geodon long term effects

m bruising really easily. Does anyone think this could be a long term side effect of Geodon? Has anyone else experienced this?

The side effects are real and they are scary. Bipolar medication is horribly understudied for long term effects (all medications not just bipolar). So the honest answer is they don't know what the long term prognosis is going to be. I take medications and I do so knowing the benefits and risks. I have studied what I take extensively. For me the side effects of bipolar are far worse than the side effects of the medications. For me I regained a life taking meds and I appreciate that life.

I began taking atypical antipsychotics just over a year ago, and stopped just over a month ago. I have been on Risperdal, Abilify, Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Geodon, in that order. Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia).

I have done some research and have found nothing good about this drug. She has all side effects. She is on day 1 with NO geodon.

I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better,but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.

my wife and i are noticing aggressive behavior,and paranoia(along with nhs therapist)she is currently in hospital(acute care)and docs and therapists seem to be ignoring this and are contemplating release after suicidal/homicidal threats,has anyone experienced or heard of such aggression from geodon?i did find side effects on web that confirm this could happen,but seems doctors cant find or have ever heard of this? can anyone shed light please!!!!!

However for others it can be activating. Both side effects can improve with time. When I was on Geodon I had to have an EKG first as they had to test for any heart irregularities before a person could start taking it as that was required at the time. Some people find some of these side effects to be intolerable. Other people do quite well on it but like any medication its essential to give it time to work and to see if the side effects improve.

The atypical antipsychotics (Risperdal through Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris) have a safer side effect profile than the typicals (Thorazine through Haldol) in that they have half the statistical potential of causing tardive dyskinesia (a long term side effect which is a movement disorder of all current antipsychotics except for Clozaril). They also have far more of a mood stabilization effect and have been specifically FDA approved for this purpose.

The only thing Geodon did for me when I withdrew from it was give me violent hallucinations which landed me in the hospital. I was extremely skinny anyway because I'm on Topamax for alcohol abstinence; my dosage was increased; lost a little more which came back when I was put on Seroquel. Anyway, depending on what you were on the Geodon for, ask your doctor about going on Topamax. Weight loss is a side effect.

Which is worse bipolar one or two. And has anyone taken geodon. If so what side effects did you have.

She has no motivation to do normal daily activities (she’s presently on long-term disability) and is starting to get a “shutting down” feeling (not wanting to leave her apartment, etc.). We were wondering if some of these symptoms were from withdrawal of the Geodon or side effects of the new medication, Clozaril? I’ve also read online in some chat rooms of people having awful withdrawal symptoms getting off Geodon.

My doctor suggested switching to the new med Saphris but I researched it and found that it has the same type of side effects and negative long term effects as Geodon. I know that most anti-psychotics, which I only take for Bipolar II are alike. Don't want to take any but want help with my ultra-rapid mood cycling. Not against meds but am well aware of the irresponsibility and unindividualized treatment that can occur. Any suggestions?

I was brutalized and raped and pronounced dead ten years ago. I have been on long term hospitalization since, and high dosage of meds. I had severe post traumatic stress disorder and now am off of my meds bc of a very bad psychiatrist . So that I do not require hospitalization again, what meds should I be asking for. Geodon and Trazodone have been given to me. any suggestions.

s dopamine structure and that i will never be happy again or feel as good as before i began the drug use. can anybody tell me what some of the long-term effects maybe and weather i will be able to fully recover. i dont know if these are possible long term effects of the drugs or something else. everyone keeps saying im having anxiety attacks but these feelings come when i am calm and seem very serious. if anyone has any advice on whats going on ,whether drug related or not,, or any advice on good doctors to go to PLEASE let me know immediatly.

BUT, I have to take it or I am in pain. So try not to worry so much about the long term effects when you are trying to survive today. If you are worried about this I would talk to my doctor and let them know what you are experiencing and there may be something they can do differently. Just dont stop any seizure med without a doctors help. Hope you feel better..

I have no symptoms and feel great; I am 54 and wondering if HEP C would kill me or if the treatment could cause long term effects that could ruin my health. The longest living male in my family was my father 86 and had slow progressive dementia the last 10 years.

Tremors, psychosis, (not even psychotic) paranoia, and insomnia. Hell. Long term affects are brain damage and years taken off your life. Facts. I hope you can find one of the decent psychiatrists who will treat you with the individual and compassionate care we all deserve. Good luck. Be persistant.

So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.

i hear good and bad on it..and 99% of the side effects are to sleepy?? can you funcshion on the geodon?? i dont want to hear the facts on this med..or i would look it up myself..wanting personal experience's thanks alot james p.s. how long does it take to feel better??????????????

I tried Seroquel and it gave me high blood pressure and made me feel like I was going to faint all the time. Risperdal did great things for me and worked pretty well but I just went off of it because it shot my prolactin level through the roof. Abilify did absolutely nothing for me. Man this Geodon sux!!! It doesn't work and it is giving me some horrible side effects. I just went to the ER for chest pain, feeling fluttery in my chest and feeling jittery, and left arm pain.
