Glucophage pcos weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Glucophage pcos weight loss

glucophage

Avatar n tn Metformin may contribute to weight loss in some diabetics.(11) However, weight loss does not appear to be one of its primary benefits. Glucophage may also be of some value improving success with in vitro fertilization, lowering cholesterol, and improving energy.
Avatar n tn If you were my patient, I would encourage you to continue BOTH glucophage and Diane 35. It is possible that if you could lose weight and maintain weight loss that your cycles would resume spontaneously. It is also possible that they wouldn't. Diane will help with hair growth and acne as well as regulate your cycles. If you don't have at least 4 periods per year, (approx every 3 months) you will be at risk for cancer of the endometrium (uterine lining).
Avatar n tn HI, There is no specific vitamin as a treatment for PCOS. However if you are trying for a natural pregnancy then folic acid can be taken. Weight loss gives dramatic results in women who are obese. Consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. Hope this helps.
415867 tn?1323365503 Some women, either with diabetes or PCOS, use metformin as a tool for weight loss. If this is the case, weight loss can occur somewhere between 1 and 5 weeks after beginning a regimen of metformin. Some studies suggest that metformin may also be useful in weight loss for women who are not diabetic or have PCOS, but more research is needed on this point.
1500096 tn?1292945593 In addition to my observation, i sometimes feel sick and nauseous. I feel hungry most of the time that i will feel as if i've not eaten in days. Is it normal to have all these symptoms while using the drugs(glucophage)?. Pls i earnestly await ur reply. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Is there any way medication which people with pcos can take to help them with weight loss? What i have read suggests that the only way to control it is through diet and exercise. I'm asking because my friend who has recently been told that it is likely she may have PCOS goes running for an hour a day and never eats heavily but still manages to put on weight easily. e.g last week she put on over a stone despite exercising and eating well everyday.
1907238 tn?1340711313 Its primary use helps you digest sugars more efficiently and can assist in weight loss, but be careful it can also assist in weight gain. Make sure you are eating a healthy diet while you are on it, or else it might have reverse affects.
Avatar m tn Hi, Drugs for weight loss cannot be taken for an unlimited period of time and need to be taken under medical supervision. Depending on your hormonal levels, the metforim should help with the PCOS. Weight loss can be achieved by a combination of dietary control and exercise. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Treatment will depend on your symptoms and desire for child bearing. Weight loss is the best natural treatment for PCOS. Birth control pills can be taken for menstrual irregularity. If you have a problem conceiving then your gynaecologist will be able to help you. Basic problem in PCOS is hormonal and because of an-ovulation. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Also Glucophage affects the action of insulin and is useful in reducing a number of the symptoms and complications of PCOS and also useful in the management of irregular periods, ovulation induction, weight loss, prevention of type 2 diabetes, and prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus in women with PCOS. You can discuss about this drug with your gynecologist.
Avatar n tn can i use another method to get pregnant fast or which things or activity youthink will be good for a PCOS girl to get ovulation back. do u think glucophage is helping drug for making eggs healthy and regular ovulation.
475740 tn?1208262865 I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I really want to lose weight and I know I gotta take the Metformin but it makes me very nauseous. The diarrhea I can handle but not the nausea, so I haven't been taking it. I see an endocrinologist Wednesday. I was wondering if there's an alternative to Metformin/Glucophage without the nausea side effects. If there's not how long does it take until you get used to the side effects?
Avatar f tn * It sounds like you're having alot of success on Metformin. Congrats on your weight loss!
Avatar f tn Glucophage affects the action of insulin and is useful in reducing a number of the symptoms and complications of PCOS and also useful in the management of irregular periods, ovulation induction, weight loss, prevention of type 2 diabetes, and prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus in women with PCOS. Weight loss can help reduce or prevent many of the complications associated with PCOS. You can discuss these treatment options with a gynecologist/ endocrinologist and start the treatment.
