Common Questions and Answers about Glucose fasting symptoms

glucose

Avatar f tn Get an A1c test to verify your glucose levels. This is another blood glucose test. Your fasting test results do indicate diabetes. Although this may be associated with your PCOS I'd wait for the liver/kidney/hormonal tests results. I think your doctor is on the right track in determining what is causing your issues.
Avatar f tn went to see my nurse as I had a severe itch in my vagina round the part were you pass urine and the outsides was also suffering from tiredness blurry vision and sore legs she did some swabs which came back with an candida infection but wasnt the common one cant remember the name of the one. She also did glucose fasting test which was ok she was concerened that I was showing symptoms of Diabetes.
Avatar f tn She has had CAT scans, MRIs, EEGs, blood tests for fasting glucose, had an overnight sleep study, we have done listening therapy, and she is now off gluten and dairy. I have felt for a long time that she has an endocrine disorder, but I do not know which one. Her fasting glucose was fine 2 years ago. She is not losing weight, but not gaining very fast. Help! We are trying everything and we cannot get any answers. It is so sad to see her struggling and not be able to help her.
Avatar m tn s not enough. You need to do 2 hour fasting oral glucose with a fasting test, a test at 1 hour after drinking a 75 G drink of glucose solution and a 2 hour test. My fasting tests usually come back in a good range as well, but my 1 and 2 hour test after drinking the glucose drink are well over 200 which is all it takes to diagnose diabetes. If you have a monitor and are "randomly" doing testing... all I can say, is quit doing it randomly. For 3-4 days in a row test at these times.
975514 tn?1324997938 I recently had a blood test, which included a glucose test. I wasn't fasting. I ate a bowl of whole grain cereal at about 5AM. My test was a 10AM. My uncle has diabetes and my sister is hypoglycemic. I know I get sick if I have a shake from McDonalds, but that's about it. I get really tired and nauseated. I don't drink sugary beverages at all just because I am always watching my weight, but I wonder now how that would effect me?
Avatar n tn Just got results from annual bloodwork. Glucose level was 270 and this was a fasting blood test. They told me it was high- How bad is it? My dr. was suspicious because I have lost weight and have a few other symptoms. So I am glad they tested, but do not have a follow up appt for another month. Any info is appreciated.
Avatar n tn I had a glucose tolerance test and an insulin fasting (drinking the glucose drink) blood test done. I have seen my results but have not had them interpreted for me. My glucose fasting results came back within normal range but my insulin fasting results came back out of range for the 0,1, & 2 hour results. They were much higher than the normal ranges. Does this mean I have insulin resistance?
Avatar n tn If I were you, I would ask my doctor about doing a fasting glucose test and then a glucose tolerance test in addition. This will tell him what your fasting levels are as sort of a baseline, and then also will show how your body responds to carbohydrates -- this test will show if your sugar levels are spiking high after you eat or drink carbs, or if they are dropping low, too.
Avatar n tn About a year and a half a year ago, I was diagnosed with impaired glucose fasting, fasting glucose level was 119. At that time I was complaining of constant thirst, frequent urination, and sometimes night sweats, and slow healing. 6 month follow-up (one year ago) the fasting glucose level was 113. A1C was 6.0 I have been modifiying diet, exercising frequently and have lost approx 10-12 lbs.
306245 tn?1244384967 The accepted ways of screening for diabetes are a fasting glucose, a random glucose(not as good) or a 2 hour glucose tolerance test. A HgB A1C is sometimes used by doctors but it is not widely accepted as a good screening measure, so I suggest a fasting or an OGTT. You should also have a thyroid screen(TSH) done. Fasting glucose is not perfect, so yes you can have a "false negative" in terms of saying you have no abnormalities in glucose handling.
1654177 tn?1319838494 First, congrats on obtaining SVR! Random Glucose Testing I'm with Kaiser Nor Cal. Random glucose [fasting] range is 60-159 mg/dl. Random non-fasting really doesn't provide a clear picture. A low of 68 mg/dl is worth follow up testing; Fasting, an OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test] and/or an A1c. if the OGTT points to diabetes and A1c usually is ordered. The OGTT sees how well your body shed excess glucose. The A1c looks at your glucose levels over the past 2-3 months.
Avatar n tn It had information about pre-diabetes, when blood glucose levels after fasting are between 100-125. It says diabetes is indicated when fasting blood sugars are 126 or higher. Yours are in between those with 120-130. So, this may be something to ask your doctor about. Are you seeing an Endocronologist?-that is a diabetes specialist-sounds like you are, but I wanted to make sure. Losing weight is not easy! Are you walking or doing some other activity?
1422878 tn?1284584593 What was your fasting glucose result? Under 100 is normal, 100-125 is pre-diabetes and over 126 is diabetes. But the standard for diagnosis of diabetes is now the A1C not a fasting as it gives an average of blood sugars for a period of a couple months which is a lot more useful than just one single fasting which can vary.
Avatar m tn Both of your values suggest that you have impaired fasting glucose (range 100 - 125). The measurement is the same in fasting and non fasting testing - the difference is in the reference range. A normal fasting glucose is < 100 and the current thinking seems to be that even a result in the mid to high 90s might suggest close monitoring. The answer to your question is that it doesn't matter whether they call it non fasting or fasting glucose test result.
Avatar n tn There are several ways you can diagnose diabetes. Your level last night after one cup of soda is more representative of a random blood glucose. A random glucose of >200mg/dL with symptoms of diabetes is diagnostic of Type 2 Diabetes. Therefore, from that one measure, you do not have Type 2 Diabetes. However, your fasting sugar is within the pre-diabetic range. Are you pregnant? You posted in the gestation diabetes section which is diabetes within pregnancy. Hope that helps!
Avatar n tn We went in yesterday for a 12 hour fasting glucose test and the doctor (after discussing my reasons and her symptoms) decided to just give her the finger ***** test. She came in at 104 - which is not diabetes but high enough to schedule futher testing. We went in for another 12 hour fast lab test this morning and I won't have the results for a few days. The doctor WAS surprised at the 104 because he really thought she would come in around 60 to 70.
752468 tn?1237560359 Hi...I am a member of the Breast Cancer Community and just found out that my husband's blood glucose level fasting is 250. He has had the symptoms of diabetis ...excessive thirst, weight loss...tingly feet, and I noticed very sticky spots of urine on the bathroom floor. We are not surprised that he has diabetis...runs in the family. My question is, where do we go first. He hasn't even talked to a doctor yet, but we want to get a jump on this.
