Glucosamine and kidney function

Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine and kidney function

glucosamine

Avatar f tn If you wish to try it make sure you are not allergic to shell fish (glucosamine) or MSM (from pine tree bark) or Arnica ( arnica montana flower). You can buy MSM and arnica lotions separately and there is a glucosamine product that is made from corn but it is expensive. I am also taking vitamins which seems to be helping too.
Avatar m tn I know things like glucosamine and missing link can be helpful. I also believe German shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia if I remember right. An orthopedic bed and keeping your dog sleeping indoors may also help.
Avatar m tn There are also natural herbal kidney products that we have wonderful results with in our older canine patients with kidney failure that have helped their kidney values; BUN and Creatinine and kidney function return to normal. I hope this is somewhat helpful and would be glad to discuss this in detail. Feel free to contact our office.
Avatar m tn Nothing was found on X-Rays, blood work and urine except for Kidney Disease which he now on food just for that. Vet says best way is to bring him to a specialist for an MRI to see why there is extensive atrophy on his right leg compared to his left leg. I am debating on the MRI for him. I was wondering what would cause strong muscle atrophy on one leg and why when I touch it he is very sensitive between the upper part of his knee. No arthritis has been found and bones are very good.
398377 tn?1201534325 i just had her to the vet a few days ago they charged me $75 to tell me "She looks great!" :) (she has come along way) i'm very happy to hear that. They asked about kidney function - which i had tested at the other vet's office and was fine. I didn't mention anything about the peeing (i forgot). We talked about her slipping patellas - doc said just watch it for now and i could try some joint medication.
Avatar n tn Hence if both ankles are swelling then you will need to get heart function assessed by ECHO and EKG, get kidney and liver function tests done and get a complete blood picture for anemia. Low sodium in blood, hypothyroidism and malabsorption syndromes causing low protein in blood have to be looked into. Please ask your sibling to contact a doctor. Meanwhile the legs should be kept raised as much as possible. Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted.
Avatar n tn my bun is 63 and my creatine is 8.02 and im 60 yrs. old.
351404 tn?1299489130 About calcium supplements, the blood needs a carefully adjusted amount of sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium (and a few other minerals) in order for the cells to function and create movement. An example is why you get thirsty after eating a high-salt meal (rich in sodium). The body needs more water to thin out the concentration of sodium. We carry almost 1 kg (= 2+ pounds) of calcium in the bones, but the concentration of calcium in the blood is very low (approx. 10 mg pr dl.
2025701 tn?1328919633 NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), like Advil (ibuprofen) can also be dangerous to take because they can cause internal bleeding and kidney failure. Aspirin can destroy platelets faster than the body can make them. All benzodiazepines can harm the liver. Tell your doctor about all of the supplements you take. Many of these can have side effects and interact with each other, and with many medicines. This could end up hurting your liver.
Avatar f tn Cystease is a product that contains 125mg of glucosamine. Renalzin is sold as a phosphate binder and according to the label to be used for feline kidney failure patients. Renalzin contains Lanthanium carbonate as the primary ingredient along with Kaolin and Vitamin E. These two products are not similar at all and should not be substituted. If your cat is not in kidney failure then Renalzin would not be indicated.
1326572 tn?1275500911 My liver and blood count look great but my doc said my kidney function is slightly off. The creatinine is high at 1.09 and the GFR is low at 54. I was occasionally taking ibuprofen but have stopped completely now. I'm also on mtx, folic acid, norco for pain and also xanax. The doc said she wasn't too worried but she wants to watch it. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of thing.
1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar n tn You can progress very rapidly to NO kidney function and be on dialysis and having to wait for a kidney transplant. And we all know how that one goes--there is a shortage of transplantable kidneys and they go to the people who have been on the list the longest. So get to a kidney doctor now!
Avatar m tn It is hard on your stomach but also can cause kidney issues. In talking to a nephorologist (msp? -kidney Dr.) she said that they have wanted that disclosure put on such meds. Every drug has something bad about it but one definetly has to try a pick the lesser evil. Talk to a pharmacist & then talk to your Dr. Take care!
8793709 tn?1409594060 s also on many meds (glucosamine etc) and occasional steroid shots from the vet. we visit the vet almost every week, either for a check up and meds, for aqua therapy, to have his rectum cleaned, for a furr-trimming, etc. lately, his appetite has declined and it takes hours to make him eat. sometimes it helps to crumble a boiled egg over his food. but even that he refuses to eat at times. is this a sure sign of old age? I heard dogs stop eating before they die? I hope this is not the case.
Avatar f tn When Dad is in heart failure he needs additional dosages of diaretics. Too much diaretic can effect kidney function and too little will effect heart function. We did see a kidney specialist concerning this, and the primary care physician is in communication with him. Dad also has vascular dementia. I know how hard dealing with memory loss can be for both patient and family. I will keep you all in my prayers.
Avatar m tn and creatinine is very poor test for kidneys function, for example body builders can have high creatinine but everything is fine...it is too dependent on muscles and many with kidneys damage never get it abnormal much better all the other tests by the way hbv damages kidneys too, it can infect kidneys but not replicate there.

689367 tn?1227469139 I have also been told that glucosamine (Joint supplements) is not good for your eyes and could elevate pressure. How true is that?
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
Avatar n tn Two normal kidneys account for 100% of kidney function. A single kidney provides about 50% of kidney function. One can lead a normal life with one kidney as long as the single kidney remains healthy. When kidney function drops to less than 50% of normal, the risk of health problems increases. Serious health problems are more frequent when kidney function drops to below 20%. Dialysis or transplant is necessary if kidney function falls to 15% or below.
