1068689 tn?1325827206 My new doctor changed my prescriptions from regular Met to Met XR and added 2mg of Glimepiride. My BG's have been above 300 for last few months and nothing seems to get them down. Doc thinks this change should do it. I've only taken it twice now but since taking it I've been dizzy. Quite enough I need to lay down. I know it says this may be a side affect but does it go away? It brought my BG's down as I said from over 300 3 hrs after eating to 180 just now.
Icecream ) But nearly all newly diagnosed patients start oral medications right away and some physicians are more aggressive than others because it is important to get diabetes under control as soon as possible to reduce risk of long term complications. The main concern I would have about the addition to Lantus 20 units daily would be the risk of low blood sugar, especially in combination with glimepiride. Both Lantus and glimepiride can cause low blood sugar or hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with T2 Diabetes and have had some episodes that concern me. When diagnosed with pre-diabetes I was put on Metformin. This was the first time I experienced this reaction. It was like symptoms for a stroke or heart attack. After this happened a couple of times I quit taking the Metformin. About a year later I was then diagnosed with T2 and am now on Glimepiride and have since began having these episodes again.
Avatar n tn I currently take glimepiride 4mg twice daily and actos 15mg once daily. What is the sucess of these two meds. I continue to have high blood sugar levels.
538277 tn?1214680105 He has put me on Carvedilol 25mg 2x a day, Nifedipine (Procardia XL) 60mg 1x day, Glimepiride 4mg 1x day, and continued me on Phenytoin EX 300mg @ night (had 3 seizures in 20yrs -age 24, 34, & 46)& Ecotrin 325mg 1 @ night. Have major problems with diaherra, and diverticular disease. Hospitalized in May of '07 w/preferations starting - there for 3 days, back in ER 1 wk, no insurance - kept me on antibotics for about 2 months. Alegeric to pencillin, tetracycline, & opiates.
Avatar n tn How are you doing with monitoring your diet? Do you get regular exercise and drink plenty of water? Sometimes the medications that are helpful and keep things under control for a while, stop working or just need adjusted.
Avatar n tn There are lots of different diabetes medications available that will help. Those glucose levels are indeed too high and should be addressed soon. Please ask your wife to contact her doctor as soon as possible(I suggest within the next 2 days a most) and discuss being started on another medication to bring her levels down.In the meantime she should continue being careful about what she eats, exercise when she can and drink water to stay hydrated.
1273125 tn?1365077526 The American Diabetes Association diet would blow my numbers through the roof. 60 grams of carbs at one meal will put me over 200. My fasting glucose has always been high even with taking Metformin before bed. I try eating a diet with 20-25 carbs a day and I still have issues. I understand that taking insulin is a big step and commitment. The dangers however of having such high blood sugar are worse. Do you have another type of medication that works for you? I am open to all ideas.
Avatar m tn Patient is a case of CAD, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes mellitus with ischaemic cardiomyopathy. Recent CAG shows 70% mid and distal LAD stenosis, 50%om2, and 60-70% RCA lesion. Stress MPI scan is being done to evaluate for reversible ischaemia. The LV cavity appears dilated at both stress and rest.
Avatar m tn the drug glimepiride, is not making my blood sugar level lower; instead is higher 250! I am taking 2mg twice a day. My doctor says all is OK.
Avatar n tn I went to an endocrinologist who put me on Vicotza and glimepiride. M numbers have dropped drastically. I am never over 150 now. Have been on it for maybe a month. So insulin is an option but there are other medications that help too. Problem with insulin is it cause weight gain which can perpetuate the over -weight high blood sugar issues! Vicotza can work as a weight loss aide as well. Call an endo soon!!
Avatar f tn They said it was due to my diabetes, this after having a CT scan, EEG, and EMG. Everything came back normal. That day, I had eaten a bowl of cereal (which I no longer eat) and at the time of the seizure my sugars were 255 and I hadn't eaten in over 4 hours. A few months later I had another "episode" as they are now calling it, and again, I hadn't eaten anything in about 4 hours. Since then, I have, on and off, had similar episode.
Avatar m tn Please do not put off calling your doc today. I looked up Amaryl (glimepiride) and it is used by type 2 diabetics to lower glucose levels. There's a discussion going on in this forum about type 2, after long periods of time (how long is unk), reversing into type 1 diabetics. In your case it seems you are combating low glucose levels and may have a flipped 180ยบ. Let us know what your docs says. You will help a lot of readers by posting your history if you did turn into a type 1.
Avatar f tn 1. Are you experiencing any Glimepiride and/or Pravistatin side effects? If you don't know Google it. 2. Did you inform your doctor and Pharmacist of all medications Rx'd and OTC, vitamins, and supplements you are taking, including aspirin? 3. Did you inform your new doctor of your weight loss concerns? 4. Did you discuss with your new doctor about lowering and/or taking you off your medication? 5.
Avatar n tn Clonidine, Glimepiride, Byetta, Metformin, Amlodipine, Crestor, and Losartan HCT. Is it possible that it could be these meds? Please help!! I'm working by tail off and still have a GUT. Thank you in advance.

(and this was after eating fried fish, w/tartar, green beans, cabbage, white roll and 44 oz. coke. i starting feeling real cold inside and "light". so i had a candy bar and coke. i called the dr.
Avatar f tn Doc has now increased the Metformin from 500mg twice daily to 1000 mg twice daily, but has left the Glimepiride at 1mg once daily (that low blood sugar reading was before the metformin had been incrased) Does my A1C number sound correct? Does the increase in metformin, but staying the same wiht the other med seem logical since my numbers had already come down with the lower dose of metformin and I had had a couple of instances of low blood sugar that caused symptoms?
Avatar n tn I then told him my little experiment and asked if we could switch to something else. We are experimenting with just Glimepiride 2 mg for two weeks to see how I do. My last 3 A1C were 6.5,6.3 and 6.2. I was able to exercise for 20 minutes on the stationary bike this morning for the first time in a year without my legs feeling like they were going to fail me. Thanks again, rmworrywart.
Avatar f tn Thanks for some more useful information. I am taking glimepiride 1mg a day for diabetes. My fasting sugat level is stable now a days at 100 mg/dL as compared to 320 mg/dL when it was diagnosed about 3 montha ago. Post meal about 2 hours after dinner is around 140-150 mg/dL. The b12 tested 3 months ago was 213 pg/ml and then tested again some 1 month back was 1180 pg/ml that is after taking couple of injections and daily oral supplements during that time.
Avatar f tn Had my gallbladder removed at 21 and history of dormant HSV-2 and early onset Type-2 diabetes, foot and ankle arthritis and mild disk degenerative disorder and fungal infections in both foot and hand nails. Since my early to mid 20's I have experienced overwhelming cramping & bloating after eating which results in both constipation and diarrhea. Cramps are so bad that it stiffen's my entire body until it passes and occurs usually within 5 minutes after eating.
Avatar m tn 67 year old male, type II diabetes; insulin dependent 10u 2x, A1C = 7.2, reasonably good health. I have a weak urine stream and great difficulty achieving orgasm. It takes multiple attempts to achieve orgasm, most of the time the pressure gets intense and just stops. All of my blood-work is mostly in the normal ranges. My testosterone levels have been low, so I inject 10mg of testosterone once a week in my glutus maximus to bring it into a normal range.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and started testing my blood glucose at home with the One Touch Ultra 2 monitor. The test strips that I've been given are pre-coded, so I do not have to do anything to my monitor prior to testing, other than insert the strip.
