c test on me and it came back as 6. I am over weight (not losing weight as I often read about when looking up diabetes). Does above normal blood sugar always mean diabetes?
Avatar n tn Doing all three will help control and manage your glucose levels. Along with avoiding sugary foods a low to no carb diet plan is recommended for t2 diabetics. Carbs to t2 diabetics are the same as sugar - elevates our glucose [blood sugar] above and beyond acceptable levels. A very good place to look for low carb recipes is the Atkins [diet] web site http://tinyurl.com/atkins-recipes . Replace sugar with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda or Stevia.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Type 11 last year and have been trying to control my diabetes with diet alone. Recently my blood sugar has been quite high, regardless of what I eat. I am keeping a diary for my doctor and he may prescribe Metformin. I know I can go to Diabetes classes for info but was wondering if one can eat more normally by taking Metformin? And it seemed to spike when I had a cold but the cold is gone, but not the high blood sugar readings. Anyone else affected by illness?
Avatar n tn The dry mouth sensation and other symptoms (hunger, dizziness, etc.) COULD be symptoms of hypoglycemia. When my sugar levels are lower than normal, I feel those things. Eyes get dry, vision can sometimes blur, and things can even look "funny" when glucose is extremely low. The glucose tolerance test should show whether you are hypoglycemic or not. You might try drinking a little bit of juice when you feel this way to see if you feel better quickly.
Avatar f tn Has anyone on here been testes for gestational diabetes?? And did you have any after affects of the sweet syrup nasty crap?? Like I feel nauseated, and burping a LOT and occasionally I get really really hot and feel like I'll pass out... Has anyone experienced this at all?? I also just found out that I have chlamydia o.o my ob has prescribed me a one time dose of medication that I'll be picking up and taking tomorrow.
Avatar m tn We volunteers for JDRF are well-read on diabetes and its treatmends and on how it affects the people who live with it, but most of us are not medical professionals. So I will leave you with these fairly basic responses, and suggest that you perhaps use my comments to perhaps spur a call to a local endocrinologist to ask the specific why's if you seek more specific information on how cells change during illness or stress.
Avatar f tn But then, I manage and control my glucose levels carefully and live a healthy lifestyle. Quoting from an article on mismanaged diabetes, "Researchers believe that up to 50% of people with diabetes will experience some sort of sexual dysfunction at some point. But even if diabetes doesn’t directly cause sexual dysfunction, other diabetes-related health issues can influence your sexual desire and may be a threat to intimacy within a relationship.
Avatar n tn I have not found out if I have diabetes by a doctor but I get the shakes and lightheadedness all the time and some people say it could be diabetes. So Im wondering wheather or not I may have some form of diabetes or something else. I have tried to find out if I have diabetes by using a home kit to check and I didnt have diabetes. So I am wondering if home kits dont work as well as a blood test or not?
Avatar n tn normal weight, moderate exercise, and proper nutrition.

Avatar m tn Hi I went and had a routine blood test done that included glucose levels. It showed 176 mg/dl and I'm shocked! Does this mean I have diabetes? I'm a marathon runner so I run and exercise a lot and live a very healthy life in general. I never eat sweets. Also as I recall the last couple of times I have had blood work done my glucose level has been around 95. Please advise. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Kidney failure has been associated with uncontrolled and badly managed glucose levels. It would benefit you the most if you lowered your glucose levels to normal values. Your current glucose daily average - based upon your A1c 9.9% - is between 11.8-13.3 mmol/l [212-240 mg/dl]. HIGH. Foods? Look at diabetic nutrition and perform daily physical exercises. See this link, especially the paragraph on GFR http://www.kidney.org/kidneydisease/ckd/knowGFR.
Avatar m tn A lot depends on current health status and associated drugs/medicines currently taken as some drugs cause interactions with other drugs which can raise glucose levels. GIYF - Google Is Your Friend - use it to locate specific drug interactions and/or contraindications.
