Avatar f tn No stoppage, I continue with my daily schedule as I do a fasting glucose test and an A1c test. The former every 2 months, the latter every 3 months. Are testing your glucose with a home meter? What are your glucose levels preprandial [b4 breakfast] and postprandial [2-3 hrs after a meal]? If your levels remain elevated above normal do not stop the Metformin.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am a thin and highly active 20 year old male who was just recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The diagnosis is weird because I've never had a poor diet, I played sports, and have little family history of the disease. I should mention though that my father has been "borderline" since the age of 12 and now he is 51 and his condition has not changed. I'm not in denial but recently I've been beginning to wonder if I truly have the disease.
1490742 tn?1288600515 Fasting Glucose Test,Fasting Insulin Test,Glucose/Insulin Ratio,Glycohemoglobin A1C (HbA1C). They are all test to check the amout of sugar in your blood. As you are prolly aware of abnormalities of blood sugar and insulin are quite common in PCOS.
Avatar f tn For some people, Metformin can cause glucose [blood sugar] levels to drop too low [hypoglycemia]. This often times happens when Metformin is combined with other diabetes medications, and is more common in elderly folks or folks with internal organ issues. Low glucose also can happen when fasting before surgery or a blood test/s and after lengthy exercise. You should notify your doctor of your low glucose experiences ASAP. Ask your doctor how to adjust your Metformin dose if needed.
Avatar f tn Hello, my doctor found that I have "impaired glucose tolerance". My glucose numbers in tests where above >140 after two hours. He prescribed metformin 500mg (which I have been taking for a year). This week my sugar has been around 72 two hours after eating. And I haven´t felt well. The weird thing is that my glucose numbers are very low, and I still urinate very frequently...why is this???? Why are my glucose numbers so low after eating?.
Avatar f tn I'm glad Metformin is safe for you and working. I went to my dr and she said that Metformin can cause liver damage, but all medications have risks. I'm already on a statin so I'd like to limit the meds, if possible. I'm going to a diabetes management class so I hope to control this with diet and exercise. I've already started by limiting snacks at night. Fasting was 97, 2hrs. after lunch was 99.
Avatar n tn My son is 24 years old and just had a 3 hour fasting glucose tolerance test. His fasting blood was 88, his next count after drinking the sugary liquid was 102, his next two were 69 and 61. It seems like he has hypoglycemia. He was told he has pre-diabetes and given a prescription for metformin 500 mg to take once a day for a week and to increase by a pill a day/week until he would be taking 4 pills/day within a month. Everything I have read says that this is given for high blood sugar.
Avatar n tn I was told to come in for a fasting glucose test, so I did. When the test was done I had not had anything to eat for twelve hours and was famished. I also had a headache that didn't disappear until after I had eaten. To my surprise the blood glucose level came back as high -- 170. How can it be that I was so hungry but the glucose level was high?
Avatar m tn I am suffering with type II Diabetes from the last 1yr and using metformin 500mg twice a day, glucose levels are fasting 140-150 and post is 200 i need to change any medicine, i am walking daily 8km and doing normal excersize

1763947 tn?1334055319 Thanks, yes bedtime is fine. Maybe it is the metformin. Thanks for your help. I am seeing my doc Weds.
Avatar n tn sounds like what you have is Dawn Phenomenon DP when you get up in the morning your liver is being a good buddy and dumping glucose so your body has energy to get up and moving. The problem is your liver is ether dumping to much glucose or your pancreas cant handle what is being dumped . So your BG goes up.
231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.
Avatar f tn What is your hesitation? Some people do get side effects from Metformin (stomach) but many do not. I took it for a year with good effect and no side effects. You might want to talk with your doctor about your concerns. 130 is high for fasting blood sugar. It's a fairly common progression for Type 2 diabetes to need a bit of help from oral meds after a time. Good for you for doing well on the weight loss, diet and exercise!
2091411 tn?1332847723 My father got Diabetes,he used to take Metformin to control his blood glucose but always get a result beyond 8 by eating too much.He recently refused to take Metforminand refused to take test 2h after dinner,he said it would be fine to take a test once a week without eating Metformin and he said it is told by his doctor. Here is my question,is what the doctor said true?Or he will continue to take Metformin ? Second, how often will he take the glucose test? Third, how to prevent lose weight?
Avatar n tn The test is called a glucose fasting test, and yes, you can ABSOLUTELY have insulin resistance and NOT have diabetes or PCOS. My friend lives near Philadelphia and has some of the best doctors in the country (I wish I had her doctors!) and that is her situation so I believe them. Now if it were the doctors I've been dealing with around here, I wouldn't necessarily buy it! ;o) As far as the metformin - are you overweight?
Avatar f tn My grandmother, 75 yrs of age, is a diabetic for past 15-20 years, taking metformin (2g daily) plus insulin (40+35). Where I am from we don't usually give a basal bolus regimen, just 70/30 in morning and evening. She also has history of IHD one year back. Recently, her renal function tests revealed a creatinine of 2.0 (178micromole/L). Her GFR according to MDRD equation is less than 30. This clearly means metformin should be stopped.
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
