Geodon for sleep

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon for sleep

geodon

Avatar m tn s still not giving me a proper amount of sleep of which I have taken the past three nights. before i had my episode i could sleep without any problems whatsover. i feel the geodon is blocking my serotonin receptors totally as i've dropped down to 60 milligrams of geodon in hopes of normal sleep patterns to return. can the high dosage of geodon increase the chances of insomnia over time? i can't believe that an episode would cause this problem with insomnia.
675718 tn?1530033033 i can't sleep, i have nightmares and when i do sleep i dream of combat & being in the military again
Avatar f tn im still looking for help for sleep. i just found out geodon is a gainer. i dropped ativan too. oh well i guess its no sleep for this crazy girl.
Avatar f tn my doc gave it to me for bipolar and to help me sleep. I was taking the 60mg and about 5 of them would knock me out. don't be scared of 40mg its like a puppy dog. The best food mix I found out is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for best results.
Avatar f tn I take geodon and have for about a year. I started taking 160mg a day. If I remember right, I had problems then with drowsiness. Now I've been tapered down to 60mg a day. I didn't notice any withdrawal symptoms going down but everyone is different. I've always taken herbal liver support and my liver enzymes have always been spot on. One thing I have definitely noticed while taking geodon is cold shivers and goose bumps. Seriously it's weird.
202665 tn?1248806733 But not knowing your current symptoms, I cannot say. I was on Geodon as a mood stabilizer for 2 1/2 years. For a long time, I was very satisfied with it. I have had a lot pf psychotic symptoms along with the bipolar disorder, and the Geodon really helped keep those at bay. I had few side effects, except once in a while, I did feel kind of like a zombie. It didn't cause any weight gain, which was nice.
794091 tn?1264986339 is it ok to take an extra ambein 4 hours after first. So I can sleep? I'm starting hypomania. If I don't sleep i'll break. Can't get to doc till mon.
Avatar f tn Years ago I was on Zyprexa for one year and gained 60 lbs. I then took Seroquel for several years and my weight stayed stable, but still overweight 60 lbs. I then took Geodon (Zeldox) and within a year I had lost 30 lbs without changing anything in my diet or exercise. For the first 10 months I felt great. I had so much more energy, I felt like I was coming out of a long period of being a zombie. Unfortunately I had to stop Geodon because it started causing anxiety.
Avatar n tn Hello. I am 18 years old and I have had OCD as long as I can remember. In the morning I take 40mg of geodon and in the night I take 80mg. But 2 days ago i couldnt get a refill so i didnt take any. So I was without until this morning. This morning when I woke up, I went to the bathroom. The freakiest withdrawal symptom happened, it felt as if I was mentally retarded, and I didn't know where I was at. Other symptoms are shakiness, heart pounding, insomnia.
Avatar n tn Well I can say for myself that I'd be concerned taking more than one anti-psychotic at a time. That's how I developed severe tardive dyskinesia to begin with which the rate of developing it as my psychopharmocologist stated "with typicals 5% per person per year and atypical antipsychotics 2.5% per person per year". Every antipsychotic you are one are atypical antipsychotics but I would see no reason you should be on more than one.
642393 tn?1227032656 I've taken Abilify for yrs & love it. I have none of the side effects I had on other drugs. Try it!
1354001 tn?1281392593 However it generally is able to start to work more quickly than some other antipsychotics such as Zyprexa and Seroquel which take a long time to build up to a proper blood level (all this I was directly informed and remember from taking it). For some people Geodon can be sedating. However for others it can be activating. Both side effects can improve with time.
Avatar f tn bless you honest i mean how good are you to speak about it ,i cant help you really with the meds, just wanted you too know that i think you are amazing to still be able to talk to us after all that and let you know we are here to try and help.
Avatar m tn I've been on Geodon for 18 months and Remeron for 6 months. They stabalized my anxiety, but have bad motivation and gave me a flat personality. I successfully weaned off Remeron without any problems. I started to taper Geodon from 60mg to 40mg and got really bad anxiety. Is this my anxiety returning or is this withdrawal? I've had the anxiety for about 5 days now.
2010625 tn?1329372056 Last I read Geodon can send a patient into mania if they have the potential for that, even though it can be used to treat mania. The side effects should subside after a few weeks.
Avatar f tn Have to be honest I was only on that for a while because it was activating and kept me up at night. I also had a problem with heart palpatations (I believe everyone has to get an EEG first as I did) so I had to discontinue it and change back to a previous medication with my psychiatrist's superivision. But some people have done well on it so it depends. It is often activating though so if you have that problem you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it in the morning.
192368 tn?1224204130 I have only read that Geodon is great for schizophrenia, and those other symptoms. Will it work for me and bring me out of this blue funk Ive been in for months? Im really concerned. Any input is great! thanks!
Avatar f tn i took it last nite and i woke up this morning light headed the i took the pill i was surpose to this morning and it made me feel worst like i was about to faint so i went to sleep and i slept for 6 hours and 30 minutes and im still sleepy so i mite have to go back to abilify...is there any other medications i can take that dont make u gain weight???
Avatar f tn he was briefly put on meds for a few months the 1st time and this last time he was put on Geodon. Im confused, the psychiatrist that put him on the meds org said that he would probably need to take them for a year or 2...He went back to work and had to have a physical and that doctor said that people usually dont stay on geodon to long...but his after discharge psychiatrist made it sound like he was going to be on geodon forever..he has never had depression either..
585414 tn?1288941302 re doing that works best. For me I just tried to sleep two hours after I took the Geodon which is when it normally kicked in. Abilify doesn't sedate me anywhere near as much as Geodon did before it became activating but it still makes me tired enough to sleep 3/4ths of the day. Not having a job I just try to sleep in a schedule that works best for me.
735919 tn?1236444549 thank you for the info on Lamictal, but does anyone take Geodon? I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better, but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.
Avatar n tn I was in a psych unit for 12 days for no reason. I was only taking this high dosage for only twelve days until I started detoxing myself before I saw the therapist who told me I did not fit the symptoms of Psychosis. My question to you is since this medication has only been in my system for only 12 days will my insomnia go away? The heart palpitations have already minimized and the Hallucinations are gone but I still get body movements and am going on my second day of no sleep.
Avatar m tn t come in the dissolve form but can be used as needed as is very good for some people with agitation and things like that. I use it for when everything gets to much and it makes me sleep it off.
Avatar f tn I tried Geodon for about 3mths, and I couldnt take it. I couldnt sleep, eat, the whole experience for me on this medication was plain ol BAD. I am now on Abilify. It has only been a month now, so we will see how it goes. I would suggest that with any medication, if you cannot live your life because of side effects, then get off it, consult your dr and try something else. There is no point feeling bad when the medication is meant to make you feel good. Let us know how it goes.
Avatar f tn Now that you are done weaning yourself off of geodon.
Avatar m tn Her doctor had her taking Geodon to help her sleep along with Zoloft for depression. She started to gain weight and became even more reclusive so we found a specialist out of town to check her Thyroid. She was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism and told to get off the Geodon because it causes weight gain and possibly Diabeties (he was pretty upset that she was taking Geodon and believes she's been mis-diagnosed). Sure enough, she's pre-diabetic and now also taking Byetta and Metformin.
1610967 tn?1314811101 I took Geodon at one point in time for the psychotic symptoms associated with the diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. It worked pretty decently in some ways where other medications don't work so great but then the other medications work better in the ways it doesn't work so great.
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
