Avatar n tn Last fall I had two mi's, resulting in stents being placed in my lad. In December my cardiologist found a clot in my left ventricle after reading my echocardiogram. I was put on warfarin in December and at the last echo the clot is still present, although smaller and denser. Is there a chance it will never dissolve? What danger does it present? Can it still break loose and travel in my bloodstream?
Avatar n tn There are various steps you can take that do not require medication, which may help your diabetes. Keep in mind that only your healthcare professional should make decisions regarding any adjustments to your medications. However, by following some of these simple tips, you may be able to get your medication reduced or even come off of it altogether.
Avatar n tn It is also a new practice (Joslin diabetes center - one of the world'sleading diabetes management and research centres) to start all persons with diabetes on insulin instead of oral meds. Glipizide is a drug that makes your pancreas put out more insulin so it can cause lows. It can also make your pancreas burn out faster. So do research this and consider stopping this drug (in coordination with your Dr.) Metformin does not have this effect. So you can ask your Dr.
Avatar m tn Hi Tony, with an hba1c of 7.1 your average blood sugars are about 170, which is certainly high enough to cause neuropathy. Nerve damage is known to be caused with blood sugars above about 120 - 140. If you can it would be great if you can get tighter control. Many find that low carb diet is very helpful or reducing sugar levels (ADA just put out a statement that low carb diets can be very helpful for reducing blood sugar and a1c levels).

973741 tn?1342342773 Look into low carb / grit / Bernstein approach to diabetes management. This approach often gives much more stable blood sugars. When one is not continually chasing extreme highs and lows, then the stress levels become less. 3. Avatar n tn I also have noticed that there is a diabetes pilot software in which I can get for my desktop and pda. I like the fact that the diabetes pilot has a list of foods (carbs, etc.) that you can enter for reference and can be used on my pda. Not sure if the lifescan (ultra touch 2) one does but I do like that I can download the results from the monitor to the computer with it even though it wouldn't be hard for me to do so manualy.
Avatar n tn My 8 year old was diagnosed with Type 1 at 16 months old. As a bright, fun loving third grader, I'm interested in what other parents are doing to insure proper diabetes management during school hours. She has been on a pump for almost 4 years and suffers the "highs and lows" that we, as parents, hate to see. Lets find a cure....quickly!!!!!!
Avatar m tn Well, without a detailed description of the symptoms or a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation. Diabetes may be associated with increased susceptibility to infections and reduced healing power and in a few cases may be associated with neuropathy and decreased vascularity that could lead to the formation of a diabetic ulcer.
Avatar f tn Helen, I would go back to the doctor already to be seen and not wait the five days. Wound management in persons with diabetes is critical to prevent complications. The treatment if the wound should be very agressive to make sure this heals. Please also work hard to control your blood sugar very well (ideally below 140 at all times), to help the healing process. Let us know how you go.

Avatar n tn My 3 year old grandson has type 1 diabetes and recently has not been feeling well. He has been very irritable and has had some high blood sugars lately. Last night he tested positive for keytones in his urine. According to the test strips he had moderate to large ketones. Today he continues to test positive but with definate large results. I took him to see his pediatric doctor today and he actually call in an associate to look at him, also.
454863 tn?1208306979 The next big challenge is learning to manage this well. Please ask any questions to your diabetes management team.... and you are also welcome to discuss here. The best advise I know is to monitor closely. Ask his team if he can be qualified for a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). This will be super helpful. Look into low carb to assist management. This is suitable, even for children. On utube check out "Bernstein Diabetes University" and "children"...

Avatar n tn Changing lifestyle habits can go a long way in controlling type 2 diabetes. India leads the world in diabetes. This is mainly due to poor diet/nutrition. Avatar m tn In the UK, diabetes test measurements are presented as mmol/l [millimoles/liter]. Normal fasting mmo/l glucose [blood sugar] ranges are 3.88 to 5.5 mmol/l. If your "gone up to 18points" is a fasting 18 mmol/l you are in the danger zone of having serious life threatening health issues. Please educate yourself on the hows/what-to-do's on diabetes control and management before its too late.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much Thomas. It was a shock at first even though I had it in the back of my mind that it might be diabetes. She's a little overweight, too! Yes, I hope we caught it early. I just had her to the Vet this past May, and her labs were okay. It was very strange, as her behavior was very good; it was just the excessive amounts of water and urinating that made me think something is wrong with her.
Avatar n tn Diabetes is very much a condition that needs awareness and self-management. If the diabetics in your company do not know how to properly treat their diabetes with diet, weight control, exercise and regular testing they are putting themselves at risk. Obesity makes diabetes harder to control and a type 2 diabetic who is overweight should be working with their doctor and nutritionist to develop a strategy for healthy weight loss.
Avatar f tn Better control and management of your diabetes is a must requirement before getting pregnant. High blood sugar levels early in the pregnancy [before 13 weeks] can cause birth defects or other serious health issues to the baby. They also can increase the risks of miscarriage and diabetes related complications. You should speak with your health care provider on what you need to do to get your blood sugar levels down as close to normal levels as possible.
10947 tn?1281404252 Yes the activators are a joke....I dont let a chiro use them on me.....I only go to the ones who work with their hands. If a chiro pulls out the activator, I laugh and tell then no way and never return. lol I have a very good chiro who doesn't play into all the hoopla.....he uses his hands and feels everything. Glad to see I am not the only one who doesn't agree with activators.
