Avatar m tn my husband has recently started glucophage he is having abdominal pain and sweats and headaches and nervous spells throughout the day. He is not having huge spike in his blood sugars. Should his body adjust to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Several months ago, reports published that many post bypass Sx people have benign pancreatic tumors causing hypoglycemia. Seems, though, no one yet sure if those tumors should be removed -- it corrects hyppoglycemia, but no one knows how long it will be before more grow. My doctors feel it best to try to treat the unstable insulin, but the endocrinologist admits he is going through uncharted territory and merely "guessing" what to do. I was put on Metformin (Glucophage) 500 mg.
Avatar n tn I JUST WENT TO A NEW ENDOCRINOLOGIST- HE WANTS ME TO GO ON GLUCOPHAGE SO I DON'T NEED MORE INSULIN AND TO PREVENT ME FROM GAINING WEIGHT. I THOUGHT THAT GLUCOPHAGE WORKS ON YOUR LIVER AND PREVENTS IT FROM RELEASING GLYCOGEN-WOULDN'T THAT BE DANGEROUS FOR ME IF I NEEDED THE GLYCOGEN DURING A POTENTIALLY BAD EPSIODE OF HYPOGLYCEMIA? I HAVE ALSO BEEN TAKING AN ACE INHIBITOR FOR ABOUT 7 YEARS (WITHOUT PROBLEMS) TO PREVENT RENAL HYPERTENSION (I HAVE HAD TYPE 1 FOR 23 YEARS) AND THE DR.
Avatar n tn Is severe Hypoglycemia a sign of Diabetes? I have had a normal fasting blood tests. My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.
Avatar n tn why do my glucophage tablets give off a first smell and taste impression of being mouldy?
Avatar n tn Can GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR be used in children? GLUCOPHAGE has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels in children (ages 10 to 16 years) with type 2 diabetes. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in combination with other oral glucose-control medicines or insulin in children. If you have any questions about the use of GLUCOPHAGE in children, talk with your doctor or other healthcare provider.
Avatar n tn Hi, what medication are you taking and since when? Conditions like frequent hypoglycemia, autonomic neuropathy do lead to these kinds of symptoms. Did neurologist recommended CSF examination? I can understand frustration you are going through, but please don’t lose hope.
Avatar n tn scolded me for stopping the med, and insists that I continue to give him Glucophage. The Dr. says that the Glucophage will serve as an appetite suppresant as well as help control the blood sugars. Have you ever heard of other children being prescribed Glucophage in addition to other insulin? What are the facts on Glucophage and juveniles?
Avatar n tn Low blood sugar can be serious but as long as he has plenty of carbs with him it should pose no substantial threat. He will need to see the Dr. about getting a Glucophage prescription and those around him and close to him will have to be trained to use it in an emergency. Other than that just knowing when his sugar is going low and taking carbs right away is the only thing that he needs to be concerned about.

182352 tn?1231183410 my OBGYN just prescribed prometrium for low progestrone, and metformin ( the generic form of glucophage), due to my body not processing sugar properly. the prometrium bottle says DO NOT TAKE WHILE PREGNANT. i have read up on this & it seems to be a very common & helpful drug to take during early pregnancy. has anyone taken both, or either 1 alone while pregnant? my 1st pregnancy was a breeze & i hate taking anything during pregnancy. thanks so much.

My period was due 4 days ago but instead I had a reddish/brown light discharge The day my period was due . This lasted a day or so and now have a very light creamish discharge for last 2 days. No sign of my period. I haven't done a test this month as I really don't want to be looking at another negative.
1039061 tn?1257878294 s what brings me here. The endocrinologist told her that he would like to start her on Glucophage to try to shrink the nodule. He felt that surgically removing the nodule at this point would be aggressive, especially since they are benign. Does anyone have an ideas on this, or experience? Is this a viable solution? I know that Glucophage is used for diabetics, but are there other uses, such as this? Any help would be appreciated!!!
Avatar m tn Definitely a question for her doctor. We're not medical professionals here.
