Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories such as Rimadyl or Previcox do help with joint pain and work to decrease inflammation which can further help to deteriorate joints. Other medications such as Tramadol work with NSAIDS to help make them even more effective. Nutraceuticals such as glucosamine (which she is already taking) and Omega 3 Fatty acids also help adjunctively.
No glucosamine/chondroitin will not do that. I hope it does as much for your knees as mine which have been pain free for over a decade since I started taking them It took about 3 months but I went from constant pain to no pain.
There are a number of possible reasons for this to happen, though really only a doctor can diagnose you. I would look into taking glucosamine pills for now to help with joint pain and see if it helps at all. I'd make another doctor's appointment to get your hand looked at and see what they say. It could be from a genetic condition, from trauma, or from a malformation in growth, among some other possible reasons. I hope you can get some answers soon.

I understand your hesitancy to take Meloxicam. Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and fever reducer effects. It's often used in Arthritic and inflammatory conditions. However any NSAID comes with concerns - including OTC NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen.
Several years ago Glucosamine & Chondroitin was popular with medical providers. It was hailed as the new and one of the best "treatments" for restoring cartilage and reducing pain.
I was diagnosed with Basal Joint Arthritis in both thumbs on Nov. 5, 2009. The doc said the cartilage is not completely gone but there is not much left. I have swelling and when I move my thumbs a certain way, I feel ALOT of pain. The doc injected cortisone (which hurt tremendously). He said I was too young to have surgery (I am 52) so we will continue with the shots. After 4 days the shot is not working anymore. Is there some supplement or something I can take to rebuild the cartilage?

I have an 18 year old daughter who has been suffering from joint pain for about 3 and a half years now. Her pain started in one knee and gradually over time has extended to her other knee, hips, ankles, shoulders, and lower back.
She has seen many doctors, has had x-rays, MRIs, and one arthroscopy surgery on her knee. She has soft cartilage in her knees. She tried taking glucosamine but found no relief after 6 months so she stopped taking it.
She cries to me almost every night.
5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
s very important to work closely with your doctor (preferably an orthopedic doc for OA) in regards to PT, medication and other therapies and also work very closely with them in monitoring when/if the pain and limitation of movement, strength, etc., interfere enough in your daily life to warrant a major surgery.
It's impossible to tell you what the operation would entail as it depends on the type of operation you might need and which joint/s it encompasses.

Hi, does anyone know if glucosamine helps with degenerative discs in spine? i know it helps arthritis, but I'm at my wits end with some bulging discs (l4 l5 and s1) and thought i may give it a go.
Any views or would i be wasting my money?