Avatar f tn I am less likely to have a hypoglycemic episode and it even has the benefits of helping with my polycystic ovarian syndrome. A little weight loss is common with the drug also, which won't hurt me either. It can also help lower your LDL cholesterol and lower your triglycerides. Lets hope that the drug does all that it claims. It would be helpful to me in several ways.
229439 tn?1245812437 PCOS can also make it tougher to loss weight once you have gained it plus you tend to gain weight faster or something like that. I never took glucophage to help treat PCOS. The medical community is basically divided on if it works or not. My friend took it and within 3 months she was pg and she lost weight in the process without really trying but another friend took it and the side effects were just aweful, so she stopped. I went through 3 rounds of IUI.
796506 tn?1370188305 The common thing is taking Metformin (aka Glucophage) which is a diabetic drug. I do NOT have the insulin resistance/diabetes associated with PCOS but I still took Metformin. It helped me with weight loss and I believe, ultimately, allowed my body to ovulate on its own. I just felt BETTER on Met.
Avatar n tn yes, check if you have pcos. you should be tested for this and not have your doctor assume a diagnosis as some do or dismiss. That is one sign (body hair) another is skipped/missed monthly cycles and weight gain that isn't easily lost. Your medication is a mask for pcos if that is what you have. If so you should be taking glucophage too.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
623922 tn?1223406991 Metformin does not really help with ovulation. Generaly it is given because of pcos. Losing weight (if overweight) will help you to ovulate. Your doctor probably gave you metformin because you have pcos. Like Lori said she didnt ovulate while taking this, she started ovulating when she lost around 40lbs. I too have lost about 42lbs (but im on birth control) so i cant tell you if i ovulate.
256553 tn?1258883918 If you go to any website on infertility or pcos it will discuss the use of Metformin. I have been on Metformin for pcos and have been on it for one year. It has corrected my FSH & LH levels and helped me to lose 25 lbs without hardly trying. The Metformin sensitizes the cells to insulin therefore lowering the body's production of insulin, which also then reduces androgen production. Once this happens, ovulation often resumes. I beleive that this is particular with pcos conditions.
609020 tn?1285350877 I'm very sorry for your loss. I m/c at 9 weeks (and from the first u/s at 8 weeks knew there was little hope). I can't imagine how painful it must be in your case. Take strength in the knowledge that everything happens for a reason. It took DH and I ttc for 2 years before the m/c. We are now in the 2nd month of ttc after the m/c. It is very scary to think about if it will happen again.
Avatar n tn He said the only thing that has changed since I had my daughter has been my weight and that made my PCOS kick in with the insulin levels. He said we have time to do IVF but he does not want to jump the gun unless I insist. Let me know what is going on with you.
Avatar f tn ok, some of you may know i have pcos, drs say that if i keep going with the weight loss their is a good chance i will concieve, but because DH and i have been tryin for a few years now, i am getting the scared feelin that its never going to happen, so what i was wonderin, did any of you moms, or pregnant moms suffer from pcos and get pregnant?
957923 tn?1246732553 Hi, i can't take bc pills either, my doctor put me on metformin. like you i have high bp but i don't have periods without meds, other than that i don't fit pcos. ask your doc about metformin (glucophage), it made me feel a lot better. good luck.
Avatar n tn No one here with PCOS? People with Type 1 diabetes can get PCOS. My aunt had type 1, which she developed as a teen and was insulin dependent her entire life, and she also had PCOS. She died at age 58 from heart disease. I too have PCOS, but I have type 2 diabetes. After years of dealing with low blood sugar and many other debilitating symptoms, including fatigue and severe PMS, I became diabetic overnight. I'm sorry to say that there is no cure for PCOS. It can only be treated.
Avatar f tn The strategy will be to use fertility medicines to help you to ovulate, perhaps also with a diabetes medicine called glucophage which often helps women to ovulate along with fertility medicines. They may talk to you about weight loss as well. It is hard to predict exactly what your RE will advise, without knowing your clinical situation in great detail and without knowing that particular RE's preferences.
