Avatar n tn Can GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR be used in children? GLUCOPHAGE has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels in children (ages 10 to 16 years) with type 2 diabetes. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in combination with other oral glucose-control medicines or insulin in children. If you have any questions about the use of GLUCOPHAGE in children, talk with your doctor or other healthcare provider.
Avatar f tn Also Glucophage affects the action of insulin and is useful in reducing a number of the symptoms and complications of PCOS and also useful in the management of irregular periods, ovulation induction, weight loss, prevention of type 2 diabetes, and prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus in women with PCOS. Avatar n tn m no expert, just the mom of a type 1 and the wife of a type II, but I have not heard of that. I thought Glucophage was strictly for type II diabetes. A read of the online literature says that stomach trouble is a side effect. Is there another endocrinologist in your area from whom you might seek a second opinion? Such a big increase in his A1-C needs to be dealt with, but there may well be other avenues to pursue than Glucophage. Does anyone else out there have experience with this issue?

The RX stands for extended release. In other words, its like time release where the medicine remains longer in the body. Lifestyle change is needed, not change of medicine. Good luck.

Avatar n tn Diabetes type 3 is also known as diabetes type 1.5 or LADA [Latent Autoimmune Disease in Adults]. I will send you private message with information that will help you. The medication you're on helps type 2 patients and may not be suited for you. The best thing you can do to help your self is test, test, test your blood glucose. Test before a meal to get a reference range. Then test 2-3 hours after a meal to see how the foods you consumed affected your blood glucose levels.

Avatar n tn This is double normal for people without diabetes. Complications are known to start with consistently raised blood sugars above normal. I would also suggest you learn more about using insulin and use your insulin to get normal blood sugar levels. Fasting < 95 (range ideally 70 - 90), post eating < 120 (ideally < 95 (ie. similar to fasting levels). Please let us know how you go and also ask questions.
