glucophage

Avatar n tn To minimize the side effects of the medication, it is recommended to take the pills with meal or after meal. This helps to distributes the medication better in the body and therefore decrease side effects. Also sometimes, the medication does take at least 2 weeks for the body to get use to it. if side effects persist for more than 2 weeks, should talk to your health care provider about it as you might not be able to tolerate it.
Avatar n tn The best thing you can do to help your self is test, test, test your blood glucose. Test before a meal to get a reference range. Then test 2-3 hours after a meal to see how the foods you consumed affected your blood glucose levels. Avoid/eliminate or cut way back on those that elevate your range above normal. After meals aim for less than 140 mg/dl or 7.78 mmol/l.
Avatar n tn I started by monitering my diet and still I needed medication, so my doctor prescribed me with Glucophage XR 500mg, 2 pills a day taken at same time.

My gynae put me on Glucophage a little bit more then a month ago, but it couldnt be that as these symptoms have only started in the past week. I am also frequently going to the loo ( for a no2 ) shortly after every meal... My GP has checked for viruses and so on through blood tests and he says everything looks good and I'm healthy.
194838 tn?1303428544 Hi, I am taking Glucophage (slow release Metformin) and have just been prescribed Januvia to take also. I have had stomach pains and upset stomach since being on them, the plus side is that I have lost weight so am very happy about that but wondered if anyone else has experienced the stomach pain and if so how long did it take for it to subside. If anyone has any advice etc I would be so grateful.

Avatar n tn Can GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR be used in children? GLUCOPHAGE has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels in children (ages 10 to 16 years) with type 2 diabetes. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in combination with other oral glucose-control medicines or insulin in children. If you have any questions about the use of GLUCOPHAGE in children, talk with your doctor or other healthcare provider.
Avatar n tn scolded me for stopping the med, and insists that I continue to give him Glucophage. The Dr. says that the Glucophage will serve as an appetite suppresant as well as help control the blood sugars. Have you ever heard of other children being prescribed Glucophage in addition to other insulin? What are the facts on Glucophage and juveniles?

12861759 tn?1432917955 I did both at the same time. not that hard to do, just keep good records and test your BG. when your 4 hour PP BG is the same as your pre-meal BG then you took the correct amount of novolog for the carbs you eat. WHen your Pre-meal is under 130 and your fasting is under 130 your Lantus is correct.
Avatar n tn My after meal and through the day blood sugars are 95-110. My A1c is 5.4. I know my fasting should be under 100. I eat low carb and good fats. I exercise. I am at a loss as what to do. The doctor just wants to "watch me".

Avatar f tn I took birth-control pills so that I can have a normal period but then my Doctor prescribed me to take Glucophage 500 mg twice a day after food but it has side effects like dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure and diarrehea... I went to pharmacies and asked about the medicine ( Glocophage), they say its good but it is not making me feel good. The last pharmacy I went to suggested that I should take Glucophage XR. Avatar n tn For a few days, track your carb intake. Check BG before a meal and 2 hours after. If your level is back in the normal range, you are doing OK. If they are still high, time to cut carbs. Keep in mind that sugar is a carb. If you drink soft drinks, stop. No more sweet tea. An occasional treat is fine, just not daily. Portion control is what most of us find works best. Veggie carbs and most fruit carbs are better for you than cake or candy. Meats are essentially no carbs.
Avatar n tn Glucose levels rise after meals and are usually lowest in the morning, before the first meal of the day. This is when the fasting glucose is performed. Please clarify so someone can answer your concerns.

804587 tn?1238012125 re diabetic you need to obtain a home test kit - glucose meter, test strips, and lancets - and test, test, test until you know how to control your glucose levels. Prandial means before a meal, postprandial 2-4 hours after a meal. Is there a reason your doctor did not provide with one? Go here to learn about diabetes and how to control it http://www.diabetes.org/ "3- mostly junk food, but not allways I do eat home made cook." And you're wondering what's wrong with you?

Avatar f tn For instance, today after a 1 hour gym session, his blood sugar level was 9.9. His last proper meal was 8 hours ago, and he had 2 pieces of seaweed before heading to the gym- about an hour before the reading was taken. His medication has been changed twice (doubled in dose the first time- now 500mg/day, added Trajenta the second time) with little improvement. He currently takes Trajenta and Glucophage.
1546050 tn?1293688410 She then decided that I must be insulin resistant and put me on Glucophage 1 in the evening without even doing any tests or telling me anything about an eating plan etc. I am now following a low GI eating plan I got on the internet. My question is - should I be on Glucophage if I was not properly tested for insulin resistance and if my sugar test came out within normal range?
256553 tn?1258883918 I have PCOS and was put on Metformin at 1500 mg every day. My doctor had me on a lower dose and just before we got ready to begin the IUI the doctor upped my doseage. He was hoping to get me up to 2000 mg. but so far 1500 is all I can handle. It has also helped me to lose weight (21 pounds so far) and my nurse at the fertility doctor's said that it has kept the "ring" of cysts that would usually form around my ovaries away.
Avatar n tn She said that I still not a type 2 diabetic but just to be safe she told me to start taking glucophage once a day for 1 week and increase to 2x a day after that. Then I will repeat my tests in January. Should I start taking the meds as she prescribe. I am not overweight and no one in my family is diabetic.
