231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.
Avatar f tn Get an A1c test to verify your glucose levels. This is another blood glucose test. Your fasting test results do indicate diabetes. Although this may be associated with your PCOS I'd wait for the liver/kidney/hormonal tests results. I think your doctor is on the right track in determining what is causing your issues.
745101 tn?1293038814 Well my Doctor got the results of the regular fasting glucose test and now wants me def. to do the gestational diabetes test in the next few days. My fasting one was 6.2 (for cdns) 112 for others who do it the other way. I'm not too worried. I've pretty much had the same result for the last three years so this is nothing new. Hopefully this doesn't translate into a problem on the other test though.
1490742 tn?1288600515 Fasting Glucose Test,Fasting Insulin Test,Glucose/Insulin Ratio,Glycohemoglobin A1C (HbA1C). They are all test to check the amout of sugar in your blood. As you are prolly aware of abnormalities of blood sugar and insulin are quite common in PCOS.
Avatar m tn Hello, Insulin resistance often is seen in women who have PCOS, so your lab tests are not too surprising. Did they also check a glucose level with that insulin level? The reason I ask is that higher insulin levels will be automatically seen with higher glucose levels many times just physiologically, but also you should have it checked to ensure you do not have early glucose handing problems which can also happen in PCOS.
Avatar m tn I can say that the fasting test shows your glucose level at one moment in time. Your A1c tells you what your average glucose levels were over the past 3 months so since that was normal, that's a good sign. There are many reasons that blood sugar could be high and stress is one of them. Also certain medications and supplements such as niacin and steroids can raise your blood sugar. I'm not in the medical field; this is information I've learned in doing my own research.
Avatar n tn You need to have a complete assessment of your hormones including FSH, LH, Estradiol, Prolactin, TSH, DHEAS, Testostoerone, 17OH-progesterone, fasting insulin, a 2 hour GTT with a 75 gram glucose challenge, lipid panel, kidney functions and liver functions. Women with PCOS have an increased risk for diabetes or glucose intolerance or insulin resistance.
415867 tn?1323365503 re gonna have is fasting glucose. That is given to see the level of the glocuse. Many many women have what you have and is a little bid frustrating because you're gonna need help from a specialist to get pregnant. Clomit is a med. that helps you ovulate, but many women like in my case don't do well on clomit, so your Re has to go on other choices. If your glucose level is high you might take metformin along with clomit. It says it helps better on ovulation than clomit alone.
Avatar f tn Anyone out there suffering from PCOS? i was diagnosed with it 2 years ago and my er thinks thats the reason why i had 2 failed ivfs. please tell me what you know because i was told there is no cure for it. Happy New Year.
Avatar n tn Also I have pcos and am on 850 mg twice a day, also my blood sugar was a little high on the fasting test.
358971 tn?1330888975 I am not that familiar with those test. I had high testasterone and I did a 2 hour GTT- fasting glucose test my doc said they don't look at the glucose they look at the insulin. If your insulin levels are still climbing at the 2 hour mark it means your pancrease is making too much insulin which later can cause you to have diabeties due to it burning out. my doc teats other docs about this disease. You might need to have more test run.
1726450 tn?1316282511 t mention if you were/are gaining weight with the big appetite or not. My first question would be, have you had your fasting glucose tested as well as your A1c level?
Avatar f tn It's very unlikely that you'd be borderline diabetic. Normal fasting glucose is 100, and while you might have used some "rushing" to the pharmacy, I doubt it would have been enough to count. You should get a glucose testing kit from your pharmacy and test your blood sugar before you've eaten or done any physical activity, since activity can reduce blood sugar levels. Test kits are not expensive.
Avatar f tn I was referred by my OB/GYN to a reproductive endocrinologist due to a lack of periods after stopping oral contraceptives. The biggest concern was a lack of ovulation, since we were TTC. I had a few symptoms of PCOS, but not enough to have a firm diagnosis. I am within normal range for weight with no recent fluxuations, no problems with hair loss or acne, no signs of diabetes, insulin resistance, or thyroid imbalances.
330478 tn?1278284916 Over a year ago i had a mass, and a cyst removed from my right ovary and shortly after was diagnosed with pcos. I was without pain for quite some time post-op, now however, i'm finding my body going back to it's old ways (not as bad, but definitely not comfortable). My periods are unbearable, i am currently on a narcotic to help with the pain during my period and just within the last week i have started experiencing night sweats.
Avatar f tn For the dizzy stuff ask him to do a 2 hour GTT test- its a fasting glucose test. they look at you insulin levels. If your insulin levels keep rising in the 2nd hour youve got it.
Avatar f tn what do you think the odds are that i have PCOS being that my fasting glucose is normal and i have always had normal periods like clockwork every single month but at the same time have elevated testosterone, prolactin and excess facial hair??
1574695 tn?1322590597 Your PCP can perform one or more of the following diabetes tests; a fasting test, or an OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test], and the best an A1c test.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms could point to PCOS indeed. Well hormones could show different things, but usually this combination of excessive androgens (and you're likely to have them if you experience hair loss, hirsutism and acne) and excessive insulin. It does look like Cushings also, from what I know about it. Your symptoms could match indeed both but the causes are quite different. The main difference is with the cortisol levels, so if you test for that and are in order than you cannot have Cushings.
Avatar m tn fasting glucose was normal. How can they tell the differences between the thyroid and pcos? I thought birth control was supposed to curb the pcos symptoms.
714128 tn?1249136386 Keeping a healthy weight by eating healthy foods and exercising is another way you can help manage PCOS. Many women with PCOS are overweight or obese. Eat fewer processed foods and foods with added sugars and more whole-grain products, fruits, vegetables, and lean meats to help lower blood sugar (glucose) levels, improve the body's use of insulin, and normalize hormone levels in your body.
