Avatar n tn I'm just curious if Type 1 and polycystic ovaries come hand in hand. from what I've read, polycystic ovarian syndrome can cause type 2 if left untreated. I'm a little confused, I'm getting checked for POS, but I was diagnosed with type 1 over a year ago (when I was 23). Could there be anything other than POS?

Avatar f tn Dr. was lovely. Said should be fine. Said load of rhubarb that it'll be harder for me to get pregnant cause of polycystic ovaries. Says there's a window where we can get pregnant, depending on my cycle. I got to book to have a blood test on the 21st in any hospital - got the forms - just to make sure I'm ovulating, although he doesn't see why not.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have polycystic ovaries and I am a little freaked out by it. My doctor started me on birth control and metformin for the next six months with orders to lose weight. I am wondering how hard or if I will be able to overcome this problem and be able to conceive.
1546050 tn?1293688410 A week ago I went to the doctor due to experiencing menstrual cramps but no getting my period. (Just for background - I only menstruate when I am on the pill and I am currently not on it - therefore I do not menstruate without medication). She did a standard sugar test which came out as 4.4. She then decided that I must be insulin resistant and put me on Glucophage 1 in the evening without even doing any tests or telling me anything about an eating plan etc.
1039061 tn?1257878294 I know that Glucophage is used for diabetics, but are there other uses, such as this? Any help would be appreciated!!!
Avatar f tn Is this a hormonal inbalance? What can I do for it? I am afraid to get on Medication for fear it will mess my system up more. My friend has the same problem they told her she produced to much testosterone and got on medication and now has alot of facial hair. Are there any natural ways to bring those levels down? I want to have another child.
557911 tn?1225980644 They treat it with diabetic drugs like glucophage or metphormin. In some cases they will do surgery to unblock your ovaries. There are quite a few women who probably have it on this site, if you want to ask anymore questions. I hope I helped but didn't scare you, and if I did I do appologize.
Avatar f tn Its actually 2 diff things, one causes symtoms ie weight gain, hair growth in unwanted place, spots and of course cysts infertility and lack of a proper monthly cycle, whereas polycystic ovaries without the sydrome do not give you symtoms.
655964 tn?1225232836 Can someone Help me! To begin my story, I was hospitalized with polycystic ovaries in 96,97,98 with extreme pain. I stayed overnight to manage pain and no surgery was performed..I have records indicating good size ovaries... For a long as know, I have been suffering from bad menstrual cycles only on day1. I had my first laproscopy in 2004 to diagnose endometriosis and it was rulled out due to it being very minimal. Both ovaries looked good.
504877 tn?1210497684 have you been tested for polycystic overies my sister has that and her symptoms sound very similar to yours.
Avatar f tn placed patients on bith control. Now Glucophage is giving which works well for most. I have also had back pain and leg pain and shoulder pain when the cysts became large. I have had several laporoscopies and cystectomies. Which now caused adhesions and forced me to have a bilat oophorectomy. All you can do is have a sono and ask the Dr what to do and keep tract of your cysts.
Avatar n tn It takes blood work to confirm PCOS. You can have polycystic ovaries and not have the hormone imbalance. It does not always mean you will have trouble conceiving. You never know until you try.
