Avatar f tn I am due Feb 24 and have been avoiding the glucose test because of personal reasons. My doctor finall have me an ultimatum last week that if I wanted to do VBAC, I had to do the gestational diabetes screening. My one-hour level came back at 135 and now they want me to do the 3-hour test. I CANT!!! I was so sick, dizzy and weak from the 1-hour screening that I know I won't be able to do the 3-hour test.
Avatar n tn In general, if your blood sugar level is below 100 mg / dL after fasting for at least 8 to 10 hours, then your blood sugar is normal. Blood sugar levels are usually lowest before each meal.
Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.
Avatar f tn I am currently 18 weeks and I had my blood work done and my doctor told me my blood sugar level was at 169 and that it was really high. I went back in yesterday and did some more blood work to check if its still the same and I won't hear my results until this coming Thursday. I'm really scared & nervous that I can have gestational diabetes. This is my first pregnancy and I'm only 21 years old. Has anyone had gestational diabetes during pregnancy?

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop in some women late in pregnancy (usually after the 24th week). Women who develop gestational diabetes do not have diabetes before becoming pregnant. Avatar f tn I have found that the Healthy Choice meals are great, make monitoring my carb intake so easy to manage. I also only had one elevated level (my fasting level) so this can be controlled thru diet.

Avatar n tn Hi guys, I just told that I have gestational diabetes and I am 26 week of pregnant. Any advice on what to eat or do in order to bring that sugar level down, I don't want to do the insulin because it sounds too scary to inject something in your abdomen while pregnant. Help please! !
Avatar f tn Hello ladies. I'm 28 weeks pregnant and was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Hearing the news devastated me. This is my first pregnancy and I know it may sound cliché but I prayed for a normal pregnancy. So now I'm worried because I know if the diabetes gets out of control it can lead to insulin shots and can effect the baby. Have any of you ladies gone through this? Or are currently dealing with this? How are you copping?

Avatar f tn High blood pressure, preeclampsia and eclampsia. Gestational diabetes increases your risk of developing high blood pressure during your pregnancy. It also raises your risk of preeclampsia and eclampsia — two serious complications of pregnancy that cause high blood pressure and other symptoms that can threaten the lives of both mother and baby. Future diabetes. If you have gestational diabetes, it's more likely to happen again during a future pregnancy.
Avatar f tn If you have gestational diabetes your level is not allowed higher than 140 one hour after a meal. Rules for pregnant women are much stricter than for others. Additionally you can't take the pills as they are not allowed if you're pregnant. You will have to do the shots. I don't know what's wrong with you people. We all want to have healthy babies. Why not do everything and anything for them? Eat healthy, quit sugar and smoking, switch on your brains.
8266573 tn?1403137275 I have gestational diabetes and my blood level only goes up when I ate something wrong. I just have to monitor myself and take notes on what I ate that caused it. If it's over 200 that's to high but you should be ok.
910435 tn?1296748610 I had a blood test done and it shows my glucose level to be low at 68 (range 80-110). Is it normal for your glucose levels to be low at certain times during the day, i.e., if you haven't eaten for a couple hours, etc.? I have a couple auto-immune diseases and have had gestational diabetes. It runs in the family. I just don't know what is considered a red flag when tested. Thanks for any advice!
325405 tn?1262290178 I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that. I also know that gestational diabetes is more strict with blood sugar levels than regular type II diabetes. Now that I have type II, what are the ranges to aim for for blood sugar levels for fasting and then for 2 hours after a meal?
Avatar f tn I just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes.... anyone have any information? Will this harm my baby?
2186195 tn?1339430622 So i found out about a week and a half ago I have gestational diabetes. I saw the nutritionist and she gave me a diet to follow. she gave me ideas on what foods to eat, but basically said I can eat anything just watch the carbs. I am supposed to eat 30carbs for breakfast, 60carbs for lunch and dinner, and 3 snacks that are 30carbs each. I am to check my blood sugar 4 times a day, and it should stay between 60-90 in the morning and 90-120 all day.
Avatar f tn My obgyn office says I have gestational diabetes, even though my blood sugars (tested for a week because I refused the glucose test) are within range of non-diabetic pregnant women according to the American Diabetes Association. I don't shoot up and down either, my sugars are fairly steady. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do?
Avatar f tn So I failed the 3 hour glucose test and they said I have gestational diabetes, I have been keeping track of what I eat , highest my blood sugar has been was 170 and that was 1 hour after eating some cereal with honey normal rang it has been running tho is 85 to 100. They say baby is fine and at the right growth rate but they keep freaking me out with this , if baby is fine I'm fine I have always eaten healthy and didn't have this with my first pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Just found out I have gestational diabetes.... Does anyone have any tips or advice???
Avatar f tn Nothing to be afraid of... they are just making sure you dont have gestational diabetes. If the level were high during the 1 hour, then they will send you back for the 3. Same thing happened to me...
3104777 tn?1363885649 Gestational diabetes is just that, it does not mean you will have diabetes after giving birth. If you fail the test, I would retest, it's inaccurate a lot of the time.
Avatar f tn At my practice they only do the 3 hour because so many women fail the 1 hr test.
Avatar f tn I currently found out I have gestational diabetes, just got my set today.. it's kind of depressing for me.. I know it will leave with the placenta once I have my baby. just want to know if anyone else is going through this? I'm 35 weeks today!
