Geodon side effects weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon side effects weight gain

geodon

Avatar f tn Now that I have stopped taking Geodon, I would like to know if anyone out there has been through the same experience with weight gain AND if weight loss is a side effect of coming off of Geodon? If not, is it easier to lose weight once you are off of the medication? I have my mind back and now I want my body back! Hope to hear some good news!
Avatar f tn soooo i switched from abilify to geodon bcuz of my weight gain does any1 take geodon??? if so how r the side effects???
Avatar f tn Geodon is known to cause weight gain and I have experienced weight gain on both Depakote and Seroquel and requested that my psychiatrist discontinue both medications, which he did do. The bright side however, is tat with propeer diet and exercise the weight did come off and I had gained 40 pounds. The problem is finding the right medication or combination thereof that will control your symptoms and not cause weight gain.
Avatar n tn To the poster on Abilify -- you should research drugs and not just think about them because they're getting a lot of advertising. Abilify is only approved for depression when all other meds have failed. It has a high side effect profile, and is usually used for augmentation, not stand alone.
497950 tn?1255863927 I was on Geodon after Abilify made me gain weight. The Geodon , for me, didn't work for bipolar symptoms but I am a diificult case. Abilify was the only med that worked. However, I did loose weight on Geodon and for the 2st couple weeks had an usdet stomach. If this drug works for you, and you know it's trial error for us anyway, I think you'll be please with the lack of side effects. I didn't even know I was on it after a week.
Avatar f tn ve been trying to figure out what is the difference between Geodon and Latuda in terms of side effects like weight gain and anxiety problems. On Seroquel XR my anxiety was completely under control but I did feel like a zombie a lot of the time and needed at least 10 hour sleep.
390140 tn?1219883889 Someone said that it felt like speed. It does. I was only on it for 10 days. My doc ignored the side effects I;m having and now have to take benzos around the clock....i'm considering a lawsuit against the doc and/or the manufacturer. I work as an RN but because of the seizure and tremors I have, I can't work.
Avatar f tn For instance, if you have psychosis with your episodes, and atypical antipsychotic might be a good place to start, but most of them can cause weight gain. Geodon is the exception, being weight neutral (and Abilify is almost as good apparently from the weight standpoint). If you're BP II, especially if you're mostly depressive, Lamictal is a great place to start, and is weight neutral.
Avatar f tn I didn't gain weight on Geodon whatsoever but I have on Abilify but Abilify is supposed to be the one that causes the least amount of weight gain according to everyone I talked to about it including my psychiatrist. This isn't the case for me but I guess medicines work differently for everyone..
Avatar f tn Which is worse bipolar one or two. And has anyone taken geodon. If so what side effects did you have.
642393 tn?1227032656 Abilify has a lot of information on the web about side effects and a quick google may work well, always remember that side effects are not all going to happen to you or even likely - Abilify is well liked and fairly safe compared to some of the AP and AC drugs like Geodon and Risperdal.
Avatar f tn unfortunately, this question is inappropriate, without discarouging you, but usually, what matters first is to find a certain combo that works, and that is given 1st priroity. true lamictal is known not to add weight but 1st whether you shall get satisfied with. lamictal or not, however it is also known to give the least side effects. i know a person on depakote, and although it is known to cause weight gain and hair loss he neither suffered from any of them.
Avatar f tn Geodon is a great mood stabilizer for many people. It has a low incidence of weight gain and very few side effects. I was on it for 4 weeks but unfortunately it didn't work for me but most people have success with it. I switched to Abilify and it works great for me!
Avatar n tn Yes Seroquel like all currently available antipsychotics can cause weight gain and the potential of diabetes. I did gain weight on Seroquel as I did with other antipsychotics. You could ask your doctor about a specific diet that would help you cut back sugar and carbohydrates and help reduce weight and regular exercise is essential as well.
5032487 tn?1365824021 I understand Lamictal is good for this. No weight gain and no side effects, however can also have the opposite effect and may make depression worse. I am not bipolar but have been doing research since my husband was diagnosed. Definitely talk with your doctor. Best of luck!
202665 tn?1248806733 Geodon can cause side effects such as you mentioned and I could not tolerate it either. Abilify can be activating for some people. That's not uncommon. The two newest antipsychotics that I believe were approved as mood stabilizers are Fanapt and Saphris but I have never tried those so I am not personally familiar with their side effect profile.
Avatar m tn what mood stasblizer wont cause weight gain if any??? exclude serquil and lithiem and topamax..cant do these already been on them..
Avatar n tn my daughter gained weight on effexor, but she needed to, I am on zoloft and my appitite is a lot less now, I think its giving me migranes though. I would do anything to loose weight, but stop eating apparently, its an addiction like anything else.
Avatar f tn Anyone ever taken geodon with serequel?( rapid weight gain Being wean off geodon from 80 twice a day now 40 twice a day. If I stop taking geodon will I be able to lose weight? Do serequel cause weight gain? (200 at bed time) It sure helps me sleep.Dr will replace geodon with Lamictal and tompamax. Thanks for any feed back.
Avatar n tn Actually the Cogentin and Inderal (a blood pressure medication) might causing the memory loss but they are used to control extra-pyramidal side effects and are necccesary for that. Those are movement disorders that are temporary but he is also at risk for permanent conditions such as tardive dyskinesia which I have and in myself is as bad as Parkinsons and can emerge after the antipsychotic masks it while it is progressing. It is irreversible.
Avatar n tn The older mood stabelizers almost always have weight gain as a side effect, however, not everyone gains weight on the drugs. You really won't know until you try and if you see 5 pounds come on, then you can ask your doc to change your meds before you have 20 or 30 pounds to loose. 5 is easy. Good luck, I hope you find the right med the first try!!
440120 tn?1211724496 I take Abilify and it had less side effects than the Geodon I took before it. It did cause me to gain weight however and doesn't work as good as the Geodon did in some aspects but works better in others. Abilify disrupts my sleep as well much like ILADVOCATE experienced but it also sedates me at the same time.
202665 tn?1248806733 I have had a lot pf psychotic symptoms along with the bipolar disorder, and the Geodon really helped keep those at bay. I had few side effects, except once in a while, I did feel kind of like a zombie. It didn't cause any weight gain, which was nice. When I did stop it, it was because I was starting to have problems with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), and I wanted to try the non-antipsychotic approach for a while. I hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I got put on geodon almost 2 weeks ago, I am not sure if it is working for me me but I have actually lost weight since taking it. I was on remeron and that made me gain weight, then he just did change my meds and diagnosed me borderline bipolar. I hope that helps you, I would try it for atleast a month good luck!
Avatar f tn I took several different medications, Lithium, Lexapro, Prozac, Geodon, to name a few and had horrible side effects of weight gain and extremely lethargic. Even after having 3 children I was always very small, 5'8" and at my biggest 130 lbs, well until medication. Within 2 years my weight had sky rocketed to over 200 lbs. And I would literally have trouble most of the day keeping my eyes open.
20850242 tn?1536178425 Look, your drug regimen is probably allowing you to have a life. But it's also got to be faced that it isn't sustainable for you. If what you're taking is causing constant diarrhea, you're not absorbing the nutrients from the little food you're allowing yourself to eat.
