Avatar f tn Are testing your glucose with a home meter? What are your glucose levels preprandial [b4 breakfast] and postprandial [2-3 hrs after a meal]? If your levels remain elevated above normal do not stop the Metformin. If you have normal fasting levels [preprandial] and normal postprandial levels notify your doctor of your intentions to stop Metformin 72 hrs prior to the test. Do NOT stop unless your doctor authorizes you to do so.
534105 tn?1226157177 s lab tests, they show signs of glucose handling abnormalities referred to as impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance. They are part of a stage known as prediabetes. Right now the options for your Mom would include changes in dietary and exercise habits to try to bring her levels back to normal (this is usually our first course of action), or starting a drug called Metformin(this is up to your doctor and your mom to decide).
Avatar f tn The A1c provides an insight on your past 2-3 month glucose levels. Red blood cells live on average 2-3 months. Excess glucose rides on new red blood cells, the A1c captures this and provides an estimated three month daily average. " If a result such as 5.8% translates into an "average daily" value of 120 mg/dL, how can 5.8% be considered normal?" An A1c of 5.8% equates to an eAG [estimated daily Average Glucose] of 120 mg/dl, key word is estimated.
Avatar m tn Hi Three months ago I went for a checkup and my GP told me that I have high blood sugar when I am fasting and it is within the normal range during the day. I did Oral glucose tolerance test and it was high something like 12 mmol/Lafter 2 hours. The doctor prescribed Glucophage 750 XR one tablet at night and asked me to limit my food intake from high GI food (Glycaemic Index).
Avatar m tn During routine medical examination (requirement for my job), my fasting blood sugar (13 hours after Dinner) was 116 and random blood sugar (two and a half hours after full breakfast) was 130. With no other complaints, I have not gone to a doctor for medical advice. Do I need medical attention and medication?
Avatar f tn Tingling and numbness can be signs of nerve damage caused by uncontrolled and unmanaged diabetes - excess and unknown glucose levels. Does your husband have a home glucose test meter and is he testing his glucose levels at the appropriate times? More can said about this once we hear back from you. Also, not mentioned is his last A1c test result.
Avatar n tn This past September her fasting glucose was in the 130-140 mg/dl range. She is now below 95 mg/dl fasting and 145 mg/dl postprandial. Everyone caught their diabetes early and were able to reverse it. I don't feel this obtainable with those who have type ii's for years then hope to reverse it, nor even those who are first diagnosed but have skyrocketing fasting glucose high levels say in the 300-400 mg/dl.
Avatar n tn 30 a.m. = 141 2 p.m = 121 and 10:30 p.m. = 110. Now today my fasting ws 105 and 10:30 a.m. = 156. I have tried adjusting my meals and started eating the three small meals for the past few days and it doesn't seem to be helping. My question is do these numbers indicate a problem and when should I seek medical attention?
Avatar m tn You don't say where you live. If you live in the U.S. I'm assuming that was your HA1C? He did labwork and that test checks your average for 2-3 months? You should always ask for a copy of your labwork and an explanation. A good A1C is under 7.0 although some doctors will say up to 7.0 is good. For your daily readings you want to be under 100 if possible at your fasting test and then you want to stay under 140 two hours after your meals.
Avatar m tn Dear Friends, I love building muscles so I have to consume lots of milk, proteins and carbohydrates for energy......? Avatar n tn Hello, To me, I hope that I am wrong, you are likely a pre-diabetic, either type 1 or 2 . Question: Why with a single and random glucose reading at 165, that I conclude such guessing. Answer:It's very simply, a 5th grader can conclude the same thing as I did. Why? Because a non diabetic reading is almost always less then 120, even 1 hr. after meal.
798555 tn?1292787551 History: I posted here in the past, as my fasting glucose was between 100-110 for almost 2 years, per clinic testing. Ac1 was OK but showed a pattern of increasing to the upper part of the acceptable range. So I took action when Drs did not seem to be interested in being pro active. That is the problem with western medicine....wait till its too late. The last few clinic tests showed fasting glucose in the 90's, and my new glucose meter just showed 93 this morning, looking much better.
Tbd Preventive Services Task Force recommends screening for abnormal blood glucose in adults aged 40 to 70 years who are overweight or obese, and repeating testing every 3 years if results are normal. Persons with family history of diabetes or other risk factors should be considered for earlier and more frequent screening.

Avatar n tn If your fasting level is 115 and after you eat is 147 you are ok If your fasting is 147 that is a bit high and I would try to modify my diet Dee
Avatar m tn So I should think the quick drop is normal. The question is how high is your fasting blood sugar and do you ever show symptoms of low-blood sugar. By the way, some people can control type II diabetes with diet alone. If while on your diet your blood sugar starts dropping too fast, see your doctor. He/She may want to reduce your medication.
Avatar f tn In nondiabetic individuals glucose peaks ∼60 min postprandial [after a meal], rarely exceed 141 mg/dl [unless one whacks out on sugar], and return to preprandial [before meal and/or fasting] levels [60/70 to 99 mg/dl] within 2–3 hours.
390388 tn?1279636213 s want hear your prandial (fasting b4 breakfast) and postprandial (2-3 hrs after meal) results. Well, mine does. You probably know this but its worth repeating; some meters require calibrating to the test strip prior to usage or the test readings/results will be inaccurate. Your postprandial of 124 is really good. If you are fasting 8-10 hrs prior to prandial test, you may want to discuss with your doctor why your morning levels are high.
