This referral from medication to medication without rhyme or reason is insanity. Your psychiatric nurse needs a spanking. During that time expose your skin to sunlight for at least an hour a day. You should be exposed to 45 minutes of sunlight every morning between 6 A.M. and 9 A.M.

I am not on any other medication, and yet I keep on gaining weight. Does all the anti psychotic make you gain weight? Is there any anti psychotic that doesn't make you gain weight?
) Has anyone tried any medicines that didn't cause weight gain and didn't cost a fortune. I am on Abilify right now but I am very quickly going to have to change because my insurance isn't that great and it cost me $100. I am on Neurontin and Celexa right now which is great but I can still feel myself going up and down all the time. Or even if I have to go back on Zyprexa has anyone NOT gained weight on it? People told me I would gain weigh on Celexa and I haven't.

He needs to be checked up on frequently. It is worth the trouble and the cost to take his problems seroiusly. Wish you luck!
Supposedly the 2 newer ones Geodon and Abilify cause the least amount of weight gain if any. I read about them in a study and the best was Geodon with no incidence of weight gain, and Abilify had very little chance of weight gain. The older drugs tend to cause more weight gain. However; having said that I attended a Bipolar support group meeting and we voted on this issue and only one out of 22 people would rather be sick than be healthy and gain a few pounds.
A lot of the times she seemed full of life, energetic, laughing, a loving, wonderful mother and then the depression would just hit out of no where, it seemed like clockwork, once or twice a year it would come and my mother would go from this beautiful laughing woman to this person with no emotion, no energy to get up and get dressed and get out of bed.But then her medication doses would be increased or she would be put on a different medication and she would be okay.
You don't call using Canadian Pharmacies cheaper when in the US my Geodon cost $1500 a month when I could get generic Geodon for about $600 for 3 mths? What pharmacy were you using???
My doctor has me on Geodon and Lamictal. I've been taking the Geodon for about 6 months and the Lamictal for the last 2 months. Now in the past month I have had enormous trouble swallowing. It feels like my esophagus has closed in compared to how it was before. I am getting chokes every time I eat something solid. Anyone else having this trouble?
I hope I'll be able to find somone to fit that bill as my health insurance will at best pay 50% of the cost. Everything mental health wise is privitized, farmed out to corporations. As in most states our legislators control the budget and mental health sadly is pretty far down on the list.
I also agree with monkeyc pointing out the importance of educating yourself on any medication that is suggested to you. There are many contra-indications with mood stabilizers and other medications, also with some mood stabilizers certain foods are a definite no go area, for instance I was recently put on to carbamazepine and it was only through my own research that I discovered that I musn't have grapefruit and also that hormone contraceptions are decreased!
Yeah, I would talk to your doctor. I really don't know much about schizophrenia and medication, other than it is helpful in the psychotic part. Maybe there is something out there that is better. They psychiatrist at my work did say it is an older medicine, though, so it could well be that there is something better now. There have been great advances in treating schizophrenia, so just stick to it and everything will work out.
Hello, I would like to first say that this may be the wrong forum since I never did abuse this medication. I was given this medicine about 1 year ago and was prescribed as needed. As needed turned out to 1 5mg valium per day and has been that way for an extremely long time. Anyone have any suggestions on quitting this? I tried to drop down to 2.5mg per day and I got so extremely shaky that I thought I was going to have a seizure. My panic disorder was hitting me super hard on the 2.
Other commonly prescribed anit-depressants for folks treating for Hep C include Lexapro, Zoloft and Prozac (which is now available as a generic if cost is an issue.) I've also seen Geodon prescribed for some severe cases, but it is very pricey.
Let's see...geodon, thyroid, wellbutrin, provigil, clonazepam, and ambien. I don't like that I'm on so many medications, but I do like the results that I'm getting. I've never felt better in my life (except that my anxiety has been acting up lately). I'm sorry to hear about your weight gain, but just wanted to be an encouragement to you that you can lose weight. If you do what weight watchers says, I think it will work.
