Avatar n tn Hi guys, I just told that I have gestational diabetes and I am 26 week of pregnant. Any advice on what to eat or do in order to bring that sugar level down, I don't want to do the insulin because it sounds too scary to inject something in your abdomen while pregnant. Help please! !
Avatar f tn I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my daughter. I was able to control it with diet.
Avatar f tn I think the thing that worries me most during pregnancy is gestational diabetes because it can cause some pretty serious complications, especially for the birth. So my question is - is there anything I can be doing to help prevent GD? A certain diet? Or is this something that just develops regardless of what you do? I never had it my other pregnancies but my last pregnancy I was close to the cutoff.
Avatar f tn My 2 hour GTT came back abnormally high, so I did the 3 hour/4 blood tests GTT last week. My OB said my blood sugar is so high that I will more than likely need insulin. I'm going to see an Endocrynologist this Wednesday. I've been trying to follow a gestaional diabetes diet plan I found online, and since I have been limiting sugar and carbs for the past 6 days, I have lost 6 pounds. My total pregnancy weight gain is now only 11 pounds and I'm 30 weeks 3 days pregnant.

Avatar f tn It helps your heart and mind and body, as well as the babies, and assists you in curbing things like gestational diabetes along with a healthy diet. Unless you've been told not to exercise by your doctor, it's really important to at least do low impact work outs just like taking a nightly stroll in the neighborhood.
Avatar f tn My midwife said today that she thinks i might have gestational diabetes,i have to go for further tests tomorrow. can anyone tell me what this is and how it affects my baby?
Avatar f tn ) when you get put on a diet for your GD, they will try to control it with a diet at first, and it will be a very strict low-carb diet. The carbs is what gets your blood sugar levels elevated. Carbs turn into sugar after they are digested, and if you have GD, excessive amounts of carbs can cause extra sugar to not get digested by your pancreas, and it just floats around in your blood stream. Not too lovely. I wouldn't worry too much though.
5898681 tn?1392221010 Diet soda is a no no during pregnancy. It has aspartame in it. My dr said no artificial sweeteners!
Avatar f tn It's very normal. I have gestational diabetes and I've gained 12 pounds and I'm almost 36 weeks pregnant. If you're following your diet, that's why you're not gaining a ton of weight. Only be concerned if your doctor is.
Avatar f tn Hi ladies I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant with my first and I have gestational diabetes. The doctor has told me that my baby is 6lbs!! But I've still got another month to go!!! He said that my baby could be born of around 9-10lbs. My baby is still breached and the doctor is afraid he won't fix it self because he almost doesn't have enough room in there. Has any of you ever gotten diabetes with your pregnancy? If so when you had you baby how much did it weight?
Avatar f tn They may also give you a glucometer and show you how to properly use it. I have type 2 diabetes and as long as I am not pregnant I can control it with diet alone. If you have any questions you can email me on here.
Avatar f tn So I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes today. I've never been a diabetic before I got pregnant, but it does run in my family. What can I eat. And do I have to give up on foods I crave like I do crave sweets. Also will my baby be ok ?
Avatar f tn Hi i have gestational diabetes too. I am 30 weeks pregnant. Don't let it worry you guys. Stress will only make things worse. Tell your wife to exercise 30 mins everyday and have a good diet. I'm sure hospital and midwife will look after her too. I have been walking atleast 10 mins everyday and eating healthy and i am doing preety good with my diabetes.
Avatar n tn Oh I hate glucose tolerance tests! Not only is fasting (especially while pregnant) a pain but the stuff they have you drink is gross. That said, the test is normal and necessary. It is usually done around 28 weeks gestation but can be done earlier if there is a family history of diabetes or if the woman has had gestational diabetes in a previous pregnancy.
183933 tn?1290216962 She usually does get gestational diabetes when she is nearing the end of her second trimester. She is now 7 1/2 weeks pregnant and is already getting diabetes. It started around 5 1/2 weeks. Around that time she tested her blood sugar levels at home and her numbers were around 280. I know for about a week they were pretty high, centering around that number. Now she is 7 1/2 weeks along and her numbers are around 125. That is all controlled from her diet.
Avatar f tn They will send you to a nutritionist and they will pit you on a diet. If you don't go by your diet it could effect the baby. Not sure how it will because I stayed on my diet but you also have bigger babies with gestational diabetes. I'm pregnant again and I have type 2 diabetes now.
Avatar f tn I had my son a day before his due date with gestational diabetes. I was diet controlled so did not have to take insulin or anything. My baby was normal weight 7 lb 5 oz.

231441 tn?1333892766 He has referred me to a dietician for a gestational diabetes diet. I will probably see the dietician tomorrow (after I collect the referral from Doc Mike's office). I am required to monitor blood sugar 4 times a day: fasting and 2 hours after each meal. Hope this dietician is going to be smart enough to pull it all together particular considering my diet has to be gluten free.

Avatar f tn Also, if you do the three hour test and its determined you have gestational diabetes, the doc will put you on a diet. You can look up a diet plan on the Internet and save time and money. I don't think there are meds to control this either. I have cut out a lot of sweets from my diet. I actually feel a lot better. I felt weak and tired a lot before. I guess this was partly why.
Avatar f tn I've had two gestational diabetes pregnancies. I did have to regulate my sugar with meds because diet alone wasn't enough. Both of my babies were born healthy and under 8lbs.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with the pregnant diabetes, and was wondering what you already mommies could tell me about it if you experienced it, and what you did to keep yourselves regular.. Very nervous for my baby and still a month and a half to go.
