Avatar n tn Has anyone been diagnosed with MODY 2 diabetes? My son has this and it is very rare so I am trying to find others who may have this so that we can learn from each other. Thanks.
Avatar n tn My son (age 2) was also diagnosed with MODY. They believe his is MODY 7, which is very rare and supposedly there are only 1 or 2 doctors with expertise in that type. The doctor is in Briminham, England and we are in Columbus, Ohio. I too am diabetic, as is my sister, my dad, his mother, her mother, and I guess also her mother. MODY is clearly a genetic disorder. Mathias is not on treatment yet but will be as soon as they decide HOW to treat it.
Avatar n tn Hey guys! I was diagnosed diabetic 6 months ago and it's been a roller coaster ever since. First, they thought Type 2 then it was decided Type 1. But I am antibody negative so they don't think it's t1d anymore. My doctors are now thinking it may be MODY. I'm curious if anyone knows anything about MODY and/or its treatments. It's a rare form of diabetes that comes from a mutation of certain genes. Only way to determine if you have it is genetic testing, which is costly.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with MODY diabetes in 2012 and I don't see a category for it here. I joined type two because I am not on insulin, however I will be when I get older. Is there anyone else with MODY who can share their experience with me and others?
Avatar f tn There is another kind of diabetes (many now adays) called MODY, mature onset diabetes of the young, there are 6 types, type 2 mody is the most benign, abnormal sugars sometimes after we eat, takes a higher sugar to get the stubborn pancreas to work and then it puts out insulin, not caused by antibodies like type 1 or insulin resistance like type 2, this is a separate genetic thing that is due to miscoding or misprocessing in the islet cell or the many steps that lead to insulin production(put si
Avatar n tn I too was well 16 and 89 lbs when I was told I was a type 2 diabetic. I have been told it is now called Mody 2 diabetes by my endo. He said there is no way a 89 lb teen can get type 2. Back in 1973 there was no such thing as A1c. Your lucky there is now. It sounds like his BS have come way down. I just check, it is the only way you will know if foods spike his BS.
Avatar n tn There are some very specific, relativly rare, forms of diabetes known as Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) that are known to have genetic causes. There are six identified types of MODY, each linked to a specific genetic mutation which is autosomal dominant, meaning a child of someone with MODY will have a 50% chance of inheriting the disease.
Avatar n tn My 5 year old was reciently diagnosed with diabetes, and yesterday I recieved a phone call from our family doctor that my 34 year old husband is also diabetic (Type 2). When I hung up the phone I cried and cried because I feel as though everything is just falling apart. My 5 year old has been picked and poked at over the last month, and the doctor still has not figured out what type of diabetes she has.
Avatar f tn Some people get diagnosed with type 1 or 2 when they really have MODY. It can even be responsible for gestational diabetes. Interesting, right? They did a fasting glucose tolerance test and c-peptide test ( I think. I asked them to. not sure if they did) and they are checking for antibodies to rule everything else out. But I am pretty positive that will come back fine. I don't believe she has type 1. Anyway... my point is there are more types of diabetes than type 1 and 2.
Avatar f tn My son is a Type 1 diabetic, diagnosed at 15. He has a 2 1/2 y/o son that they had trouble waking one morning. My son grabbed his tester. My grandsons blood sugar was 42. They went to the ER. Lots of tests were taken, all came back normal. The endocrinologist they followed up with said his case was not the norm and was odd. (His A1c was 5.0) They were told to keep a log of his blood sugars for a couple of months.
Avatar f tn So far painful iv had mid back cramps constant nausea and daddy is berry cranky cuz I'm so mody I haven't had a good night sleep I'm about 5 weeks now I'm exausted
Avatar m tn If she has the rare form called maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY), your child has almost a 1-in-2 chance of getting it, too. There is a FREE online book by Dr. Laura Dean called "The Genetic Landscape of Diabetes". This book provides an overview of the current [2004] knowledge on genetics of type 2 diabetes. Well worth the read!