Hi, I'm new here and have been suffering from bipolar for nearly half a year now, although I see my doctor every month and have been having counciling, although it helps sometimes but I feel that it's not enough and that I sometimes feel worse after some of the session that I have been to.
THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT ADVISE..THE NEW MED I STARTED IS GEODON..USED FOR MOOD STABILIZATION...SO HOPE IT WORKS...MY CBC'S AND LIVER FUNCTION TESTS HAVE BEEN NORMAL FOR AWHILE. WHEN DOC DID THE OTHER TESTS MY READING WAS 4 MILLION..COULD THAT BE RIGHT??
Weaver, I don't know anything about the medication but I can absolutely relate to you on the feelings you describe. I guess I'm bipolar also. Some of mine: I wake up in the morning and I have 2 boxes of things to play with- the good things or the bad things. On the bad days I'll pick apart a conversation and dwell on just what I conceive as bad parts and proceed to build it up into a monster all day. And that causes a domino effect on anything and everything else that happens that day.
I would agree with that coment about creativity although of course it depends on the particular medication but each person responds differently to each medication. I will leave out any discussion on the antipsychotic agent I am on now since it is in Phase II FDA study but I do remember when I started on the standard atypical antipsychotics such as Risperdal and Seroquel that they not only help mitigate psychotic thoughts but also helped with relating to people and processing information.
hi.. im a twelve years old girl and i think i may be bipolar.. i have, like u said, severe mood swings; one second im laughing, the other i feel like not beeing alive.. i have to cry myself to sleep everynight bc im hardly ever tired. im not sure im bipolar though, because i dont have those severe '' manic moments? '' when u dont think clear at all.. well when im chocked or sad i turn out beeing pretty violent but i dont stay this way for a long time, only sometimes.
•Insomnia •Nausea •Headaches •Diarrhea However, the most worrisome side effect for quitting Lyrica too quickly is the return of seizures you had before going on the medication or the arrival of new seizures that you've never had before. These seizures can occur even if you weren't taking Lyrica for seizures. Lyrica withdrawal symptoms are generally nothing more than uncomfortable, though if you end up with seizures, it can be very problematic.
hi. I am not a specialist or a doctor of any kind but i am bi -polar, and i have been on Topamax(200mg) for over 2 years now.I take it along with Wellbutrin. I just wanted to tell you my experience with this drug.I have struggled with my weight all of my life . I am now 35, 3 children and when i was diagnosed manic-depressive i was on prozac, wellbutrin and taking hi levels of prescription weight loss pills. I was losing my mind but i wasn't losing any weight!
Hey you guys! just started topamax 10 days ago and am almost to 200mg. a day. I have lost about 5 lbs. And Dr. Peppers burn the heck outta my throat. But i have also been a nervous wreck cause of fam. issues so maybe thats why i can't eat- anywho, i have bad tingling in my feet and i am also wondering if there is a specific diet to follow in order to lose weight on this med. Has helped w/ my migraines, has also made me sleepy. I also take zoloft and yasmin.
What I`m getting at is that you might have too much estrogen in your system or maybe it is a side effect of any medication. And, oh yes, anti-depressants will do that to you too. I hear your despair and you`re too young to beat yourself up about this for the rest of your life. Find a different doctor.
i was talking 70 mgs every night at one time so i can see how its possible, im down to 20mgs now but i also take 60mgs of tamazapam and 20 of geodon with it, that puts me to sleep. I think you should try and taper off, take 1 less every 5 days and you should be ok.
If you want to read my whole story, check out my post under "Real talk about antidepressant weight gain." Befoe going on Effexor, I had gained 20 from other antidpressants (Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa). Since beginning Effexor 1 year ago, I have gained a combined total of 53 pounds. AND YES I EXERCISE AND EAT HEALTHY! At one point I even got a trainer and still couldn't lose weight.
