Avatar m tn Nothing was found on X-Rays, blood work and urine except for Kidney Disease which he now on food just for that. Vet says best way is to bring him to a specialist for an MRI to see why there is extensive atrophy on his right leg compared to his left leg. I am debating on the MRI for him. I was wondering what would cause strong muscle atrophy on one leg and why when I touch it he is very sensitive between the upper part of his knee. No arthritis has been found and bones are very good.
Avatar m tn Non steroidals such as Rimadyl are not to be used in kidney patients but depending on how high the kidney values are, I, on occasion will use them if we get a considerable response. We will monitor kidney values via blood tests and decide if the benefits outweigh the risks. At 14 there could be other issues for the poor appetite and if the kidney values are elevated, Sable should be on an acid reducer such as zantac. I wish you and Sable well.
2025701 tn?1328919633 Hopefully you will cure the cause of your liver disease and stop the progression of your liver disease. If not, as you know, most people wait many years for a liver transplant as their disease progresses and then get sicker and sicker. Although we hate to think about it, cirrhosis can be a fatal disease. I really face that when I was diagnosed with liver cancer 21 months ago. When cirrhotic the only cure is a liver transplant before the cancer become unmanageable.
Avatar n tn I would certainly give him a Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement. I give my dog 500mg Glucosamine plus 200mg Chondroitin, and she weighs 28lbs. She had a broken legf years ago, and very occasionally got a twinge and a slight limp. Since starting the Glucosamine....within a few days!! she did not show any discomfort at all, and has not shown signs of twinges yet. Apparently it works better alongside vitamin C.
Avatar f tn Daily subcutaneous fluid administration is the single most important factor in canine kidney failure therapy. Generally, in dogs like yours, we see a reduction of BUN and Creatinine levels within 30-60 days of proper kidney therapy. Natural canine vitamin supplements offering balanced, comprehensive levels of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants would be very helpful.
Avatar m tn It is hard on your stomach but also can cause kidney issues. In talking to a nephorologist (msp? -kidney Dr.) she said that they have wanted that disclosure put on such meds. Every drug has something bad about it but one definetly has to try a pick the lesser evil. Talk to a pharmacist & then talk to your Dr. Take care!
Avatar f tn These two products are not similar at all and should not be substituted. If your cat is not in kidney failure then Renalzin would not be indicated. Aluminum hydroxide, rather than Renalzin is the phosphate binder of choice to eliminate excess phosphorus in cats with chronic kidney failure.
19691093 tn?1488194069 By coincidence, my own rescued lurcher, named BB (yes honestly) is why I started to learn about canine kidney disease many years ago. Sadly, BB is no longer with me, but her legacy lives on in every message I make, which is now scores every day on so many websites. I think your vet has got some things right - and some things wrong. But do remember I am not a vet, so it's up to you who you listen to and what actions you take. I think he could be right about fluid therapy.
Avatar n tn My dog saw a holistic vet in January for a severe ear infection, before then he was able to walk (40 min.) twice a day. He took a whole course of Baytril right before his blood test was taken and a month ago he got some antibiotic eardrop efloxacin. The vet suspected that he might have arthritis and Cushings because he was urinating more often in the evenings, had a ravenous appetite and his blood test indicated high potassium level.
1358341 tn?1282209843 Vets still live by the old standard of a prescription kidney diet which is low in protein and in phosphorus but more recent research indicates that too low of protein actually causes muscle wasting and supposedly shortens the life span of a CRF cat.(this is what I read so you be the judge). I believe that a good quality canned cat food such as Wellness no grain in Turkey, Merrick canned cat foods are acceptable for cats with kidney impairments. Azydol (sp?
1395422 tn?1308016251 Hello. My dog is 4 years old, I've had him since he was 8 weeks. Starting within the past year he sometimes poops in his sleep, like, in my bed. I know, gross right? It's not diarrhea, completely normal stools. It just happens when he's dreaming and it's not an entire pile, maybe just one or two pieces. He eats a clean diet which used to be Nutros Natural Choice, but then my Vet. told me to switch to something without Glucosamine in it.
Business man2 I try to have my patients take very little daily ibuprofen/naproxen as they can lead to kidney disease (based on total lifetime dose), high blood pressure (meloxicam) and stomach ulcers. Also, the anti-platelet effect of aspirin (which is how it prevents heart attacks) is reduced when taken with daily ibuprofen/naproxen. I hope this helps!
Avatar f tn I take 100 mcg of synthetic thyroxine daily for hypothyroidism. I also have arthritis in my fingers, which is getting worse. A friend advised me to take glucosamine but considering it is made from the shells of sea creatures I wonder whether it contains iodine. Does anyone know if it would effect the thyroxine?
Avatar n tn Hi, does anyone know if glucosamine helps with degenerative discs in spine? i know it helps arthritis, but I'm at my wits end with some bulging discs (l4 l5 and s1) and thought i may give it a go. Any views or would i be wasting my money?
Avatar f tn Our female German Shepherd is in the final stage of kidney disease. Has been eating very little, mostly only a few favorite snacks, and some hamburger. Will no longer eat chicken or her prescription food. Gets a little energetic but then sleeps most of the day. she has been having tremors for about a week and they are getting worse. She drinks very little, does not see well. I have put her on a heating pad (medium heat with a blanket over her) on her bed or a rug.
4190741 tn?1370177832 If your cat is being treating with MetacamĀ®, it is important to make sure that your cat does not become dehydrated and is not suffering from kidney disease. If your cat begins to vomit, stops eating or develops diarrhea while taking MetacamĀ®, discontinue the medication and contact your veterinarian immediately.
Avatar n tn She has done really well with the insulin shots but in the past few weeks, she seemed to have a lot of pain in one of her back legs, she also had a droopy eye, but has cataracts and is almost completely blind. The vet couldn't find anything broken, but gave her a pain pill. She seemed to do a little better, but the past few days has slipped again. She whimpers in pain when she has to pull herself up to stand.
Avatar n tn The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories such as Rimadyl or Previcox do help with joint pain and work to decrease inflammation which can further help to deteriorate joints.
Avatar n tn He sent for a course of Physiotherapy which I attended for 6months. In the end I stopped going because after the initial mild improvement in pain there was no further improvement. I am taking 1500mg Glucosamine Sulphate + 1200mg Marine Chondroitin + 1000mg Omega 3 fish oil daily. Despite this the symptoms have now spread to my right hip, right shoulder and slight symptoms in my right knee. I get some relief from taking 400mg of Ibuprofen at night so I can sleep.
Avatar m tn She no longer gets around well due to right hip displasia and recently had a knee injury on the same leg. She is currently in alot of pain and will not get up at all. Income is limited but I would like to know if any one can tell me about cost and success rate of surgery.
8793709 tn?1409594060 Please get your vet to undertake a full blood check as soon as possible, as the poor eating is one symptom of severe and late stage kidney disease which is worth discounting earlier rather than later. Late stage kidney failure is a rapidly deteriorating condition that needs urgent management. If the kidney function proves okay, then there are many other potential issues this could be - and not just old age - many of these potential conditions are treatable to an easier or less easy degree.
Avatar m tn I am 77 years and have a simple cortical cyst of size 20 mm in the lower pole of my left kidney. my globulin is 4.4 gm/dl,Total proteins 8.5. Always feel tired. Bad odor in urine. Heavy head most of times. Pain in right back. Pain in both knees and the hand finger joints. indigestion with gas. Bouls not free and clear. Kindly suggest medical treatment.
