Avatar n tn T NEED MORE INSULIN AND TO PREVENT ME FROM GAINING WEIGHT. I THOUGHT THAT GLUCOPHAGE WORKS ON YOUR LIVER AND PREVENTS IT FROM RELEASING GLYCOGEN-WOULDN'T THAT BE DANGEROUS FOR ME IF I NEEDED THE GLYCOGEN DURING A POTENTIALLY BAD EPSIODE OF HYPOGLYCEMIA? I HAVE ALSO BEEN TAKING AN ACE INHIBITOR FOR ABOUT 7 YEARS (WITHOUT PROBLEMS) TO PREVENT RENAL HYPERTENSION (I HAVE HAD TYPE 1 FOR 23 YEARS) AND THE DR. TOLD ME I DIDN'T NEED IT AND TO DISCONTINUE ANY ACE INHIBITORS.
Avatar n tn This is a very big part of having type 2 diabetes, for type 2 is really an insulin-resistant problem, and fat cells are insulin-resistant. So the more fat cells you have in your body, the higher your blood sugar levels. If you lose excess weight and keep it off, you have a much better chance at avoiding diabetes than if you let the weight creep up, even if you ARE eating properly.
Avatar f tn Hi! If diagnosed with high insulin, is it safe to medicate like taking glucophage? Is it harmful to the liver?
1546050 tn?1293688410 She then decided that I must be insulin resistant and put me on Glucophage 1 in the evening without even doing any tests or telling me anything about an eating plan etc. I am now following a low GI eating plan I got on the internet. My question is - should I be on Glucophage if I was not properly tested for insulin resistance and if my sugar test came out within normal range?
Avatar n tn is it because of medication switching(ive heard that metformin is **** compared to glucophage)?.. Or maybe is my situation getting worse and my body isnt able to produce insulin as well as it was when I was first diagnosed?
Avatar f tn I have hypothryoid disease ( all new to me ) and my doctor has perscribed glucophage to me to helped with irreglar menstral cycles.
Avatar m tn This is a particular drug that increases how the insulin is produced and utilized. It is a bit different in that it does not increase or decrease your insulin amount just enhances your own body's reaction to insulin. Makes it more sensitized.
Avatar n tn Can GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR be used in children? GLUCOPHAGE has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels in children (ages 10 to 16 years) with type 2 diabetes. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in combination with other oral glucose-control medicines or insulin in children. If you have any questions about the use of GLUCOPHAGE in children, talk with your doctor or other healthcare provider.
256553 tn?1258883918 Hi, My first question is do you have pcos? If you go to any website on infertility or pcos it will discuss the use of Metformin. I have been on Metformin for pcos and have been on it for one year. It has corrected my FSH & LH levels and helped me to lose 25 lbs without hardly trying. The Metformin sensitizes the cells to insulin therefore lowering the body's production of insulin, which also then reduces androgen production. Once this happens, ovulation often resumes.
865758 tn?1285952904 That is totally within the normal range! Even if your doctor anticipates you having insulin resistance and proceeding to develop diabetes you aren't there yet. It would be much more appropriate to recommend a combination of diet for weight loss, cutting carbs and exercise. I'm going to research Insulin Resistance to see if I'm missing something, but that is what I'm seeing now. You need to ask your doctor to explain his treatment and what he is seeing in your medical picture.
Avatar f tn After two weeks the prednisone should have worn off. Don't be too distressed. Ebverything will eventually come back to what it was.
Avatar m tn If you are type 2 a drug like metformin / Glucophage, an insulin sensitizer may be useful.
Avatar n tn You need to see your Dr about this. if it is due to insulin resistance a drug called glucophage / metformin can be useful.

Avatar n tn My aunt had type 1, which she developed as a teen and was insulin dependent her entire life, and she also had PCOS. She died at age 58 from heart disease. I too have PCOS, but I have type 2 diabetes. After years of dealing with low blood sugar and many other debilitating symptoms, including fatigue and severe PMS, I became diabetic overnight. I'm sorry to say that there is no cure for PCOS. It can only be treated.
Avatar f tn Hi I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18, but I've had the condition for years before that. My PCOS was coupled with Insulin Resistance, so I've basically lived with the 'tyre' of fat around my abdomen along with generally being overweight for most of my life. I've been on treatment (Glucophage for IR and birth control pills for PCOS) going on six years now. I've lost about 30kg in that time and still losing.
Avatar f tn To manage blood sugars you need medication (probably insulin) combined with low carb diet and exercise. Do not eat sweets, breads, rice, candies, fruit, fruit juice when your sugars are so high. If you are feeling very bad or if the sugars do not go down to the 100s within a few hours please go to the ER for immediate treatment. IN any case contact your doctor asap.
Avatar f tn My Dr. wants to place me on Metformin or Glucophage. Does anyone here with MS take one of these? If so, what kind of problems might I expect? What good benefits do you receive? Any info is much appreciated!!!!
Avatar m tn Considering your insulin levels are high, this means you have insulin resistance. I would recommend you go back to consider and try metformin / Glucophage, as the mechanism of this drug is to reduce insulin resistance. If metformin alone cannot get your hba1c below 6 (ideally into the low 5s, which is close to 'normal', then I would recommend you consider starting insulin.
Avatar n tn I have confirmed hypoglycemic events; glucose below 70, even to 30. Begins with some visual disturbance I can't describe, then I get shaky, sweat, heart pounds as sugar falls. Glucose intake helps quickly. Glucose tolerance test showed erratic insulin, irrelevant to the glucose level. Began about 10 months post gastric bypass surgery, but father had similar episodes and older sister is hypoglycemic.
