Avatar f tn I took birth-control pills so that I can have a normal period but then my Doctor prescribed me to take Glucophage 500 mg twice a day after food but it has side effects like dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure and diarrehea... I went to pharmacies and asked about the medicine ( Glocophage), they say its good but it is not making me feel good. The last pharmacy I went to suggested that I should take Glucophage XR. I still didnt take it, Im still using Glucophage.
194838 tn?1303428544 Hi, I am taking Glucophage (slow release Metformin) and have just been prescribed Januvia to take also. I have had stomach pains and upset stomach since being on them, the plus side is that I have lost weight so am very happy about that but wondered if anyone else has experienced the stomach pain and if so how long did it take for it to subside. If anyone has any advice etc I would be so grateful.
256553 tn?1258883918 I also have pco and have been metformin 1000 mg a day but it made me feel very sick all the time so I am now on the metformin extened release pills and they are 10 times better and do not have all the side effects of the regular metformin so you may want to talk to your doctor and see if he can give you those.
Avatar n tn To minimize the side effects of the medication, it is recommended to take the pills with meal or after meal. This helps to distributes the medication better in the body and therefore decrease side effects. Also sometimes, the medication does take at least 2 weeks for the body to get use to it. if side effects persist for more than 2 weeks, should talk to your health care provider about it as you might not be able to tolerate it.
Avatar m tn We prefer to keep her off glucophage as long as possible due to the possible side effects and not wanting another drug in her system at 83. What are people's thoughts on the benefit/need for meds at her current a1c level? 3. Her doctor shares very little info and when I went with her, he was angry when I asked questions. I found a better doctor but she is resistant to change although she doesn't like him - any ideas on how to persuade her? 4.

1039061 tn?1257878294 I know that Glucophage is used for diabetics, but are there other uses, such as this? Any help would be appreciated!!!
475740 tn?1208262865 I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I really want to lose weight and I know I gotta take the Metformin but it makes me very nauseous. The diarrhea I can handle but not the nausea, so I haven't been taking it. I see an endocrinologist Wednesday. I was wondering if there's an alternative to Metformin/Glucophage without the nausea side effects. If there's not how long does it take until you get used to the side effects?
Avatar n tn Correction: meant to say indigestion not 'ingestion'.
Avatar n tn However, in these small studies, they have found promising results in lessening the pain and bleeding episodes from endometriosis treated with arimidex. I would also just like to caution on the possible side effects of these drugs such as bone pains or fractures. Regards.
Avatar m tn My doctor prescribed for me GLUCOPHAGE 500 twice daily but the side effects of this medicine were terrible and so i stopped it. I tried to walk for 1/2 hour daily and to avoid sugars but my problem is that i eat alot of bread and rice. Please advise me what foods to avoid and if there is an alternative to GLUCOPHAG.
623922 tn?1223406991 I have no side effects. I have only been on the meds for 2 months, and had a period in Jan, so we shall see if I have one in Feb too. Metformin has also helped me lose some weight too!!!

Avatar f tn Thanks wantbaby14! I'll definitely ask. I'm sick of the side effects. I am just nervous to stop in case something were to happen.
Avatar n tn It will only make diabetes progress faster which leads to unwanted side effects. Take the time to educate yourself on how to control and manage your diabetes. There are numerous web sites having tons of information right at your fingertips. One such web site is the American Diabetes Association [ADA]. Lastly, read other posts on this forum for helpful hints.
Avatar f tn Anyways im gonna stop these anti depressants and try some natural stuff.
Avatar f tn Medicinal grade dilute DSMO applied externally will act as a powerful anti-inflammatory. There are caveats. DSMO is not medically approved and can be dangerous to use. Under no circumstances use industrial DSMO. And it should be only applied with a sterile one-time use wand on a squeaky-clean well-rinsed skin surface. Do an internet search for more information and suppliers.
Avatar f tn I have never been told to stop metformin during these tests. I also take Novalog and Levemir. I am thinking it is causing some side effects. I have symptoms of lactic acidosis but some of those are things you have with MS also! None of my Drs have ever mentioned this as a problem. But I have been on it for so long that it may be taken for granted...
1922425 tn?1322702653 Hi andream5, my husband is finishing week 16 today, so he completed incivek about 4 weeks ago. I would say his side effects since finishing incivek include itching (no rash), fatigue, some weakness/shortness of breath, fatigue, dry mouth/metallic taste in mouth, and insomnia. I think that the symptoms he is experiencing right now (post incivek) are very similar/identical to the side effects he had with previous two treatments. For the itching, he takes Atavan.
182352 tn?1231183410 my OBGYN just prescribed prometrium for low progestrone, and metformin ( the generic form of glucophage), due to my body not processing sugar properly. the prometrium bottle says DO NOT TAKE WHILE PREGNANT. i have read up on this & it seems to be a very common & helpful drug to take during early pregnancy. has anyone taken both, or either 1 alone while pregnant? my 1st pregnancy was a breeze & i hate taking anything during pregnancy. thanks so much.
Avatar n tn Can GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR be used in children? GLUCOPHAGE has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels in children (ages 10 to 16 years) with type 2 diabetes. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in combination with other oral glucose-control medicines or insulin in children. If you have any questions about the use of GLUCOPHAGE in children, talk with your doctor or other healthcare provider.
Avatar f tn I recently had a brazilian wax and soon developed irritation around my genitalia. It's extremely itchy and irritated, very uncomfortable. I haven't slept in three nights and after going to my ob-gyn, she only advised a 1% hydro-cortisone cream and benedryl to sleep, no yeast or bacterial infection indicated. I've tried soaking in epson salts and aloe, but nothing seems to help. Please please help me, this is my last resort.
Avatar m tn gained over 20 lbs, had crazy dreams every night and I was sweaty all the time. The side effects began to kill my self esteem and eventually I came to the conclusion that I needed to switch. Moving to a different med may be your answer if the side effect is outweighing the benefit, you know? Take care.
