glimepiride vs glyburide

My new doctor changed my prescriptions from regular Met to Met XR and added 2mg of Glimepiride. My BG's have been above 300 for last few months and nothing seems to get them down. Doc thinks this change should do it. I've only taken it twice now but since taking it I've been dizzy. Quite enough I need to lay down. I know it says this may be a side affect but does it go away? It brought my BG's down as I said from over 300 3 hrs after eating to 180 just now.

It may seem counterintuitive but hunger and glucose levels are two separate processes. Hunger is what your body craves vs excess sugar circulating in your blood stream. Make sense?

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and was on diet for a week. But the glucose level don't seem to fall in the normal range. So doctor put me on glyburide, that I have to start tonight. My concern is is that going cause any problem to my baby??? Has anyone used this medicine in pregnancy? Please advice.

They feel this is more dangerous than unknown possible risks from glyburide. I have read that glyburide is considered very safe in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters but there has never been any study of the drug in pg women that I could find. If it makes you feel better, go ahead and ask your surrogate if she would switch to insulin at least for a month or two. That will give the babies time to finish all of those early developments that can be so sensitive.

All my results have been under 120 for the 1st week and now my Dr said I need to take 5mg of Glyburide daily. I read alot of negative things about Glyburide during pregnancy so I told my Dr I would not take it. Now she says I will need to be on Insulin. Does anyone know if Glyburide or Insulin are appropriate if your glucose results are all under 120? I thought medication for gestational diabetes should only be given if the results are very high but again I'm not sure.

my doctor wants me to change my medicine(from glyburide to methamorphin)is that mean that my diabetes is getting worst?I told them that I'm ok with glyburide because I'm using it for 8years now and I didn't see any bad effects on me.Can you please give me more helpful ideas?

the drug glimepiride, is not making my blood sugar level lower; instead is higher 250! I am taking 2mg twice a day. My doctor says all is OK.

then i saw the doctor and apparently my levels after a modified diet were still too high. he put me on glyburide 2x daily and i will go back on thursday to see if its working. of coarse i went and googled the medicine and i landed on all these websites where its a category C and not safe during pregnancy. my doctor explained that the baby is large on the outside but the insides (lungs) can be underdeveloped with diabetes.

He takes 2 tablets Glycomet Trio 1 (Metformin HCL Sustained Release, Glimepiride & Voglibose Tablets) - 1 before taking lunch and before taking dinner.

After this happened a couple of times I quit taking the Metformin. About a year later I was then diagnosed with T2 and am now on Glimepiride and have since began having these episodes again. They begin in the jaw area primarily the glands just below my jaws, with a sting/tingling that intensifies and radiates out all around my ears, neck throat and surface of my chest, and my upper torso goes ice cold. This takes place any where from a 30 second to a 3 minute cycle.

Is anybody here taking glyburide medicine while pregnant? I went to my appt this morning my OBGYN Dr is away for 2 weeks and she'll be back on dec 15.. The main concern I would have about the addition to Lantus 20 units daily would be the risk of low blood sugar, especially in combination with glimepiride. Both Lantus and glimepiride can cause low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. Just make sure you're watching for the signs of low blood sugar, which are, sudden headache, feeling shaky, and weakness. There are many more signs of hypoglycemia and I encourage you to research it more yourself.

Please do not put off calling your doc today. I looked up Amaryl (glimepiride) and it is used by type 2 diabetics to lower glucose levels. There's a discussion going on in this forum about type 2, after long periods of time (how long is unk), reversing into type 1 diabetics. In your case it seems you are combating low glucose levels and may have a flipped 180º. Let us know what your docs says. You will help a lot of readers by posting your history if you did turn into a type 1.

I failed my three hour and they had me on a diet and checking my blood sugar 4x a day. Plus I see a perinatalogist to checkon baby and make sure he's growing right. The diet didn't work for me like they wanted it to so I was put on glyburide twice a day. It's nothing to worry about really. It's just a pain to check your sugars all the time and not being able to give in to cravings is hard sometimes.

My fetal specialist is putting me on glyburide for my fasting sugars being to high! Has anyone else had to take this an everything was OK with the baby????

I am a 36 yr old type 2 diabetic, w/chronic hypertension and overweight. Just lost my 2nd baby at 22 wks. This baby stopped growing@17 wks. I lost my first baby as well at 22wks at age 30. 1st pregnancy loss was due to pre-eclampsia which caused placenta to stop functioning at 20wks. 2nd pregnancy bled from 6 wks to 18wks off and on. No cause ever given for the bleeding. Midwife always stated that cervix was closed and tight, baby was fine and stop having sex.

I am on glyburide and so far the baby seems to be measuring on the date, but im curious as to the earliest a doc has ever scheduled a c section or induction for GDM complications?
