So, adding pure glucose to apple pie to make fructose/glucose ratio 1:1 could help. BUT, it is sorbitol in apples that may spoil this idea. You can't "neutralize" sorbitol. Avatar m tn The biology that I learned said that in humans, the metabolic pathway /breakdown of fructose does not go via glucose formation. Having said that, fructose in excess is still bad because most of it is converted into fat by the body ! Otherwise, I think you offer very good advice. I would also add carbohydrate and calorie counting for better management of diabetes.

Is it at all possible that either the test is inaccurate OR could my stomach be so down and out due to stress...yes I have a lot of it (4 kids and a husband :) )that my stomach was stripped and now needs to heal and then maybe I can tolerate fructose again.

One must make and maintain lifestyle changes in order to control and manage their diabetes and/or help reverse it. Reversing diabetes depends greatly on your unknown glucose levels and how long you've been that way. It depends also on your current body weight and diet.

Avatar n tn You are doing only 1/3 of what is necessary to control and manage your glucose levels. Maintaining normal body and daily 30-60 minute exercise must be undertaken. As you know, diet alone does not do the trick. You must adhere to all three - diet, weight, and exercise. And, yes, illness can spike glucose levels. I don't know what you mean by "if one can eat more normally by taking Metformin". If you mean return to your old eating habits that created your diabetes, absolutely not.
Avatar n tn If your symptoms go away when you eliminate wheat, barley, rye and malt products from your diet...chances are you have some kind of gluten intollerance. I have had the blood test as well as a colonosocpy done to test for gluetn intollerance...both came back negative but when I eat anything containing gluten I suffer terribly. There is a high rate of false/negatives associated wtih the test for celaics disease for several reasons.
Avatar n tn I would guess unrefined sugar and most carbohydrate foods probably cause a bit less of a glucose load in the bloodstream and therefore less of an insulin surge than refined sugar products, and my guess is that there should be a lot of information out there in the diabetes literature. Let us know what you uncover, particularly about the connection between insulin and estrogen.
Avatar m tn Yomike, I strongly suggest you to consider "low-FODMAP diet" (search online). Basically it means avoiding sugars like glucose, sucrose, fructose and lactose ..one or more of these often cause bloating and diarrhea in people diagnosed with IBS.

1666434 tn?1325262350 Yes one of the main problems is she doesn't tell you what is bad for her and she doesn't follow a strict diet like she should to regulate her sugar. From what I read and to my understanding they should eat several small meals no more than 3-4 hours a part. She basically has a bowl of cereal in the morning, then eats around 2 and then if we have a dinner, by that time she is starving so she overeats. Thanks for the resources though I am going to check into these.
