Avatar n tn Pharmacologic dosages of chromium (200 mcg/day or more for adults) may potentiate the hypoglycemic effect of insulin and oral antidiabetic agents. Chromium appears to play a role in normal insulin function and glucose utilization, and some investigators have suggested that it increases insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance and decreases blood glucose levels in certain diabetics, possibly those with low chromium levels.
Avatar m tn The efficacy of oral hypoglycemic agents and insulin may be diminished by certain drugs, including thiazides and other diuretics, corticosteroids, estrogens, progestins, thyroid hormones, human growth hormone, phenothiazines, atypical antipsychotics, sympathomimetic amines, protease inhibitors, phenytoin, clozapine, megestrol, danazol, isoniazid, asparaginase, pegaspargase, diazoxide, temsirolimus, as well as pharmacologic dosages of nicotinic acid and adrenocorticotropic agents.
Avatar m tn i am 53 yo and is on glucose reduction, cholesterol reduction and blood tension reduction agents. is any of tese agents a direct cause? I was on an antibiotic cure after a tooth implant. could this have been the cause? yet 3 weeks elapsed between the date of cure end and blood test. What need i do? Thank you.
Avatar n tn These drugs may interfere with blood glucose control because they can cause hyperglycemia, glucose intolerance, new-onset diabetes mellitus, and/or exacerbation of preexisting diabetes. MANAGEMENT: Close clinical monitoring of glycemic control is recommended if these drugs are coadministered with antidiabetic agents. Likewise, patients should be observed for hypoglycemia when these drugs are withdrawn from their therapeutic regimen. Dose adjustments of the hypoglycemic agent may be required.
Avatar m tn As insulin resistance progresses, it causes excess glucose to buildup in the blood, which leads to type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is also a risk factor for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, one of the causes of cirrhosis. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, accounting for 90 - 95% of cases. In type 2 diabetes, the body does not respond properly to insulin, a condition known as insulin resistance.
Avatar n tn His Hgb A1C initially was 6 with his glucose at 214 and his 3 month average 135. A year later, he has lost 15 pounds and really is watching his diet. He is not on any oral agent, or insulin. His A1C now was 6.4 with his average 137. He checks his sugars randomly during the day, and they are always below 120. Could he be running high at night for his average to be up? I also know that at times he does check his sugar before bedtime and it's in the 60's.
Monster The Food and Drug Administration has issued detailed guidelines for disposal of the unused or expired medications. Please refer to this link for details on how to dispose of the remaining Warfarin tablets. http://www.fda.gov/forconsumers/consumerupdates/ucm101653.
353348 tn?1209695437 My Doc told me to bring my small disposal boxes to him when they are full and just throw my small box into his very large one. I never asked - I just assumed all patients on tx did that.
Avatar f tn Hospitals pay special charges for disposal as their sharps containers must be handled as a BIOHAZARD. That's the same reason that the needles used in health care facilities usually have a safety guard to cover them after use but the ones we use at home don't. Less danger = fewer and less costly precautions. Sumana's right. Check with your state (or your local trash pick-up provider).
Avatar f tn However, when I stopped her metformin, she developed high blood glucose (9.7 fasting), so now I am not sure what to do? Are oral agents really needed with insulin for glucose control? And if not, how many units am I to increase her morning/evening insulin dose on each adjustment? How frequently to monitor?
211940 tn?1267881266 Hi all, I, like many of you, take medicine in the form of a shot (per syringe), in my case, Rebif. I have been self injecting Rebif now, for about 18 months, the only problem I have, is where to take my used syringes for proper disposal. When I talk to my doctor's office, they suggest my pharmacy, when I talk to my pharmacy, they suggest my health department, when I talk to my health department, they suggest my pharmacy or doctor's office.
Avatar m tn I am not sure. I said on other posts that I thought it might have been novocaine, but there are many other numbing agents out there. I didn't follow through on this, I just accepted the explanation given me by the dental professionals that I spoke to. It could be that I just have a reaction that other diabetics don't have. At any rate, after the injection they knew that I had gone into hypoglycemia and, they knew what to do.
Avatar m tn I got a disinfectant treatment on leg at the ER, but at that time right side of my body contacted with a hazardous disposal box (during operation) it was very small room. They throw away gauze or other things to that box. If there were syringes or needles in that box, and then there was possible contact am I at risk? Actually I didn't feel any pain at that time but when I came back home, I found red spot on my right arm. Im really worried.
907968 tn?1292622204 When my Dad died (congestive heart failure and cancer) he had many bottles of pills left over. I checked with the pharmacy to see if they had a disposal system. They do not because it's too hard to track all the meds that would pour in. What's recommended now (and I hope it changes) is to destroy the pills by grinding or melting down with hot water and then mix them with something unpalatable like coffee grounds or used kitty litter. Bag it all and then toss it in the trash.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the site, but my husband is a diabetic. I have 2 or 3 glucose monitors at my disposal at ant given time. I will definitely check mine in the morning and let you guys know how it looks. Also, I had the salty snack again before bed, and I woke up feeling great! It is 6pm here now and I am feeling very, very fatigued now(could be because I haven't taken Midodrine for 6 hours). I'm trying to follow the doctor's orders on that until I see him on Thursday.
Avatar f tn I took a normal body massage. It was a normal massage with a female therapist. She gave me a disposal panty. She massaged me. Within few minutes she removed the disposal panty and massaged me. She never removed her dress. She did a handshake. I never did a oral, vaginal and anal sex. I never made the female therapist to even undress herself. The only thing she did is a handshake. My question is do i need to test for HIV and other STD.

Avatar f tn When he awoke, the woman grabbed his penis and cut it off with a 10-inch kitchen knife, according to police. She then threw it in the garbage disposal and turned on the disposal, police said. The 51-year-old man was hospitalized at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange. He was listed in serious condition. Pieces of the penis were taken to the hospital, but it remained unclear whether surgeons were able to reattach it. The rope used to tie the man to the bed and a knife were seized as evidence.
Avatar f tn Has anyone decided on cloth or disposal diapers? My son we used disposal. Any suggestions? Second, has anyone had bloating? I eat and I look like I'm 3 months. Only 9 weeks. Anyone else??
Avatar f tn Thank you doctor. The lab tech said that all the tubes for disposal were negative of bloodborne diseases e.g hiv hepab, which was tested for. if its reactive to any dse, it will be sent to main lab for confirmatory, not for disposal. still i am worrying.
Avatar m tn There are many new drugs now in clinical trials. I am going to post some presentation titles and some very concise notes under each title. To view each study/trial results, go to Clinical Care Options, Register (you may have to say you are a doctor or nurse), and then you can read the full articles. They are free. You just have to register. http://www.clinicaloptions.com/Hepatitis/Conference%20Coverage.

8221281 tn?1397570972 *( In a nutshell, glycation is a (non-enzymatic) reaction through which glucose molecules and chemicals derived from glucose, known as aldehydes (collectively we can call them all ‘glycating agents’ for ease of understanding), bind themselves to your intra- and extracellular protein molecules. ie. the protein molecules have become ‘glycated’!) The new structures formed by glycated proteins are called AGEs which stands for Advanced Glycation End-products.
Avatar f tn states of anemia, overactive thyroid, liver cirrhosis, extreme bleeding, and hemolytic reactions due to a variety of potential causes, which it lists (let me know if you want the list)- infectious agents is one of a number of things on the list, for example. The book says it's important to interpret a hemoglobin result not just looking at it, but at other relevant lab info.... have you spoken to a doctor yet about this result? One of the symptoms of anemia can be headache.
