glucosamine

1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.
Avatar n tn To start, you feed 2 chews in the am and 2 in the pm for one entire container. Then, taper to one chew in the am and one in the evening. He loves them and he's been normal ever since. They can get pricey, but it's worth the health for your dog. The osteo bi-flex can't be digested properly, it doesn't have the amount of vits they need, and it's just a waste of money. Use them for yourself and try they phycox. We've been using it for 2 years now.
Avatar n tn I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
6669309 tn?1462648142 Arthritis is very common in older dogs and the longer dogs live the more common it is becoming. Nutritional supplements Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate are two substances that have fast become the standard treatment in canine age-related arthritis. These are often sold as a single combined substance in good pet shops and quality supermarkets. Alternatively, just look up "Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate for dogs" on Google and you should find a supplier.
675347 tn?1365460645 s very hard for her to get up on things anymore and get up the stairs. I have 1500 mg glucosamine and 1200 mg conjoint and pills. I would like to start giving it to her but I don't know how much is safe. Should I do one 1500 mg pill two times a day? Or 1500 mg pill once a day? I'd like to start giving it to her in the morning. I can't seem to find much information online.
Avatar f tn When daily oral doses of up to 2700 mg/kg were given in the rat and 2100 mg/kg in the dog for one year and six months, respectively, no anatomical lesions were found in the gastrointestinal system or other organs. The dose given to the dogs would be equivalent to 150,000 mg in a 70 kg human. Most of the recommended dosages for patients with arthritis are about 500 mg three times a day.
Avatar f tn s a liquid mix of glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin, along with MSM and some shark cartilege?? if I remember correctly. It's a slim, white plastic bottle with a yellowish label which reads Next Level - it just plain works!. There seem to be the equine and dog stuff available on the net, but I suggest you get the one meant for dogs alone. It will take a month or 2 before you notice a difference. Here's something that may be of interest to you. http://www.glucosamine-arthritis.
Avatar f tn My dog is 12 year old and has arthrits and the vet told me to use glucosamine. In the summer time he does not need it. Now my dog is whimpering and shakeing, when I pet him he stops. This started a couple of days ago. The weather got really cold fast and I just started him back on glucosamine. Does this sound like the arthrits acting up or do I need to worry? How much glucosamine can I give him? I hate when my dog is in pain, I have had him since I was in kindergarden.
Avatar f tn Certainly lameness and leg pain in older dogs is most often caused by degenerative joint disease and arthritis occurs however there are many other possibilities. A confirmed diagnosis always improves treatment outcome. You mentioned when your dog gets up afetr lying down his starts to limp? As a general rule (dont bet on it but the odds are in your favour) when I see lameness after rest I think of soft tissue injuries.
Avatar f tn for instance if he weighs twice that, give him 2 capsules, that would be 1000mg Glucosamine and 400mg Chondroitin) It has worked wonders for her, as she was starting to develop arthritis in a leg which was once broken, when she was 4 years old. I have not seen her limp or favour that leg even ONCE since I started her on the tablets about 18 months ago. If he doesn't like taking pills, you can open these and sprinkle the contents on your dog's food. They taste pretty bland, not bitter.
Avatar m tn The vet said she would probably grow to develop arthritis in that leg, and it did seem things might be going that way, as any change in the weather to dampness, had her 'hitching' up that leg sometimes. Since starting the Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement, she has not even done that once! My dog weighs 28lbs and the maximum dose for her is 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin. I give her one capsule with the 2 combined, with that dosage every day.
Avatar n tn NSAIDS (Rimadyl, Metacam, Previcox, and others), plus Tramadol, and Amantadine, and Chondroprotective agents (Glucosamine and Chondroitin combinations). Acupuncture is also very effective, as is Stem Cell therapy. She should also be checked for Lyme disease and other tick borne disease that affect joints. All her painful joints should be X-Rayed because some joints may require surgical correction or stabilization. .
Avatar n tn It's very difficult to say what this is. Has it always been the case, or has it developed recently? Has there been any injury, even a past injury, to the legs or spine, or is he on any medication (apart from the glucosamine)? Hopefully there will yet be more advice from others who may have a better idea. I have seen dogs (usually Jack Russells) who 'trembled'. Healthy, energetic and happy dogs, those were. Nothing wrong with them.
Avatar n tn Has anyone tried using n-acetyl glucosamine in conjunction with their normal insulin regamin (UCI study in August showed it might help)? My 10 year old type 1 diabetic son (diagnosed in 2002) has been taking 3 mg of n-acetyl glucosamine each day for 3 months, and we have seen a reduction in the amount of insulin he needs of about 10 % and a "evening out" of his blood sugars.
558059 tn?1288550944 Hi I have a 8 1/2 year old GSPointer . On recent visit to vets I was advised to put her on Glucosamine & Chrondrotin . She has been on them for 6 weeks now but I haven't noticed any improvement in her general movements. Is it advisable to keep her on these tablets now that I have started. Also could cod liver oil be of benefit to her? She is not good at taking these tablets but loves the c of o capsules!
441382 tn?1452810569 s formulated in a preparation for dogs, or people. And Chondroitin is the same. I believe they are both natural substances obtained from shellfish. The difference lies in what other things might be added, and the dosage levels. So I hunted round to find a capsule which ONLY contained Glucosamine/Chondroitin, and no other additives. Then I calculated the dosage for her of both. She weighs 28 lbs approx. Her dosage is (max.) 500mg. Glucosamine, and 200 Chondroitin.
436837 tn?1293793226 Please do try a Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement daily. It might have very very good results. I know for a fact it has with my dog. She had a broken leg years ago (in her past life before I rescued her) Since then she has limped, and 'hitched' that leg from time to time, especially when the weather turned damp and cold. I started her with the supplement a few months ago in the Spring. I have not looked back! For testimony, she is leaping over hurdles 3-4 feet tall!
Avatar f tn I read somewhere that blackstrap molasses works wonders for arthritis pain in dogs. I also heard of extra virgin coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. I am really tempted to mix all these and give it a try. Has anyone tried these? or are there any other natural remedies? My dog has been on metacam but it doesn't work very well, I can tell she is still in pain. My dad keeps telling us to just put her to sleep so she can rest and not be in pain anymore.
Avatar n tn If there are no other symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. I'd have to say that: Because of her age & the weather is turning colder, this could be Arthritis of her Spine and/or legs..... She does need to be checked out by your Vet as he/she can recommend the appropriate supplements & pain management for your girl... Dogs hurt just like we do.....However, they CANNOT take over the counter supplements as we can.....
Avatar m tn Oh I am so sorry, both that you lost your well-loved Terrier, and that your Dalmation has taken it so badly. Grief and missing a loved companion is natural in dogs, but I can understand why you are worried, when it has this effect. Yes, depression can cause physical decline, but even an old dog who has got sad and down, that she feels her age, and has aches and pains, can maybe be cheered up. I don't really know about how wise it would be to get another dog in.
Avatar n tn s up to you and your vet what to give to your dog. We also prefer holistic medicine and fed our dogs rice and chicken and a lot of fish and/or fish oil which are good for the joints. Sometimes, however, we just have to give in and use mainstream meds. Anything that is best for our dogs. Have you tried UBAvet? It has all natural ingredients and we also use fish oil with Omega 3, which the dogs love because it smells so bad. Hope Dr. Cheng has some good answers for you.
Avatar f tn Enteric Coated aspirin is NOT good for dogs. It is not digested and can build up in their system causing toxicity.