Avatar f tn i hate waiting....just dont want to get my hopes up...i will retest in a week though because im mody, tired all the time, weird random smells come to me at the most random moments, sore BBs, crazy as it might sound i feel pregos....
Avatar f tn Yes it is greatly possible....I am also 20 and my doctor thought I had type 2 diabetes. Recently I found out that I have type 1.5 diabetes. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what is 1.5...lol. I know what is 1 and 2, but not 1.5. Believe me for a 20 year old I feel like I have way too many problems.
Avatar m tn In 2010 I was told by a recuriter that it was a no go for me. One thing that surprises me is he told me that if I was a Type 2 and on pills he would sign a waiver. Since I am a Type 1 and NEED insulin to survive he couldn't help me. It's sad but any job that puts other people lives at risk we can't do ex: military, pilot, and even some law enforcements. With the law enforcements it's up to that department.
299260 tn?1304216105 s why drs advised me for IVF that is the best way for me (but if it continues, as all my missed carriages were not continued after 2 months). Unfortunately I got to know last week that I have a T-shape uterus and my new dr told me I had to have a surgery before doing any IVF. I am wondring should I do it and wouldn't it make my situation more complicated as I am 39 years old. pls advised me if you can. my address is "mahnazina" in yahoo.
215385 tn?1201802901 Hi All Can anyone please advise me? My husband and I have been trying for a baby for about 7 months. I'm only 31 so I'm not stressing out too much at the moment about it not happening straight away. Anyway, I am currently in that 2 week wait period and I can't describe it but I have an overwhelming feeling that I'm pregnant. I know it sounds crazy but I am so sure I would bet my house on it. It's just a really strange feeling.
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with Diabetes, about 2 months ago. I am a 34 year old male, very fit and do lots of exercise. My blood sugars are controlled via exercise and diet but I am experiencing general feelings of numbness, particularly in both hands and lower arms although also sometimes in my thigh / leg. I get very tired in the afternoon and also get random pins and needles feelings.
Avatar n tn Testing that needs done by the endocrinologists at your visit will be done include islet cell antibodies, anti-GAD antibodies and repeat hba1c and urine glucose , this may be a mild kind called MODY but she needs seen asap, do not wait another day please
Avatar f tn m always out of energy, bored, sad, mody, angry and feel like doing nothing. This might sound silly but I need serious help. I do not want to stay like this, I want to go back to my old self.
Avatar m tn I am taking Humalog and Lanus. For the past 2 months I have had severe abdomen pain in my lower right quadrant. The pain gets worse when I eat and when it gets really bad it radiates to my lower back. I had a CT scan and it showed my intestines were inflamed, I just had a colonoscopy last week and my results were normal.
Avatar m tn tall was in good shape then 2 years ago bamm out of no where health went to crap did some searching and found out myself i am diabetic but not the norm im not resistant to insulin and i can make it just need drugs to get it done. Ive been diagnosed with mody diabetes. Since this ive had the diabetes well under control the last 3 a1c's were 5.9, 6.0, 6.0 I now believe its been lyme thats been kicking my ***.
Avatar n tn Hi, Diabetes is a complex disease and currently there are several types. These are type 1, type 2 , early onset type 2 DM and MODY. Other forms of insulin resistance conditions may also be caused by autoimmune and genetic factors. "In all types of diabetes there is a balance between genetic and environmental factors, but as in other diseases, genes play a greater role in patients with a younger-onset for their diabetes. This is clearly seen in Type 2 diabetes.
773214 tn?1295135069 I found out on 2.13 and had a d&c 2/19. SO I am no where near being able to try again and that's driving me crazy. My follow up is on Friday. He told me I only need to wait until I've had one period to try again...I am trying to deal with this and right now all I want to do is fast forward like 4 weeks to try to get this process going again....
