1500096 tn?1292945593 Hi! Weight gain is definitely not helping you to conceive! Often the Glucophage helps people to lose weight--too bad it didn't have that effect for you! If you were my patient, in addition to recommending diet exercise and weight loss, I would prescribe Clomid or Femara. These medications in addition to the Glucophage might help you to ovulate and conceive.
Avatar n tn HI, There is no specific vitamin as a treatment for PCOS. However if you are trying for a natural pregnancy then folic acid can be taken. Weight loss gives dramatic results in women who are obese. Consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Metformin may contribute to weight loss in some diabetics.(11) However, weight loss does not appear to be one of its primary benefits. Glucophage may also be of some value improving success with in vitro fertilization, lowering cholesterol, and improving energy.
Avatar f tn The best solution for losing weight is a combination of caloric restriction and exercise. Losing weight is challenging but with weight loss your periods have a good shot at coming back to normal. Also, there are fertility pills and a diabetes medicine called glucophage which often help to start more regular ovulation. Good luck!

Avatar f tn Thank you, PastorDan. I read something about Metformin that said if you have weakness, to not take Metformin and I sure don't need to add to my symptoms. I hope your wife is doing well today. Is she in alot of pain? I hope they can help her with the liver disease. I don't think I realized fatty liver could cause chirosis. That's kind of scary! I've had a fatty liver for many years. I really need to lose alot of weight but my insurance doesn't cover weight loss.
Avatar m tn Hi, Drugs for weight loss cannot be taken for an unlimited period of time and need to be taken under medical supervision. Depending on your hormonal levels, the metforim should help with the PCOS. Weight loss can be achieved by a combination of dietary control and exercise. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Is your son overweight? If so, his doctor may be trying to suppress his appetite in order to help him lower his weight. If he is overweight even though a type 1 diabetic, then some type 2 treatment may be necessary in addition to his insulin, for fat cells tend to cause insulin resistance problems. I am just guessing, based on what you wrote.
Avatar n tn So far as a result I have lost weight which I needed to lose about 20-25 lbs to be what i need to be for my height. I never dropped the weight after my daughter. Then I will see him back and he will check my insulin levels and see what to do from there. He said it seems to him that the Metformin with maybe Clomid (maybe) will do the trick. He said the only thing that has changed since I had my daughter has been my weight and that made my PCOS kick in with the insulin levels.
Avatar m tn I have been steadily packing on the weight for a few years now and cannot loose for the life of me. my tsh,t3,t4 always come back in normal range. Since iam no longer on birth controll i have elevated testosterone levels. I have done excersize programs and yes its good and all but it's not painless to cary around 220 lbs! The doctors all they say is loose weight and that pcos while linked to obesity is not the cause. I do not beleive that at all.
1907238 tn?1340711313 Its primary use helps you digest sugars more efficiently and can assist in weight loss, but be careful it can also assist in weight gain. Make sure you are eating a healthy diet while you are on it, or else it might have reverse affects.
415867 tn?1323365503 Some women, either with diabetes or PCOS, use metformin as a tool for weight loss. If this is the case, weight loss can occur somewhere between 1 and 5 weeks after beginning a regimen of metformin. Some studies suggest that metformin may also be useful in weight loss for women who are not diabetic or have PCOS, but more research is needed on this point.
Avatar f tn * It sounds like you're having alot of success on Metformin. Congrats on your weight loss!

Avatar n tn after @ a year, my b/s was still not doing as well as it should be, so Actos was added. I have now been on Glucophage/Actos for @ a year now. Last month I went to dr for a visit because all of my joints, including my hands were aching badly. We really had not sat down & talked for quite awhile. He felt that my aching hands were from my diabetes & said that if I did not start watching my B/s more closely he was going to have to put me on insulin.
Avatar f tn Treatment will depend on your symptoms and desire for child bearing. Weight loss is the best natural treatment for PCOS. Birth control pills can be taken for menstrual irregularity. If you have a problem conceiving then your gynaecologist will be able to help you. Basic problem in PCOS is hormonal and because of an-ovulation. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn It is good to take Clomid for induction of ovulation. Also Glucophage affects the action of insulin and is useful in reducing a number of the symptoms and complications of PCOS and also useful in the management of irregular periods, ovulation induction, weight loss, prevention of type 2 diabetes, and prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus in women with PCOS. You can discuss about this drug with your gynecologist.
957923 tn?1246732553 I take Inderal LA 120mg 1x a day and I also take bcp (Yasmin) and Metformin 500mg 2x for weight loss. My doctor knew I was on Inderal LA and said it was fine. Talk to your doctor about getting on Metformin. It works great and with that I've lost 60 + lbs with it. I have all the symptoms that you have too, except I don't have high blood pressure. I wouldn't consider the lap band surgery (only as a last resort).
Avatar f tn Well it's not a weight loss pill. My main purpose for taking it would be to correct the high testosterone that I have and the weight loss is just a perk! You'd have to ask your doc for a prescript.
865758 tn?1285952904 I'm quite puzzled by your post, to be honest. Prediabetes (sometimes also referred to as insulin resistance) is diagnosed by either fasting blood sugar or A1C. In order to be diagnosed with pre-diabetes you need a fasting blood sugar from 100-125, or an A1C over 5.7. Your blood sugars if anything, are too low. You could be suffering from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) which sometimes precedes diabetes.
Avatar n tn can i use another method to get pregnant fast or which things or activity youthink will be good for a PCOS girl to get ovulation back. do u think glucophage is helping drug for making eggs healthy and regular ovulation.
Avatar n tn Hello, again! Glucophage is just another name for metformin, which is what you described having problems with in your previous question, isn't it?
Avatar n tn I started by monitering my diet and still I needed medication, so my doctor prescribed me with Glucophage XR 500mg, 2 pills a day taken at same time.
