Avatar n tn Thank you for your comment. I should have provided more info but wanted to keep it brief. My weight is good and I do exercise - walking is what I love. There is a history of Type 11 on both sides of my family and I did have gestational diabetes back 40 years ago. And no obesity in family either. About 30 years ago, my mother insisted I be checked for diabetes, given the history.
Avatar n tn First thing you need have on hand is a home glucose test meter. The only way you're going to know how the foods you consumed affected your glucose [blood sugar] levels is by testing, testing, and more testing. Times to test are; fasting - first thing in morning b4 having any food or colored liquids [plain water is OK]. This will tell you how much stored sugar your liver is dumping during sleep hours. Normal levels are 60/70 - 99 mg/dl or 3.33/3.88 - 5.
Avatar n tn Your doctor can see from the blood test results when you return whether the diet change has brought your overall glucose levels down within normal ranges. I hope so, for then all you would need to do is to continue the new lower-carb diet and exercise in order to maintain your health. If you ARE put on medications of any sort, he will probably start having you test more often at home to make sure the dosage is correct.

Avatar f tn I don't have diet advice besides just be smart and try to limit sugars and fats. I had to take the 3-hour test too, but I passed. Don't stress out too much about needing to change your diet because of one blood draw.
Avatar m tn According to my doctor, both, pre-diabetes and type II diabetes are reversed if you can maintain normal blood glucose levels, via diet and exercise, without medication.
Avatar f tn You also have to make a conscious effort towards making lifestyle changes. Making lifestyles changes to ones diet is not awful nor difficult. Instead of trying to figure out what not to eat focus on what you should eat. Avoid white foods [foods made with white flour [breads, crackers], white rice, potatoes, pasta] as these quickly turn into sugar after digestion. Eat quality proteins like fish and fowl, nuts and seeds, beans and legumes, fresh vegetables and small amounts of whole grains.
Avatar f tn I was told I have gestational diabetes I failed my glucose test by being over by 9. I have check my blood 4 times a day. I'm usually in 60s,70,80s,and 90s. My highs are once in a great while being 126 or 138. But the past couple of days I've been getting ridiculous readings. Ate one bowl of special k didn't eat or drink anything other than water checked my blood 2 hours later and got a reading of 159. I haven't done anything different.
Avatar n tn Ive read many problems concerning the Diabetic diet posted on the diabetes website that it hurts the diabetics more than helping them. Is this true? What do you think?
709686 tn?1277432159 If it is Type 1 Diabetes, you are somehow born with a weak pancreas or abnormal hormone system which causes the lack of insulin production. But about 90% of the diabetes patients are of Type 2 Diabetes which is still remain a myth among the Smart Scientists. Type 2 Diabetes is a diet & lifestyle related illness. Most people put the blame on the Sugar and Carbohydrate for the elevated glucose level in the blood.
649848 tn?1534633700 ve had the GTT, my doctor says instead of pre-diabetes, I have Reactive Hypoglycemia... Because of the pre-diabetes diagnosis, I have tried to follow a diabetic diet for some time to prevent full blown diabetes; however, since having this test, I find myself starving and getting weak/shakey within a short period of eating, no matter what kind of food I eat. I also have Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn I am due July 10th my second child. I was told my glucose test came back high. I now have to go to the hospital for the glucose three hour tolerence test. A bit worried, I am hoping it comes back negative so I don't have to worry about having gestational diabetes. Any advice if it does come back positive?
Avatar f tn I do with this pregnancy. Mine is diet controlled. Most likely it will go away after delivery.
6674791 tn?1396215150 Your ob will ask you to talk to a dietitian. They will come up with a diet for you to follow closely. They will teach you how to use a glucose machine. ( pricking your finger and testing your blood sugar ) as long as you control your diet and keep your sugar levels good then all will be good. If diet and exercise doesn't work they will send you to a diabetes doctor. I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy. I controlled it very well.
Avatar f tn Failing the 1 hour glucose does NOT mean you have gestational diabetes. The 3 hr glucose is a better determining factor. I have failed the 1 hour glucose in FOUR of my pregnancies but my 3 hr has always come back normal. With my last 3 hr it came back borderline high but still not diabetes, I was just told to watch my diet and sugar intake. Good luck and don't fret, wait until you get the results from the 3 hr.
Avatar f tn My one hour glucose came back a little high! The limit is 140 and mine came back at 156! I have to go back for the 3 hr one!! I'm concerned, is there a chance I have diabetes???
Avatar f tn Yea they usually give u a few weeks to try to control it with diet and u get sent to a diabetes educator so u learn how and what u should be eating..my plan is 40to 60 carbs a meal and 15 to 30 carbs per snack..so far its been working for me and is not that hard to fallow ..
Avatar f tn I have gestational diabetes and they do check with every urine test to see if you have glucose in your urine. It helps them determine if your body is having issues producing and using insulin. I will tell you glucose will show up in your urine the more sugar you eat so if you are eating a lot of Ben and jerry's that's probably what is doing it. If i go off my diet and eat a few cookies they see the glucose in my urine.
Avatar m tn Glucovance is a well accepted medication used for Type 2 diabetes and will most likely help bring her glucose levels down. Changing dietary habits is crucial to doing well: specific things to avoid include regular sodas, sweet drinks such as sweetened tea and juices, cakes, cookies, candies etc. Try to keep carbohydrates(starches) more complex instead of simple, for instance wheat bread instead of white, brown rice instead of white.
973741 tn?1342342773 A1c gives a better way of monitoring glucose trends than fasting glucose which can still be low / normal even in advanced diabetes. Early detection of diabetes is very important for management and prevention of complications.
Avatar n tn Ketones and proteins in the urine can result from many factors, like excessive exercise, dehydration, high protein diet, kidney problems, and diabetes. Diabetes in the initial stages does not produce glucose in urine. However neither will it bring about ketones and proteins in the urine at an early stage. These are generally the signs of uncontrolled diabetes. You need to check the blood sugar fasting (8-12 hours) and two hours after a proper meal.
