1068689 tn?1325827206 My new doctor changed my prescriptions from regular Met to Met XR and added 2mg of Glimepiride. My BG's have been above 300 for last few months and nothing seems to get them down. Doc thinks this change should do it. I've only taken it twice now but since taking it I've been dizzy. Quite enough I need to lay down. I know it says this may be a side affect but does it go away? It brought my BG's down as I said from over 300 3 hrs after eating to 180 just now.
Avatar f tn Metforman is good Glimepiride not so much, Many people think that taking drugs that FORCE the pancreas to pump out more insulin only burns the pancreas up faster. As I said carbs raise BG what does he eat. the heat in the kitchen should not prevent him from controlling his BG. I found control was easier and better when I went on insulin.
Avatar n tn My doctor also prescribed me Glyburide. Looks like it is safe for pregnancy, you just have to watch out for signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia.
6452556 tn?1381422100 Diabetics dont make enough or cant use the insulin we make, by taking Glyburide it forces the pancreas to make more insulin. This allows the cells to use the BG and store more BG as fat thereby lowering BG.
Icecream The main concern I would have about the addition to Lantus 20 units daily would be the risk of low blood sugar, especially in combination with glimepiride. Both Lantus and glimepiride can cause low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. Just make sure you're watching for the signs of low blood sugar, which are, sudden headache, feeling shaky, and weakness. There are many more signs of hypoglycemia and I encourage you to research it more yourself.
Avatar f tn 5mg and im concern about what to eat one minute my sugar is high and then it will drop tremendously
604185 tn?1233960857 The reason I asked was my mother is a diabetic and is on glucaphage and the dietition said that those kinds of medicines are not an option when pregnant. If you truly are concerned I would try to speak with a diabetic nurse and she what she says some times there more knowledgeable in those areas than our doctors. Hope this is helpful.
183933 tn?1290216962 They feel this is more dangerous than unknown possible risks from glyburide. I have read that glyburide is considered very safe in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters but there has never been any study of the drug in pg women that I could find. If it makes you feel better, go ahead and ask your surrogate if she would switch to insulin at least for a month or two. That will give the babies time to finish all of those early developments that can be so sensitive.
Avatar f tn All my results have been under 120 for the 1st week and now my Dr said I need to take 5mg of Glyburide daily. I read alot of negative things about Glyburide during pregnancy so I told my Dr I would not take it. Now she says I will need to be on Insulin. Does anyone know if Glyburide or Insulin are appropriate if your glucose results are all under 120? I thought medication for gestational diabetes should only be given if the results are very high but again I'm not sure.
Avatar n tn And sometimes it has to do with insurance reimbursement. Metformin and glyburide are both relatively safe drugs with good historys used in moderation in with your physician's instructions, but each acts in a different way. Some physicians administer both at the same time. Another school of thought is to use one for a while, and then switch. I would ask him, but the change does not necessarily mean something bad has happened. You can look up the drugs.
Avatar m tn the drug glimepiride, is not making my blood sugar level lower; instead is higher 250! I am taking 2mg twice a day. My doctor says all is OK.
Avatar m tn I am now up to 25 units of lantus and 1000 in the AM and 500 in the PM of metformin. I have liver issues and maybe the IR is playing into this. Anyone have any insight into this?
Avatar n tn I take Metformin 1000 mg twice a day and Glyburide 5 mg in the AM and 2.5 in the PM. Sometimes the Glyburide lowers my blood sugar too much particularly if I don't eat something a few hours after taking my meds. As you mention my blood sugar will only be in the 80-90 range and I start to experience hypoglycemic symptoms. Fatique, palpitations, sweating, shaking, feeling of dread...just a general awful feeling. Mnay times I do have a racing heart and a rate of 120-160 BPM is common.
Avatar n tn After this happened a couple of times I quit taking the Metformin. About a year later I was then diagnosed with T2 and am now on Glimepiride and have since began having these episodes again. They begin in the jaw area primarily the glands just below my jaws, with a sting/tingling that intensifies and radiates out all around my ears, neck throat and surface of my chest, and my upper torso goes ice cold. This takes place any where from a 30 second to a 3 minute cycle.
Avatar f tn Is anybody here taking glyburide medicine while pregnant? I went to my appt this morning my OBGYN Dr is away for 2 weeks and she'll be back on dec 15.. The OBGYN that I saw this morning prescribe me medicine glyburide for gestation diabetes he said it's safe for pregnant woman to take it but my OBGYN told me the only safe medicine that I can take is insulin specially that I'm a high risk, I had 2 miscarriage in the past and I'm really scared and don't know what to do...
Avatar m tn Please do not put off calling your doc today. I looked up Amaryl (glimepiride) and it is used by type 2 diabetics to lower glucose levels. There's a discussion going on in this forum about type 2, after long periods of time (how long is unk), reversing into type 1 diabetics. In your case it seems you are combating low glucose levels and may have a flipped 180ยบ. Let us know what your docs says. You will help a lot of readers by posting your history if you did turn into a type 1.
Avatar f tn I failed my three hour and they had me on a diet and checking my blood sugar 4x a day. Plus I see a perinatalogist to checkon baby and make sure he's growing right. The diet didn't work for me like they wanted it to so I was put on glyburide twice a day. It's nothing to worry about really. It's just a pain to check your sugars all the time and not being able to give in to cravings is hard sometimes.
Avatar f tn My fetal specialist is putting me on glyburide for my fasting sugars being to high! Has anyone else had to take this an everything was OK with the baby????
Avatar f tn I am 12 years as diabetic 2. my is before breakfast solosamet 2/500mg and after breakfast I have trajenta 5mg, candez 5mg and glitaz 15mg then before dinner I have solosamet 2/500mg after dinner I have Roswin 15mg and I have high sgpt of 96 reading my question is that my higher sgpt reading is cause by my medication?
Avatar f tn ve been on weekly visits thru out pregnancy and am now on biweekly nst appointments. I am on glyburide 2.5mg 2x a day and have to be really strict with my diet. I was terrified at first cause of the risks to baby. I had a long discussion with my ob dr, a perinatal specialist, and a pediatrician. Risk of stillborn is mostly if you go past 38wks and levels are not strictly controlled. Hence why inductions or c-section are scheduled more for diabetics.
Avatar n tn what is the worst that could happen to me IF IM NOT BIABETIC and ive taken the drug Glyburide-Metformin Oral? im experiencing cold sweats blurred vision and hunger. Is this an emergency? i took it aronund ten hours ago and now im still feeling the side effects. will this go away and is my blood sugar permanently damaged? im 27 history of common allergies and no allergies to drugs. i take adderall for adhd. what should i do?
Avatar f tn Midwife always stated that cervix was closed and tight, baby was fine and stop having sex. My sugars were controlled by diet & glyburide 2.5mg BID. My BP was never controlled! Ran from 146/85 to 150/90 to 180/103. Took Methyldopa 500mg BID up until 20wks when Labetelol 200mg BID was added at my request for better control. W/Labetelol the BP went down, but #'s were still 138/80. Had headaches, blurry vision, saw stars and pelvic pain. I was seen once month by the MFM & OB.
Avatar n tn It'll most likely be at 37 weeks if they see a need at the earliest. Glyburide... I'm wondering why you were prescribed that over insulin. Even my new Ob thought it bad of the old Ob since it's category c and insulin is better and safer overall. And typically enough are taken off it 2 weeks before birth... And I'm now 38 and was 36.5 when it was prescribed. Are your fasting numbers the issue? I found that a slice of gf bread (12g carbs) and peanut butter (1.
