Geodon mania

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon mania

geodon

Avatar m tn I take Geodon for psychosis and mania. I don't know about the rest but it works great for me. I respond to it really well.
Avatar f tn Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
735919 tn?1236444549 Anti-psychotics tend to be on the more sedative side. Geodon can cause mania in some people so just watch out for that. But like I said, it is usually more sedative.
Avatar f tn I have been on geodon, an antipsychotic, for around ten years. I just went through a temporary taper, I found I was in withdrawal and had massive headache and flu-like symptoms and had to go back up. Subsequently, I did research on this and discovered that if I stopped taking geodon, I most likely would get Dopamine Agonist Withdrawal Syndrome (DAWS) and want to know if I'd be likely to get this were I to stop taking geodon because it wasn't effective in stopping drawn out acute mania.
Avatar m tn does geodon help you with ur bipolar?? ( explain please??
Avatar f tn with no success each time I fly high in happiness then stumble into the bloody mania and each time the mania takes longer to extinguish. True i didn't try st john's wort but read about others' experience and still it brings mania. Of course there are AC's like lamictal which has AD property or abilify an AP with same action activating etc...but i am speaking of an SSRI say because it also kills not only depression but also anxiety and along with OCD. But in vain.
Avatar m tn I'm starting Geodon this week. I've been told it's more sedating than the Risperdal that I was on so I've been advised to take it at night. Anyone have any experiences with Geodon?
Avatar m tn I've been on Geodon for 18 months and Remeron for 6 months. They stabalized my anxiety, but have bad motivation and gave me a flat personality. I successfully weaned off Remeron without any problems. I started to taper Geodon from 60mg to 40mg and got really bad anxiety. Is this my anxiety returning or is this withdrawal? I've had the anxiety for about 5 days now.
968185 tn?1248255581 They decided to try her out on geodon to see what happens, she has gotten so horrible! She is acting selfish and not at all her self, doing things my sister would never do to people. She recently did something pretty bad and the police are looking for her. I believe she will be charged with a felony, She stole over 700 dollars from someone I know she loves and spent it all in a day partying.
794091 tn?1264986339 Will I always Feel foggy. On Seraquel ,Geodon. But, its better than mania. Oh! on Celexa, all new! I'm 43 Or give it more time ! Just been feeling bad so long.
685321 tn?1230951152 ok. i should also add that the geodon made me extremly happy and then very depressed. i've never felt like that in my life. i've never felt euphoria until i went on geodon. and i also was very angry on it. i still had massive panic attacks on it. i swear being on that pill made me bipolar. the docs also say that this "derealization" is a self-hypnotic state. that i've experienced trauma in my life and this is a coping mechanisim.
Avatar f tn Which is worse bipolar one or two. And has anyone taken geodon. If so what side effects did you have.
Avatar f tn Not quite in the same manner. Abilify does have mood stabilization effects. An SSRI generally is of concern for someone with bipolar and can easily worsen mania. Abilify like all antipsychotics can treat it. Abilify and Geodon are activating, that is they will make a person more likely to be awake instead of being sedating. I know when I was on Geodon and Abilify they kept me up practically the whole night but they didn't make me manic.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I think I might be getting manic again. I just switched from risperdal to geodon. I am on the lowest dose of geodon, but I am worried about taking more because it gave me body aches, and I had to start taking cogentin again, and if I take more of the geodon it might increase my chances of getting more yucky side effects. I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, lol.
Avatar m tn I cannot conceive of the Army knowing about his condition - Geodon is used for acute mania treatment and schizophrenia so its not just an MS - its a rather serious drug with some rather nasty side effects. I am baffled as to how your son thinks he is going to get into the army - he will need to pass a full medical and they are going pick it up - god hopes they do because I personally would not want to be within a mile of a psychotic manic soldier with an automatic rifle.
142722 tn?1281533616 He wants to move me up to 40. does this anxiety stop any time soon. i take litmical(sp) to 200mg.
Avatar f tn ADs and BP disorder are always an interesting conundrum. I know that there have been extensive studies regarding a Zyprexa/Prozac combination for BP disorder. Those studies have shown to be effective. If you and your pdoc are thinking about going with Prozac, I would probably look into using it with Zyprexa. The ADs can be hit or miss, especially with BP folks. I know that I (along with many BP friends) have had serious issues with all of the ADs.
