Glucosamine joint repair

Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine joint repair

glucosamine

Avatar n tn s natural glucosamine is used to make and repair joint cartilage, taking glucosamine as a nutritional supplement is thought to help repair damaged cartilage by augmenting the body's supply of glucosamine. This has helped my husbands knee pain and may help you also. Make sure and check with your doctor first though. It is not a prescription drug but it may interfere with other medications so it is best to ask your doctor if you can take it safely.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
20898027 tn?1590467808 I'm not sure it matters, as magnesium won't repair a rotator cuff separation. No supplement will. If you take too much magnesium bit itself, be careful, because taking too much can leach the calcium out of your body so if you do supplement with it do it with knowledge. Magnesium can relax muscles if you have cramping problems, and along with calcium it helps build strong bones, but you are talking about something else here.
689367 tn?1227469139 I have also been told that glucosamine (Joint supplements) is not good for your eyes and could elevate pressure. How true is that?
Avatar m tn s fish oil with enhanced DHA and EPA (15 grams daily), megadose vitamin E, and megadose glucosamine+chondroitin+MSM daily for anti inflammatory effects for my joint and tendon problems. I am looking to treat trauma of the brachial tendon to treat pain during bicep workouts by using a glucosamine cream. I have heard anecdotally that the cream format increases bio-availability by a staggering amount and that the oral supplement is essentially a snake oil product.
Avatar f tn I purchased some rather pricey vitamins which have no expiration dates. It's an individualized system where I'm to take Magnesium Glycinate, Glucosamine Sulfat, Joint Support, and CoQ10 30 mg in the morning packets and Magnesium Glycinat, Glucosamine Sulfat, Heart Formula, and Joint Support in the evening packets. Because these were so expensive I'd prefer to not throw them out; however, I've had them for over 3 years now. Since there is no date...can I still use them?
Avatar m tn Joint pain is pretty common for Hep C carriers. Is anyone using this supplement to reduce joint pain? Is it effective? Any counter indication? Thanks in advance!
1652468 tn?1302900498 There are many natural antiinflammatories. Some have been mentioned. None will cure arthritis per se, but if you're one of the lucky ones, if you can control the inflammation, the body can repair itself. Proteolytic enzymes, those that digest protein (most well known is bromelain, but there are formulas such as Inflazyme by American Biologics and Woebenzyme) help to digest the crust that forms around inflammation so nutrients can get back to the spot and repair it.
1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.
Avatar m tn Some patients swear by the joint supplements, such as chondroitin, hyaluronic acid, and glucosamine. There is some anecdotal evidence that these may help thicken the cartilage, but no strict research has ever shown this to be true.
Avatar n tn It is very common for dogs 13 years or so to have degenerative joint disease (arthritis). The parts are just wearing out. The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary.
398377 tn?1201534325 Can you give your dog that joint medicine that's for people as long as you get the dosage/weight right?
Avatar f tn His front leg angles out at the middle joint, and is very painful to him. I tried DVM Feline Joint Gel two years ago, but stopped because he would throw up after taking it. Our vet says you can't give a cat pain meds because it affects their kidneys. I've been giving him massages, and he loves it, but cries when I pick him up Before I try the Bayer Joint Gel again, is their anything different anyone has had any luck with for arthritis?
1110049 tn?1409402144 I have been doing this, but I am not sure it is doing any good. The worse pain is now in a thumb joint, and keeps me awake at night. AS small join t with a lot of pain? Is Glucosamine a placebo? Does it work? Well perhaps there is no scientific evidence for a lot of things, but that does not mean they don't work.
1327032 tn?1288840755 Wow I have to say I have been pretty much sx free and today my knee joint started acheing bad! I put a benjay like patch on my knee tonight. I hope that is ok on tx what else can I do to make it feel better?
Avatar f tn I also have arthritis in my fingers, which is getting worse. A friend advised me to take glucosamine but considering it is made from the shells of sea creatures I wonder whether it contains iodine. Does anyone know if it would effect the thyroxine?
Avatar f tn There are a number of possible reasons for this to happen, though really only a doctor can diagnose you. I would look into taking glucosamine pills for now to help with joint pain and see if it helps at all. I'd make another doctor's appointment to get your hand looked at and see what they say. It could be from a genetic condition, from trauma, or from a malformation in growth, among some other possible reasons. I hope you can get some answers soon.
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. N-acetyl glucosamine is prescribed because of joint pain, I believe. There is no direct evidence I can find which shows a causation between n-acetyl glucosamine and lower blood sugars. Likely the lower insulin requirements you're seeing are because your son's body is under less stress, so his blood sugars are lower.
Avatar n tn what supplements should i take for joint pain especiallly creaking neck pain would oils help ?cod liver oil?
1310435 tn?1273598077 not that this can replace medical treatment for pain and arthritis, but glucosamine is great for helping with joint pain - it helps lubricate the joints and build new cartlidge. My mother in law swears by it for her arthritis, so it might help you out. Jamieson vitamins (canadian company, but they now sell to the US at www.jamiesondirect.com) makes shellfish free glucosamine products (great if you have an allergy or are worried about contaminants). Hope you get some relief!
Avatar m tn I know that there is a herbal medicine that has shown effective cure for reducing joint inflammations caused by arthritis. As, I know ginger is the best herbal medicine for arthritis, the use of ginger is unknown to me. If anyone having idea on it, then please suggest me. Thanks a lot!
