So, prevention or cure is by avoiding alcohol and treating diabetes, obesity and high triglyceride levels. The thinning of the cortex or parenchymal loss of the kidney could be due to causes like prior infections. Ultrasound only assess the structural abnormalities, to assess the functional status you could have a liver and kidney function tests done. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn I think her doc should have advised her to get nutrition info and maybe also use a glucose testing meter. Not sure if she would need meds at this early stage, but he should have spoked to her about everything, in my opinion. Question - should my friend start getting more pro-active about her condition?

Avatar n tn , decreases in capillary densities (vaso obliteration), decreased movments due to obesity are bit indicative on internests in some scattered studies. Glucose and some other substances as sodium are hygroscopic and may attract water in blod lowering blood tonicity. Probably as such, cells of vascular walls may swell and effect transcapillary movements. Athrosclerosis, of arteries, lipids depositions etc. may also have such impact.
Avatar m tn but not high enough to make the diagnosis of diabetes. The tests used to make this diagnosis are blood glucose test and a glucose tolerance test. Has your doctor done either of these? There are no real symptoms of pre diabetes. The symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, thirst, blurred vision, numbness/tingling in the distal extremities, fatigue, slowed healing of cuts, and frequent infections. Peripheral neuropathy is a condition frequently found with diabetes.
Avatar n tn You are doing only 1/3 of what is necessary to control and manage your glucose levels. Maintaining normal body and daily 30-60 minute exercise must be undertaken. As you know, diet alone does not do the trick. You must adhere to all three - diet, weight, and exercise. And, yes, illness can spike glucose levels. I don't know what you mean by "if one can eat more normally by taking Metformin". If you mean return to your old eating habits that created your diabetes, absolutely not.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have been reading a lot lately about the side effects of Seroquel. The one that concerns me the most is the diabetes. I am obese and diabetes runs in my family. Is there another antipsychotic I could take that does not have this side effect? Thank you so much for your time.

If during sleep hours, he needs to check his glucose levels before bedtime and adjust his insulin – if he is on insulin – accordingly. If he is not on insulin, a visit to his doctor is in order. Avatar m tn High cholesterol is associated with high BP and obesity. High BP can cause light headedness as so also obesity due to inability to exercise or work much. Other associated diseases are diabetes and thyroid disorders. Please get a blood glucose fasting and after food. Thyroid is normal. Random glucose level is normal but on lower side. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor and the cause for high cholesterol.

Avatar m tn For diabetics it can go either way. Treatment can cause the blood sugar to go up or down. But if the diabetes is not under good control before starting treatment for Hep C, it lowers your chances of success. Adverse events are also more common on diabetics. I have NEVER seen diabetes go away after treatment. I have seen the blood sugar improve but diabetes disappear? Never.
