Yes he had tourettes as a kid, but like many poeple with tourettes his ticks have changed or worsened/gotten better over time. He has taken medication for his ticks for about twenty or so years. I completely agree that many of his reactions and demeanors are effects of medication that have evolved over time (the first medication he was ever put on was Lithium, at a very high dose).

He did have a head injury but we were told all was OK. We now believe he is showing signs of Tourettes. There is no Tourettes in our family. Could he have developed Tourettes 7 years later from the head injury? And if so, does it change anything as far as treatment or expected outcome?

Hi, I had Tourettes as a child. Almost always Tourettes develops between the childhood to teenage years. I was around 11 or 12 when I developed it. The good thing is most people outgrow the syndrome. I blinked my eyes with out control. I wasn't even aware of the fact that I was doing it and family and friends would have to point it out to me. I finally became aware of the blinking and would make efforts to not blink them..the desire to blink them was almost reisistable.

Is there any connection between Parkinsons and Tourettes? I have Parkinsons and my grandson has Tourettes. Both can be treated with deep brain stimulation. They both involve dopamine. Has anyone studied the relationship?

Hi. I know often Tourettes exists in people alongside other conditions like OCD, ADHD etc so perhaps your daughter has also got a behavioural condition as well as Tourettes? It's definitely likely unless she is just feeling tense from coping with Tourettes but you said these behaviours were present before the Tourettes appeared. I think it would be a good idea to get this checked as well because if there is a condition there a diagnosis will be the most beneficial thing to help you.

thank you for the info on Lamictal, but does anyone take Geodon? I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better,but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.

I had tourettes as a kid. I had rapid eye blinking without being aware I was even doing it. My Tourettes was a mild case and went away after a year or so. After the kids at school so cruely made me aware of what I was doing, I made efforts to be aware of blinking my eyes. Even now, at57 yrs old, I sometimes stop and think, am I blinking my eyes.

Her neuro thinks hers is transient tic syndrome. I think they are tourettes. We are currently investigating these things. I also got her a therapist to help her deal with these things. I also try not to bring attention to her tics. It does look as if she does some of this on purpose but its not. Stressful situations will make hers worse. Does your son have a neurologist? Have you thought of taking him to one? I hope all goes well with you.

I was recently told i may have tourettes due to vocal and motor tics. The tics include spasming of multiple areas of my body and occasionally making an indecipherable sound. I had these on occasion when I was a kid, but they have worsened over the past year. I also have body pain and lack of coordination that has been getting worse. I also was seen in the er for blurred vision not long ago and this is still a problem even with glasses. Anyone have any ideas?

So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.

I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.

Anyone ever taken geodon with serequel?( rapid weight gain Being wean off geodon from 80 twice a day now 40 twice a day. If I stop taking geodon will I be able to lose weight? Do serequel cause weight gain? (200 at bed time) It sure helps me sleep.Dr will replace geodon with Lamictal and tompamax. Thanks for any feed back.

i have a 8 year old son that has adhd,odd,ocd and aspergers while now his ped is thinking that he may also have tourettes. he does have alot of tics and wierd outbursts but i thought it was b/c of all the other problems that he is having. my question is how do i find a right dr to evaluate him and what causes this, or is it that he was born with it? and what are the long term problems with this syndrome?

That actually appears to be one side effect of Geodon but given that all (current) antipsychotics have anti-cholinergic side effects that could happen with any antipsychotic and given that people react differently to each one perhaps it was the medication you were transferred to rather than the Geodon helping it as Geodon is less likely to cause anti-cholinergic effects than some other antipsychotics.

Hi, i have had Tourettes Syndrome since i was six years old. I haven't really paid much attention too it because it was mild, and it would come and go. I have two half-sisters with TS also. I was just wondering, does TS get worse over time? My tics are pretty much just mild. Ex: soft humming, blinking eyes too much, squeezing muscles in throat (for some reason, things that people cant really notice that much).

i felt mild but manageable chills on 20 mg geodon, 4 mg perphenazine, then my psychiatrist let me take zero mg geodon and 4 mg perphenazine. upon one day of taking zero mg geodon and 4 mg perphenazine i felt terrible chills up my spine. so i started taking 20 mg's geodon again. that didnt help, still the chills. so on the same day i took another 20 mg geodon, still the same chills.

150 milligrams of trazadone at bedtime, 120 milligrams of geodon at bedtime, 1milligram 3 times a day of lorazapam and 150 milligrams of wellbutrin 2 times a day.

The only thing Geodon did for me when I withdrew from it was give me violent hallucinations which landed me in the hospital. I was extremely skinny anyway because I'm on Topamax for alcohol abstinence; my dosage was increased; lost a little more which came back when I was put on Seroquel. Anyway, depending on what you were on the Geodon for, ask your doctor about going on Topamax. Weight loss is a side effect.

I am bipolar 2 with PTSD. I was on Geodon, risperdal and lithium. The geodon was added last, and the risperdal was weaning down. I took it when it was new. For a few months, I did okay with it and didn't really have any problems. It was stopped because it eventually caused perceptual,,, especially visual, disturbances all of a sudden, and I ended up misjudging the freeway and drove my car over the embankment.

My father has Tourettes...and has been a heavy drug user most of his life (Not in recent years now though)...he's told me he's done the hard stuff like heroin, acid (while constructing high story buildings!) and so on. He was a constant marijuana smoker, and i do believe he was smoking it when i was conceived. He also beat my mother while pregnant with me. Does anyone know or think this would of had an effect on my development?

The ONLY time I feel stable is about 45 minutes to an hour after I take the Lamictal at night. When I get up in the morning, I am confused, tired (exhausted), paranoid, racing thoughts, severe anxiety, naseous (I have lost over 50 pounds in six months (a lot because I can't eat during the day). The loss of appetite is about the same time that I took Geodon. I'm now off of Geodon. The symptoms haven't improved. I really haven't felt well for about a year.

I was diagnosed with febrile seizures when i was about one week old too. I developed tourettes when i was 4 years old and i am now 29. Im actually starting to think that, it is this medication phenobarbital which caused my tourettes from the beginning. None of my patent or grand parentes has tics or tourettes. Im looking into it and i have found ar least two studies that strenghtens my cause.

ive been on geodon... about a lil over a year and in the residental im in they wont give me a direct connection about stopping meds.. im also on cogentin with geodon and zoloft. so i brought it upon myself to cut cold turkey.. i have been off since sat... its now tues. ivebeen experiencing dizziness and other feelings.. what does stopping geodon cold turkey do to you?

I took Geodon but not with Triliptal also. I was allergic to Geodon, but that was my body.

I got put on geodon almost 2 weeks ago, I am not sure if it is working for me me but I have actually lost weight since taking it. I was on remeron and that made me gain weight, then he just did change my meds and diagnosed me borderline bipolar. I hope that helps you, I would try it for atleast a month good luck!
