Avatar m tn My father came from Vietnam and is 80 yrs old. His blood pressure fluctuates so much that his doctor would not permit him leaving town visiting his family. So, he is miserable and depressed. Would you please help? Thanks. His blood pressure fluctuates from 120/70 then 190/94 (3-4PM). So, he takes 1/2 of Clonidine HCL (0.1mg) then it drops to 58/47... eventually it comes back to 120/70 at night.
Avatar f tn He may not have the enzymes to utilize the Glucosamine like he did before the gastric tube. Glucosamine Hcl is cheaper and it is harder for the body to utilize than the higher quality Glucosamine sulfate. With that being said, Glucosamine sulfate is commonly use in people who have GI problems because it helps to protect the mucus membranes and heal injuried tissue. It is a very important supplement in IBS, Chrones disease, ulcers etc., I feel really bad for you and your dad.
1093971 tn?1257833640 If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar. The consensus, however, is CAUTION and only take glucosamine under the supervision of your doctor, especially if you have diabetes. And be sure to talk with your local pharmacist about potential drug interactions with other medications. Some reports have taking glucosamine to relieve arthritis may cause a rise in blood sugar levels.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.

351404 tn?1299489130 Hello. First: About calcium supplements, the blood needs a carefully adjusted amount of sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium (and a few other minerals) in order for the cells to function and create movement. An example is why you get thirsty after eating a high-salt meal (rich in sodium). The body needs more water to thin out the concentration of sodium. Avatar f tn if part of my stomach is through the diaphragm causing increased pressure in my esophagus and stomach, would that cause this weird gas trapping? Sometimes I have to create negative pressure in my throat to release it, and I know we have no conscious control of our cardiac sphincter but sometimes it feels like it comes from way deeper and makes me feel the need to gag or even throw up.

Avatar f tn Some medications are much stronger than others, and low blood pressure is much more dangerous, in my opinion, than short term high blood pressure. Low blood pressure will cause you to pass out. I know that from experience, with some bad results. None of us are doctors here, but it usually takes years for high blood pressure to cause problems with your blood vessels. I'd ask your doctor to start with low doses blood pressure medications and work up.

Avatar n tn Apple cider vinegar is a way to cleanse the body and balance acid and alkaline, but it doesn't increase stomach acid on a permanent basis. Betaine HCL is used for gallstones, not for stomach acidity, since it doesn't do that either. The reason is that neither stays in the stomach, so it can't permanently alter the acid/alkaline balance. The caution about HCL is more about using pure HCL food grade.

Avatar n tn Both of these medications you described are stimulants and can cause an increase in your heart rate and blood pressure. They can also make you more susceptible to irregular heart rhythms. The pain radiating down your arm you describe is somewhat concerning. I'm not sure of your age or if this has happened more than once, but if this happens often please tell your physician. It sounds as if you're very sensitive to these two medications and you may do better with alternatives.

Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Majority of cases of hypertension are due to primary cause, where the cause is not known. Secondary causes are due to renal diseases and endocrine disorders. You can check with your doctor to rule out the secondary causes. Also, as people age the incidence of atherosclerosis increases. Blood vessels are narrowed most commonly due to atherosclerosis, a disease where the 'fatty' material in the blood gets deposited in the walls of the blood vessels.
