That happened to me with metformin and my doctor switched me to glipizide. Now my numbers are going in the right direction. I think you need to complain to your doctor and find what works for you.

I routinely have blood sugars in the 150 range my A!C has been 7.7 and 8.2. I was suppose to have some foot surgery, but it was cancel because of the A1c. It is the 1st time I was told I couldn't have surgery because of the diabetes. My regular doctor signed off on me having surgery. The foot surgeon wouldn't do it. I just didn't think my blood sugar level was of any concern.

Eventually I went on 1000mg twice a day Janumet, and 2.5XL Glipizide, it worked for a while. I recently gained 8 lbs. but not sure it was the glipizide. On my second day of Victoza, so far ok. Interested to hear what kind of reaction you had to Victoza.

I was doing well enough after 6 months to be taken off the Insulin, and the Dr added the Glimepiride to the Met. It controlled my sugar fairly well - A1C was never higher than 7.1, and is currently 6.8 - which the Dr is thrilled at for me only having half a pancreas... I still have highs (300) and lows (49), but overall not bad. If I were you, I would TRY ALL avenues with oral meds before making the decision with your Dr. to start Insulin shots.

My new doctor changed my prescriptions from regular Met to Met XR and added 2mg of Glimepiride. My BG's have been above 300 for last few months and nothing seems to get them down. Doc thinks this change should do it. I've only taken it twice now but since taking it I've been dizzy. Quite enough I need to lay down. I know it says this may be a side affect but does it go away? It brought my BG's down as I said from over 300 3 hrs after eating to 180 just now.

is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor

Metforman is good Glimepiride not so much, Many people think that taking drugs that FORCE the pancreas to pump out more insulin only burns the pancreas up faster. As I said carbs raise BG what does he eat. the heat in the kitchen should not prevent him from controlling his BG. I found control was easier and better when I went on insulin.

I am a type 2 diabetic and I concerned about fasting (religious) and taking glipizide. I have been on metformin for over 14 years and have had to recently add glucotrol to my regimen. I do not have any low blood sugar symptoms at all and I am scared of the time I have to restrain from eating. Is any one else ever dealt with this?

I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. The main concern I would have about the addition to Lantus 20 units daily would be the risk of low blood sugar, especially in combination with glimepiride. Both Lantus and glimepiride can cause low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. Just make sure you're watching for the signs of low blood sugar, which are, sudden headache, feeling shaky, and weakness. There are many more signs of hypoglycemia and I encourage you to research it more yourself.

Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.

After this happened a couple of times I quit taking the Metformin. About a year later I was then diagnosed with T2 and am now on Glimepiride and have since began having these episodes again. m a 22 year old with steroid induced diabetes and my blood sugar has been in the lows of 42-60, I ate and had some glucose gel which brought it into the 80's but about an hour later it dropped again to 42 where I had symptoms of extreme hunger, shakiness,heaviness in my legs and sweating. I am on 3 tablets a day of each of Glipizide (5mg) and Metformin (500mg). I take the Glipizide equally spaced out during the day but the Metformin one at lunchtime and two with my evening meal as instructed.

am now taking glipizide 5 mg along with colestipol 1gr twice daily and gabapentin 300mg 3 times daily and my blood sugar levels are staying high. Please do not put off calling your doc today. I looked up Amaryl (glimepiride) and it is used by type 2 diabetics to lower glucose levels. There's a discussion going on in this forum about type 2, after long periods of time (how long is unk), reversing into type 1 diabetics. In your case it seems you are combating low glucose levels and may have a flipped 180º. Let us know what your docs says. You will help a lot of readers by posting your history if you did turn into a type 1.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year prior to HCV. I've used metformin, glipizide and actos (pioglitizone) for eight years now for DM2 management; including during both HCV treatments. I was eventually successful with interferon therapy, for what it's worth. I can't comment on the victoza; I have no personal experience with it. Reducing insulin resistance might be critical to succesful inteferon-based therapy as well.

I have recently been prescribed Metformin for type 2 diabetes and have gone from 500 mg to 1,500 mg per day. A1C and glucose is worsening despite higher dose and strict diet, exercise. I'm a novice when it comes to diabetes so I could use some help. I'm on 2.5mg of Glipizide and have been for about four years. My doctor discourages blood glucose testings -- says that's only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high.

My MD switched me to Glimeperide my BG is good but my appetite and weight have increased a lot. Any one have the same issues? Also, my vision is fluctuating from blurry to sharp during the day, I do have Myasthenia Gravis which can have vision issues too. Any comments?