1030383 tn?1338460785 I was instructed by my pdoc (dx BP1) to taper down from 40mg Geodon to 20mg for a week then stop (while my Lamictal increased to level out). WELL, I decided on my own that after 3 days of lowering down on Geodon that it was enough and I stopped cold turkey on taking it. I felt like I had the flu for a couple of days and then on Saturday, I had a complete come-apart.
Avatar f tn Speak to your psychiatrist now and see what advice they give you as regards medication changes if needed. Hypomania can sometimes be a warning sign of full blown mania so be careful and inform your psychiatrist.
1255530 tn?1269867619 anyhow any suggestions on what worked for anyone else after having bad side effects. I need something for mania, insomnia panic and anxiety attacks. Side effects of amilify where as follows Hard time breathing, hyperventilating, feeling sick in respiratory, slight swelling of tongue, fast heartbeat, restless, dizzy, speech changes, tremors and shacking, eyes feel like there rolling in back of head, seeing spots when closing eyes for bed, insomnia, Mania returned in two days, agitation.
447130 tn?1225470866 I'm on Lithium 300mg twice a day but my doc cut me down to 1 a day because my ankles and legs are swollen up like an elephant. Has anyone else had this happen, does it go away after you are on it for awhile? I;ve been on it 2 weeks and aside from shaking a lot that's the only side effect. I also take Geodon 120 mg. a day. Don't think it was Geodon because it didn't happen until I started the Lithium. I try to drink a lot of water to flush my system out but it's not helping.
202665 tn?1248806733 I was on Geodon for about 3 years. About six months of overlap with Zyprexa at the beginning - it took forever to get off of Zyprexa - and almost a year of overlap with Seroquel at the end. It was a good drug in general. I remained relatively stable the entire time I was on it, but still experienced significant sleep problems. Eventually tried Seroquel because I had already been on all of the others (I had problems with Abilify, too) and it tends to have more of a sedative effect.
Avatar m tn Risperdal is an antipsychotic though but I think some of them can send a person into mania. I remember reading Geodon could at least when read up on it.
4971738 tn?1390565384 I take a low dose of lithium (600mg) and am doing okay on it. Because it is such a low dose I don't have to get my lithium levels drawn like you do on a higher dose. I have noticed the shakiness. It bothers me at times. My psych says it could be the geodon but I think it's the lithium. I'm weaning off other things like the geodon and lamictal. She wants me to get down to only zoloft and lithium.
733744 tn?1337950650 I think it is pretty normal to hit depression after mania. I think after everything is done or after it shuts off, you crash the other way. It's like jumping out of a plane without realizing your parachute is broken. One minute everything is amazing, the next you hit rock bottom. Don't worry, you're not alone. We all go through the cycles. You can get through it.
Avatar n tn Hes putting me on geodon to try and get me off zyprexa and to see if i get better sleep. I am on 30 mg of zyprexa right now and life has been better, cause at one time i was on 40 mg. With all the medications I am on I still don't sleep that well. We both think I'm over medicated. The doctor says that I need to calm down and relax and wait for them to work and then he will start to slowly reduce my amounts and how much medications i am on. the objective right now is to fisrt stablize me.
Avatar f tn That would probably be an agitated mixed state. A mixed state has aspects of both mania and depression. I've experienced agitated mixed states before my current recovery and certainly when I was off a mood stabilizer (except because I have schizoaffective disorder mine had aspects of psychosis). That is relatively common and some mood stabilizers treat mixed states better than others. Speak to your psychiatrist about that.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist prescribed me Geodon simply because I mentioned I talk alot and that I needed to lose some weight. WELL. I cannot even describe how furious and manic I have gotten out of nowhere. SInce I have been taking this medication, I have turned into a totally different person, like I'm being possessed. My psychiatrist is FANTASTIC let me tell you! I have been off the medication for a few days and I feel worse and worse as the days go by.
Avatar f tn t seem concerned) tapering off of Geodon. I seem to feel dizzy, confused, sedated, have blurred vision, have anxiety attacks, just overall crummy. I think it's the Geodon that I went on a few months ago after Abilify didn't work so well. Is anyone having any issues with taking Geodon? Such as side effects or positive effects. Also, if you have tapered off, how long did the withdrawals (and what were they) from tapering?
