My new doctor changed my prescriptions from regular Met to Met XR and added 2mg of Glimepiride. My BG's have been above 300 for last few months and nothing seems to get them down. Doc thinks this change should do it. I've only taken it twice now but since taking it I've been dizzy. Quite enough I need to lay down. I know it says this may be a side affect but does it go away? It brought my BG's down as I said from over 300 3 hrs after eating to 180 just now.

In reviewing a number of PubMed articles it appears that an alternative might be Gallstone dissolution therapy using Ursodiol. The Physicians at the hospital could/would not tell me the size of the gallstones, nor did they know whether they were cholesterol based. I felt they were railroading me into surgery. I decided to check myself out of the hospital. I was able to get them to prescribe 30 days worth of Ursodiol.

the drug glimepiride, is not making my blood sugar level lower; instead is higher 250! I am taking 2mg twice a day. My doctor says all is OK.

He takes 2 tablets Glycomet Trio 1 (Metformin HCL Sustained Release, Glimepiride & Voglibose Tablets) - 1 before taking lunch and before taking dinner.

After this happened a couple of times I quit taking the Metformin. About a year later I was then diagnosed with T2 and am now on Glimepiride and have since began having these episodes again. They begin in the jaw area primarily the glands just below my jaws, with a sting/tingling that intensifies and radiates out all around my ears, neck throat and surface of my chest, and my upper torso goes ice cold. This takes place any where from a 30 second to a 3 minute cycle.

The main concern I would have about the addition to Lantus 20 units daily would be the risk of low blood sugar, especially in combination with glimepiride. Both Lantus and glimepiride can cause low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. Just make sure you're watching for the signs of low blood sugar, which are, sudden headache, feeling shaky, and weakness. There are many more signs of hypoglycemia and I encourage you to research it more yourself.

Please do not put off calling your doc today. I looked up Amaryl (glimepiride) and it is used by type 2 diabetics to lower glucose levels. There's a discussion going on in this forum about type 2, after long periods of time (how long is unk), reversing into type 1 diabetics. In your case it seems you are combating low glucose levels and may have a flipped 180º. Let us know what your docs says. You will help a lot of readers by posting your history if you did turn into a type 1.

Every radiologist that I have worked with requires a negative ultrasound within 90 days before administering Kinevac (CCK analogue). Further, gallstone dissolution was basically thrown out with the 1992 NIH concensus report on the management of gallbladder disease in everyone except those with an unexcepatably high surgical risk.

One last question-- What type of specialist/s would I want to see for lithotripsy or for contact dissolution therapy (or any other treatment that isn't going to include removing the gallbladder)?

I am asking as I am still young enough to safely carry out surgery a few months, or years later (should bile acid therapy fail) and given that the gallstones were not visible in the CT scan, potentially making them better candidates for bile acid dissolution. Moreover, I suspect my gallstones may have been the result of some previous fasting / rapid weight loss, which I will be careful to avoid in the future. it functions by decreasing blood loss plus it helps in dissolution of clots....however for irregularity of periods u should go to a gynacologist for a quick check up.......

How are you doing with monitoring your diet? Do you get regular exercise and drink plenty of water? Sometimes the medications that are helpful and keep things under control for a while, stop working or just need adjusted.

These drugs may affect dissolution, absorption, and overall efficacy of some oral medications, but do not afffect HIV ab. blood tests. Drugs are my specialty, so I will let someone else answer your "window period question".

Hey Scrappy - has your doctor suggested adding GLIMEPIRIDE to your Metformin? I am type 2, have been for 10 years - also only have 1/2 a Pancreas, as I had to have the other half removed due to a tumor in the head of my Pancreas - 8 hour surgery, and 8 days in the hospital, which is where the Insulin shots started. Initially, I came home from the hospital on both types of Insulin.

He has put me on Carvedilol 25mg 2x a day, Nifedipine (Procardia XL) 60mg 1x day, Glimepiride 4mg 1x day, and continued me on Phenytoin EX 300mg @ night (had 3 seizures in 20yrs -age 24, 34, & 46)& Ecotrin 325mg 1 @ night. I went to an endocrinologist who put me on Vicotza and glimepiride. M numbers have dropped drastically. I am never over 150 now. Have been on it for maybe a month. So insulin is an option but there are other medications that help too. Problem with insulin is it cause weight gain which can perpetuate the over -weight high blood sugar issues! Vicotza can work as a weight loss aide as well. Call an endo soon!!
