Common Questions and Answers about Glucophage and low blood sugar

glucophage

Avatar n tn So the more fat cells you have in your body, the higher your blood sugar levels. If you lose excess weight and keep it off, you have a much better chance at avoiding diabetes than if you let the weight creep up, even if you ARE eating properly.
Avatar m tn My sugar levels is high and not coming down. I am eating the right diet and exercising as well but my blood glucose levels is not reducing.
Avatar n tn My doctor just prescribed for me Glipizide along with my Glucophage because my sugars have been high for quite a while now. He warned me of the dangers and symptoms of low blood sugar. My question is, and i know its kind of silly, but what about when i'm sleeping? I know i can drink some juice before bed at 10pm, but then thats 10 hours before i eat again. I can drink juice again when i wake up at 7, but thats still 9 or 10 hours before breakfast. Thanks for any help.
182352 tn?1231183410 my OBGYN just prescribed prometrium for low progestrone, and metformin ( the generic form of glucophage), due to my body not processing sugar properly. the prometrium bottle says DO NOT TAKE WHILE PREGNANT. i have read up on this & it seems to be a very common & helpful drug to take during early pregnancy. has anyone taken both, or either 1 alone while pregnant? my 1st pregnancy was a breeze & i hate taking anything during pregnancy. thanks so much.
Avatar m tn I've been on glucophage since the beginning (10 years) , with the exception of a short and nearly fatal foray into Avandia use. I've had all those symptoms for ten years. I also have passed out several times from low blood sugar, something the doctors say doesn't happen on this medication. Ha, ha. Tell that to the Saturday morning crowd at Denny's. I have been told I am an exception and, normally, the symptoms are supposed to fade after a few months.
1546050 tn?1293688410 She then decided that I must be insulin resistant and put me on Glucophage 1 in the evening without even doing any tests or telling me anything about an eating plan etc. I am now following a low GI eating plan I got on the internet. My question is - should I be on Glucophage if I was not properly tested for insulin resistance and if my sugar test came out within normal range?
865758 tn?1285952904 In order to be diagnosed with pre-diabetes you need a fasting blood sugar from 100-125, or an A1C over 5.7. Your blood sugars if anything, are too low. You could be suffering from hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) which sometimes precedes diabetes. Or if your lows (under 70) are after how carb meals it could be something called reactive hypoglycemia. I am also very puzzled why your doctor would prescribe medication for someone whose blood sugar never rises above the 90s???
Avatar n tn My habit is 5.6 and morning blood sugar is 113. Is it blood sugar ? What steps I have to take to control it?
Avatar f tn When are you seeing " 400+count of sugar"? If at fasting, levels this high usually warrants the addition of insulin. At other times it is always in the best interest of the patient to consult with their primary care physician regarding adjustments/additions to existing medications. Keep in mind levels this high are dangerous to your well being.
1523195 tn?1291322372 I went to the doctor to make full body analysis for diabetes and the blood sugar level was 290 , he prescribed me two tablets / day of Glucophage 1000mg and one tablet / day of ACTOS 30mg. Please tell me in my case is diabetes one of the diseases that can be controlled easy ? I'm scared of diabetes needles in the long run (if it has been developed and not controlled) . Is there any healthy way to reduce it to a normal level?
Avatar f tn Have you had a Hba1c test done? This test gives you an average 3 month blood sugar result and would be a better test to watch blood sugar with. A truly normal hba1c is 5.0 or less. If your test came back at this number perhaps you have no need to be concerned. I assume you are treating your hashimoto with thyroid meds, appropriately.
Avatar m tn You need to do basal testing (you can google this) to determine what your correct dose of long acting insulin is to bring your fasting and back ground blood sugar close to normal (normal fasting blood sugar is 80 - 95 range). Then you need to calculate your carb-insulin dose to get the correct dose of insulin to cover what you eat. Are you taking metformin / Glucophage, as well? it may help reduce insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn I took birth-control pills so that I can have a normal period but then my Doctor prescribed me to take Glucophage 500 mg twice a day after food but it has side effects like dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure and diarrehea... I went to pharmacies and asked about the medicine ( Glocophage), they say its good but it is not making me feel good. The last pharmacy I went to suggested that I should take Glucophage XR. I still didnt take it, Im still using Glucophage.
Avatar n tn i have done blood test on last month and my dibetologist asked me to take glucophage 500 on morning and januvia-100mg on night.after taking the same for 3 weeks my fasting sugar was under control.i m an IT professional.when i came to my work place ,bcz of work pressure and tensions ,my blood sugar level(fasting ) is getting high. is it possible to take tahe same with glucophage 500 mg and januvia 100mg on night? will give any issues?
Avatar n tn My Mom is taking Metformin to control her blood sugar level. She was never heavy, but now she's only 97 pounds. I've been hearing something about Mteformin aiding in, or causing weight loss. Has anyone else heard of this? Should I be concerned that the medicine may be making the problem worse? Also is there anything she should eat/take to gain weight without raising her glucose level?
Avatar n tn Mouth very dry and thirsty as anything. Checked my blood Sugar and it was 459. I took my Metformin early to try and bring it down. Can I take maybe 10 units of the Lantus to try and bring it down a little more? Just wondering if the long acting works that way.
Avatar n tn Here is some more information on blood glucose ranges and blood sugar testing for you from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app. http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Be-Blood-Sugar-Savvy/1777 If you enter enough data over enough days, our app gives you an average A1C -- this is your 3 month average amount of glucose in your blood. It's likely a better measure than the daily averages from your meter, as Mindmaster points out. Here's a little more about the A1C: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn I have high blood sugars in the morning and was told this was a condition called Predawn Syndrome. Has anyone else heard of this or have it. Ask your doctor if this could be what you have too.
Avatar n tn She said that I still not a type 2 diabetic but just to be safe she told me to start taking glucophage once a day for 1 week and increase to 2x a day after that. Then I will repeat my tests in January. Should I start taking the meds as she prescribe. I am not overweight and no one in my family is diabetic.
