1448936 tn?1363206346 The test for lactose intolerance is a hydrogen breath test but there is no reason to do that, all you need to do is to eliminate 100% of all lactose from your diet for 2 weeks and if that helps then you have lactose intolerance and if that doesn't help then you don't have lactose intolerace. It is normal to test for parasites.
Avatar n tn Last week they tested me for Lactose intolerance, fructose intolerance and bacterial overgrowth using the breath tests....bacterial overgrowth was negative, lactose intolerance was negative but fructose intolerance was positive. My control number was 11 and the end number was 44...I was told anything resulting in +20 (so mine would be 31) is positive. Okay, so here are my questions...what does the 44 mean (if anything) low intolerance, high intolerance?
Avatar f tn Check his blood glucose levels and get back to me.
501740 tn?1266691293 one other test you should look at is lactose intolerance test, also, i know i might be over doing it but you should be tested for diabetes and multiple sclerosis, lets hope your also negative for these. God bless.
1099201 tn?1338180918 I just turned 80, and have had some digestive issues, such as nausea, bloating and diarrhea during the last few years, often in connection with my hobby of running ultramarathons, which suggested a late-life onset of lactose intolerance. As an experiment, I started using the chewable lactase supplements (Lactaid, etc.) before meals, and that seems to have taken care of the problem, which seems like prima facie evidence of LI, although I haven't been tested or diagnosed.
Avatar f tn Sorry this is way off of our normal subject, but I was just wondering the signs of lactose intolerance and whether or not you can get this as you get older. I am wondering because I have had abdominal pain for the past about 4 days. And I mean it really hurts. Also my back kind of where my kidneys are. I also get nausea a little and spent this morning vomiting. I went to the doctor and he said I was free of infection, and I am not pregnant so he does not know.
Avatar f tn I never had an issue with dairy till I got pregnant and this is now my third pregnancy and its worse now then its ever been. First it was just milk and ice cream now its other things like cheese. My stomach will hurt and cramp up I get extra saliva in my mouth an my throat starts to feel like I have a lump in it and it causes me to cough. I heard probiotics will help but I'm not gonna try it till after the baby's born.
Avatar f tn as well the tums smoothies ones are much better than the regular tums Ensure or boost type drinks are lactose free and give you about 25% of your daily requirement.. You shouldnt drink more than 1 a day though becasue they are supplemented with vitamin A.... they do make lactose free yogurt, soy cheese etc... as well...
Avatar f tn I have also developed an intolerance to lactose and gluten these past two years. I have eliminated all lactose and gluten from my diet. Lactose intake makes my lymph nodes swell. My question is: Syntroid does contain lactose, and it seems that just that little amount prevents me from stopping the swelling, and feeling better. Could I switch to another thyroid medication? Should I continue on Syntroid, and take some digestive enzymes for lactose at the same time?
Avatar f tn i have lactose intolerance and i am on a diet where i cant eat anything with milk not even if thrs just a little milk in a cookie recipe but lately i have been feeling like throwing up after i take lactaide if i go out i take it i feel like i have the flew but its off and on
Avatar f tn it is terrible under my left rib and i feel a popping and tons of pressure. i have also recently been tested for glucose intolerance and that came back negative also. does anyone have any idea what is wrong with me? i am losing weight like crazy because i have lost all desire to eat.
Avatar f tn Razzle, you may want to consider checking out whether the 'lactose' issue is really lactose intolerance via testing, or could be casein intolerance which is entirely different. Casein is the major protein in milk and many people think they have lactose intolerance when it's not the case at all. It could be due to casein and that produces a different reaction. Lactose problems result from not having the enzyme to digest lactose.
Avatar m tn Hi, 'Signs of a milk allergy that may occur immediately after consuming milk include: * Wheezing * Vomiting * Hives Signs and symptoms that may take more time to develop include: * Loose stools (which may contain blood or mucus) * Diarrhea * Abdominal cramps * Coughing or wheezing * Runny nose * Skin rash It's important to differentiate a true milk allergy from milk protein intolerance or lactose intolerance.

Avatar f tn m pregnant and have a lactose or dairy intolerance. I have to avoid all foods containing lactose etc or I feel sick/constipation/bloated stomach etc. If I continue to avoid these foods throughout my pregnancy can I pass on the intolerance to my baby once it's born? Don't know if I can/should try eating a small amount now and then even if it does make me feel ill?
Avatar n tn m not sure, but check out Tyramine Intolerance and Histamine Intolerance, both of which are similar to each other. This should give you a little bit of insight on what the issues in her diet are. Sugars, gluten, lactose, chocolate, caffeine, etcetera are just some of the common food intolerances associated with Tyramine Intolerance. Here is a very useful website that should help: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?
Avatar m tn So, other possible causes are fructose malabsorption, lactose intolerance and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) - one, two or all three conditions at once. You can start with some elimination diet trials: 1.
Avatar n tn I have an 11-year-old son who was diagnosed with lactose intolerance and acid reflux a few years ago. Over the last two years we have weaned him off his medication and he has not shown any of the classic symptoms associated with either condition. However, from time to time he will have a little yellow mucus spontaneously come out of his anus. No gas, stomach pain, bloating, chest discomfort or anything other than the mucus from the anus.
1422878 tn?1284584593 Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have read a little about the medication and learned that it contains lactose. I am lactose intolerant and am not sure what to do, I have not started taking the drug. Has anyone else here had problems with this medication because of lactose intolerance? I've been suffering from a kind of chronic fatigue and my doctor thinks that by taking Viread I might be able to get back to normal. Any comments or advice would be most welcome.
Avatar f tn I recently had a lactose intolerance breath test and it was negative. However, whenever I have lactose I feel bloated and constipated - more than usual (I have IBS-Constipation Type). Is it possible to not be lactose intolerant and still have difficulty digesting foods containing lactose? .
Avatar f tn s happening the use of some probiotics might be helpful. Lactose could be an issue, and if he used lactose-free products it would be helpful. But if he has problems with diary that continue with the use of something like lactaid, it could be more than just a lactose issue. Some people have problems with the major protein in diary - casein - a true food 'intolerance' or allergy and have to avoid all dairy. Is he having diarrhea, too.
Avatar m tn However another problem could be developing an intolerance to casein, the major protein in dairy. It can cause a variety of symptoms including fatigue and skin issues. You could ask your doc to run some tests, or just avoid dairy in general.
Avatar m tn When intestinal bacteria eat simple sugars glucose - from sweets, fructose - from fruits, lactose - from milk, and maltose from beer, they break them down and produce gas.So, if after this trial, your symptoms will improve, it's possible, you have intestinal bacteria overgrowth. This is tested with a breath test and treated with antibiotics.
1559857 tn?1312845930 s causing lactose intolerance BUT there seems to be a strong correlation between Celiac and casein intolerance. Lactose is the simple sugar of milk and casein is the protein of milk. It does make sense if you think about it.... If Celiac disease is an autoimmune reaction to gluten, (the protein in wheat) then it makes some sense that the protein in milk might also cause issues particularly because both proteins are literally sticky and bind in the small intestines.
